This isnt the first south park game, and looking back on the past ones, and games of shows like it (the simpsons/family guy), I dont see this being any good and only selling because of brand name. I just dont think you can make a game based on a show where there's no real over arching plot and very little actual continuity/change thats visible
Actually, South Park was made to be an RPG. Just think of the side quests! There could be one main story (like in the movie), but there could be so many awesome side quests, which will all be creative since the game has 15 years worth of show to work with. Also, when did continuity really matter for games? If it's an original game (not a sequel) then it means they can do anything with it.
I just dont think there's a good precedent for it. I could be wrong, and eh if I am, but i wont be getting it, and its just my opinion this wont work. All I see for thsi game until details coem out is that its just going to be some fabricated plot (not based on the movie) to make the excuse that its not just a collection of minigames/sidequests while they rehash old episodes that were funny to watch at one point but will just seem nauseating now.

...

then again, i was never the biggest south park fan.

Sorry... But no. I know a crash grab when I see it Obsidian, you should be ashamed.

EDIT:
For people saying "If done by Matt and Trey it should at least be funny," considering how lackluster the latest seasons of South Park have been (the aspergers episode in particular made me want to drown kittens) this really could go either way.

Hmmm... Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Obsidian... It'll either be really good or really bad, there will be no middle ground in this endeavor.

A South Park RPG? Part of me is interested in how it will play out as i like the series. Part of me thinks it's going to be disasterous. If it's Obsidian, maybe it'll be at least rent worthy.

I played that South Park game on N64, where you could piss on snowballs to do more damage. That was fun. This one could be alright. I think it's really good to try and put the RPG genre where it hasn't gone before. I mean, ok, it can suck that they have to do it within a set universe since they can't be totally free to make cool stuff up, but at the same time, it will be interesting.

I love Obsidians writers team, but I absolutely hate Southpark.
Damn you obsidian. Now I'm torn.

so this is what it feels like to be confused and excited at the same time?

Ill honestly try to remain neutral since its being written by the original creators, funny dudes, and made by obsidian who made MY favourite RPG KOTOR 2...

... kinda torn here

There is no possible way this will work out. It just does not fit together.
It's gonna be a shitty cash-grab. And we all know it.
On the other hand; Parker and Stone are actually writing for the game, and we know that Obsidian, whilst being severely limited by publishers and a crappy QA team, can make really good RPG's.

But no matter how well the names are, I can still barely wrap my head around this. What in heaven's name will the gameplay be like? It's just...I can't...

It's going to be freaking hilarious, we know this, but I'm just worried that that's the only thing it's going to have.

I would agree with this, if it wasn't for the fact that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are writing the script, and doing the voice acting and all the stuff...

If anything, im sure the story will be good with them writing it, and maybe we will get a few musical numbers.
Finally a musical MMO!

*sigh. I mean, my complete indifference toward South Park aside, do we really expect anything different than all the other cartoon based games? At least it's Obsidian. That's reassuringish.
Well as far as I know, there was a Ducktales game on the NES that was glorified.

OT: While South Park's later episodes haven't been too funny in my eyes, there are moments in South Park that are timeless to me. Episodes such as "The Biggest Douche in the Universe," and "About Last Night" rank as my top favorites.

My thoughts on the RPG? It's...odd and unexpected. I don't know what to expect, but I have hope for it.

Guys, guys, this could turn out to be a Producers-esque scenario. This game could be Obsidian's Springtime for Hitler.

Is it just me or has obsidian entertainment actually never come up with an idea of their own?

Knights of the Old Republic 2
Neverwinter Nights 2
Fallout: New Vegas (That's the 5th game, by the way)
and now south park?
Alpha Protocol also before they became Obsidian they made Fallout 1 and 2. OP As much as i love Obsidian i have mixed feelings about this.
