So wait, this has moved beyond mere bullshit, and has gone into credible rumor?
Whoddthunk it?

I'm not all that hopped up on Notch (nor do I begrudge him), but Tim Schafer is a personal gaming hero of mine, and a model scenario writer. Anything that can get him back to work is a boon for gaming.

Looks like he's "Kicking It Up A Notch," again.

But seriously, if video games had a saint, it would be Notch.

I guess this means my unofficial Twitter agreement with Tim to fund P2 if I ever get fabulously wealthy is unnecessary. Maybe I can help out on P3...

I love the sound of this! Not because there could be a sequel to what I'm told is a fantastic game (it's on my backlog of games), but because of the potential this partnership holds.

If Notch and Schafer go through with this deal, and they can make a successful and entertaining game, this opens a door to a whole new world of opportunities for designers and independent publishers to work together and produce some truly stellar and innovative games!

That, and we could get a kick-ass game out of this as well! Man I hope this works out!

Why?
You might want to add some content to your post so you don't get reported and banned by the mods. :p
You do realize you're talking to a contributor for the site, right? :3
Yeah that's the joke dude. But then again what is the point of rules if they don't apply to everyone?

Oh god yes.

I didn't get a chance to experience the original Psychonauts, so I'm sure not going to miss out on this game if it comes out.

Please, let no publisher come along and screw it over by trying to adapt it to a new and more profitable market. It's been shown that some games that you try to either market or outright play out as things they aren't (Brutal Legend) will barely scratch the market if you try to do them as such.

I can't really see this selling much better then the last one. I do kinda want to see this happen but I feel notch will get in the way of Schafer's vision. Now that I think about it I don't want to see this to happen.

Notch is already somewhat of my hero just for making an amazing game out of a failed game... but now he should be everyone's hero.

I'm still undecided on how I feel about Notch. Was a long-time supporter of Minecraft but his personal behavior is often quite questionable. Still, if he's going to throw his money away at something, this is much greater cause than just personal embellishments.

Hahah, definitely. Getting your dream videogame made sounds a lot more awesome than buying some expensive car. If I could afford to buy the rights to Xenogears, give them to the original developers, and then ask them to build a remake of it, I totally would.
Too right. For me, I would pay to have Swinging Ape Studios revived and the Metal Arms IP given back to them. I need more Glitch in my system.

Never played the game nor saw any reason to, the whole premise simply did not click with me. Until Team Fortress 2 was explained to me I never saw the appeal. If someone is willing to open up my eyes as to what the general consensus of what makes the game good outside of a couple of sentences worshiping the game's awesomeness then who knows? Maybe I might pick it up some time.

We'll see. I really enjoyed Psychonauts but it all comes down to the story they throw Rasputin into.

This has nothing to do with the topic, but I feel it necessary to point it out: I know that news isn't always lightning fast at the Escapist, despite how much they try, but I love how the users are ahead by just a little bit. XD

What I'm talking about.

Anyway...

Some people wonder why I like Notch so much. This is why. :D
The community is almost always going to be faster than the news team because you're dealing with thousands of people in varying time zones trawling the web for gaming info, versus our small handful of newsies. The numbers are in the community's favor on that score. So, yes, odds are that the news will show up in the forum first. Some people choose to use that advantage to tip off the news guys and point them towards something the community should know about. And some decide to just be smug or rude.
Forum posters aren't bound by journalistic integrity... which adds to the time disparity I'd imagine ;)
There's that, too. :)
Forum posters don't have to constantly remind themselves that X company is an it not a they.

Dammit, Notch! You act like a douche, and then make it impossible for me to demonize you by donating to charity and financing the sequel to the second-greatest game of all time!

Why can't you just go back to saying you're going to focus on a shitty 2D port of the one game you've published? Why do you have to do awesome things?

They already made System Shock 3. It's called Bioshock.

If they do this, they should do it the exact same way Minecraft was released:

i.e., selling "beta" versions before it is complete, in order to finance the development. Worked well once, I can imagine it would work again.
I'd imagine that works a lot less well for a game that depends more heavily on a story rather than being a toybox. Worth a try though.
