I wouldn't have minded if they hadn't marketed Catwoman as being playable as hard as they did. There's a difference between 'CATWOMAN IS PLAYABLE!!1' and 'Catwoman has a couple of DLC missions'.

*riot-filled applause*

This is the kind of thing I'm just going to have to enjoy from now on.

so for those playing the home game, last we saw this kind of thing was in rage. which if I'm not mistaken had glaringly bad screen tears on its PC ports, lol.

now in a slightly more story-centric affair an apparently hyped playable character is getting the same treatment. oh my apologies if your an hour out from where I am and you can't redeem your content due to crappy or noneistent internet (YES this is true, it was a BIG part of my Diablo III rage, check my post history if you actually read this and care)

...you know, I get past launch DLC, a month or two or three down the line. I've never bought it, but I get it. they wanted to add more to the game that they couldn't quite get done.

but its when they do this kind of thing that it just makes me laugh now. lets call this a Fixer Pack for now.

TL:DRing this pointless post of mine:

A. Get the popcorn and count the games that will do this.
B. laugh because of the integrity of the people to do this to a base especially in this time of ecnomic trouble is baffling.
C. go buy something else- my picks indie games.

So. In order to get all of the launch-day content from Batman: Arkham City, you'll have to...

-buy an online pass or buy new to play as Catwoman
-buy Green Lantern on DVD for the yellow lantern costume (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/112578-Warner-Bros-Offers-Arkham-City-Costume-as-Green-Lantern-Blu-Ray-Bonus)
-sign up for a PowerUp card with GameStop (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/113158-GameStop-Makes-Arkham-City-Animated-Skin-PowerUp-Exclusive)
-preorder from Gamestop to get the Batman: TAS skin for Batman
-preorder from Best Buy to get Robin (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/111485-Robins-Arkham-City-Look-Inspired-By-Cage-Fighters)
-order a collectors edition to get the Batman: Dark Knight Returns skin

I know the Catwoman and Robin things are really just extra content, but doesn't anyone else remember back when extra content was actually extra, rather than a la carte?

Ah screw this game. I bought the last one cheap and thought it was about a 7 out of 10 so I had moderate interest. WE CAN NOT LET THIS BE THE STANDARD. So screw you Rocksteady ill buy the new spiderman game instead(And the last one which kind of got crushed under the eight thousand other games I wanted when it came out.)

It comes down to one thing, regardless of argument: publishers have zero proof that used games cost them any money. None. Nada. It is all conjecture, and a fair amount of hubris. Again, publishers have zero proof used games cost them money, they are not even actively trying to prove it.

I can, however, prove that Gamestop alone buys $1 billion worth of murchandise from gamers a year, and according the their president, more than 75% of that is used on new product in the same visit, and more than 95% is used in the same visit on everything in general. In simple terms, Gamestop, the evil empire of games retail, adds $1billion to gamer's pockets anually, the vast majority of which is spent on new product before walking out of the store. Numbers.

Publishers cannot prove that used games cost the industry money, they don't want to try. I've said it before, when your weapon of choice is conjecture, you have to keep your image squeaky clean. If big publishers could prove anything, they would have. They know that the second they put the effort into doing just that, they lay waste to the image they've been perpetuating, as the actual numbers would be incapable of perpetuating it for them.
This isn't me on Dtoid yet I been trying to tell people this for 2 years. Gamestop buys more stuff from the developers, publishers and in the end if it doesn't sell it just thrown away. I had friends raid local gamestop trash bins to find so much brand new shit just thrown out. People ***** like Gamestop magically get new games. Publishers and developers get a kickback of the sell. It doesn't work that way. Gamestop has to buy the games, guides and whatnot. The "starving" publishers and developers already get quite a lot of money. Shit only gets bad when a publisher is unhappy with the sells and they basically murder a development team.

Here's the thing, I have a game on order for my 360 at gamestop

1. 25 digit code for catwoman
2. 25 digit code for joker challenge map
3. need to go on my power up reward site, to get another 25 digit code for animated series batman.
4. another code for the free movie thing also coming with it.

even not caring about the movie, it'll be about an half hour of friggen hassle to get all the content I SPENT 60 DOLLARS ON!

Why call it an online pass? why not just call it day one DLC and get it over with.
Why does this strike me as another example of Escapists not actually reading the article they're commenting on? I mean first with RAGE and the massive crying about how it would take out the entire single player if you did not buy it new which was hilarious because if they read the article it would say it only locks out a certain part of the single player which you could buy as DLC. This is a way for developers to have an advantage of buying new over used so they can actually get more money from sales of their game and still profit from used sales, it's a relatively new trend but right now it's really common and not a big deal and if anything should be praised.

...Look at what game I'm not getting!

What a shame, it look promising. If I do get this, I definably will get this used and NOT buy the online pass.

When I first heard this, I thought someone was trolling. They actually went and fucking did it.

Jesus, this is stupid. This is only going to piss off everyone, by locking out content heavily marketed previously as a standard part of the game. It's a step beyond Day 1 DLC, it's a slap in the face to their customers. And I was really looking forward to this one.

Here's the kicker: I'm playing on PC, so it doesn't even affect me anyway, but I feel really uneasy about supporting this kind of shit.

The problem with Online Passes in single player games is obvious. NOT EVERYONE IS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET. Older 360s require people to own a separately purchased adapter just to connect to the internet via wi-fi.

At least with multiplayer online passes, people who need it can redeem it.
Thank you for pointing this out. I have never been connected cause I don't play multiplayer. I just don't have time to do that, and complete single-player features, so I buy games that I know will have solid single-player. I have an older 360, and my PC (also older) is at the other end of the house from the console. I do have wi-fi but of course require an adaptor which means $$$ for something I essentially don't want. So WTF gives Warner Bros?! I had this game pre-ordered. Cat woman is on disc, ready to play, but I can't access 10% of content? My choice is invalid? Yes, I see. Fuck you too. <storms off to cancel pre-order>

How major a feature is Catwoman going to be in the game? Because if she turns out to be a significant part of the game I am going to be pissed.
The Catwoman content is 10% of content according to Rocksteady.

Because if you buy it on Day One, you get it for free. It comes with the new game, just not with the used copy. What's wrong with a new product being worth more than a used product?

I was under the impression--and hoping--that she was a core part of the game, and that her gameplay bits were important to the story. I'm still intending to get the game(when the price drops), but I'm a bit bummed that it seems like she was just tacked on to "combat" used sales and rentals.

Good, second-hand buyers that ***** need to get it in their heads that developers like to make a goddamn profit on the games they put time and money into, and if doing shit like this is the only way to damn well ensure they do, then so be it.

Stuff like this doesn't effect me either way, seeing as how I always buy my games new, because I actually like to, y'know, support dev teams that I like, as opposed to being a leech that takes from them without giving back.

Thank you. Even though I currently have access to the internet, I recently spent a year where I had no access to it. I would hate to have a game where I can't access all of it even if I buy it new.

I understand MP online pass as the MP portions require MP, but what are the people who can't download it going to do about it?

Also, I have two 360s. Now it means that I have to choose my gaming time carefully if I want to play as her as only one 360 currently has access to the internet.

Not a problem for me. People who have been looking forward to this game are going to get it on day one, brand new--or, at least I am. Free stuff. I don't understand why everyone gets so upset, but then I buy all the games I want first hand. I don't trust second hand copies, and if it's a game I really want, I don't enjoy waiting for it to drop a few bucks at Game Stop.
