This isn't me on Dtoid yet I been trying to tell people this for 2 years. Gamestop buys more stuff from the developers, publishers and in the end if it doesn't sell it just thrown away. I had friends raid local gamestop trash bins to find so much brand new shit just thrown out. People ***** like Gamestop magically get new games. Publishers and developers get a kickback of the sell. It doesn't work that way. Gamestop has to buy the games, guides and whatnot. The "starving" publishers and developers already get quite a lot of money. Shit only gets bad when a publisher is unhappy with the sells and they basically murder a development team.CM156 said:Allow me to quote a man over at Destructoid

It comes down to one thing, regardless of argument: publishers have zero proof that used games cost them any money. None. Nada. It is all conjecture, and a fair amount of hubris. Again, publishers have zero proof used games cost them money, they are not even actively trying to prove it.
I can, however, prove that Gamestop alone buys $1 billion worth of murchandise from gamers a year, and according the their president, more than 75% of that is used on new product in the same visit, and more than 95% is used in the same visit on everything in general. In simple terms, Gamestop, the evil empire of games retail, adds $1billion to gamer's pockets anually, the vast majority of which is spent on new product before walking out of the store. Numbers.
Publishers cannot prove that used games cost the industry money, they don't want to try. I've said it before, when your weapon of choice is conjecture, you have to keep your image squeaky clean. If big publishers could prove anything, they would have. They know that the second they put the effort into doing just that, they lay waste to the image they've been perpetuating, as the actual numbers would be incapable of perpetuating it for them.
Why does this strike me as another example of Escapists not actually reading the article they're commenting on? I mean first with RAGE and the massive crying about how it would take out the entire single player if you did not buy it new which was hilarious because if they read the article it would say it only locks out a certain part of the single player which you could buy as DLC. This is a way for developers to have an advantage of buying new over used so they can actually get more money from sales of their game and still profit from used sales, it's a relatively new trend but right now it's really common and not a big deal and if anything should be praised.JPArbiter said:Why call it an online pass? why not just call it day one DLC and get it over with.
Thank you for pointing this out. I have never been connected cause I don't play multiplayer. I just don't have time to do that, and complete single-player features, so I buy games that I know will have solid single-player. I have an older 360, and my PC (also older) is at the other end of the house from the console. I do have wi-fi but of course require an adaptor which means $$$ for something I essentially don't want. So WTF gives Warner Bros?! I had this game pre-ordered. Cat woman is on disc, ready to play, but I can't access 10% of content? My choice is invalid? Yes, I see. Fuck you too. <storms off to cancel pre-order>Onyx Oblivion said:The problem with Online Passes in single player games is obvious. NOT EVERYONE IS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET. Older 360s require people to own a separately purchased adapter just to connect to the internet via wi-fi.
At least with multiplayer online passes, people who need it can redeem it.
The Catwoman content is 10% of content according to Rocksteady.the spud said:How major a feature is Catwoman going to be in the game? Because if she turns out to be a significant part of the game I am going to be pissed.
Because if you buy it on Day One, you get it for free. It comes with the new game, just not with the used copy. What's wrong with a new product being worth more than a used product?JPArbiter said:Why call it an online pass? why not just call it day one DLC and get it over with.
Thank you. Even though I currently have access to the internet, I recently spent a year where I had no access to it. I would hate to have a game where I can't access all of it even if I buy it new.Onyx Oblivion said:The problem with Online Passes in single player games is obvious.
