To make claims like this, you assume that atheists are naturally more moral and innocent people. More blood has been shed in the name of land and progress and "societal perfection" than all the world's religions have ever slain. Even most of the Crusades were actually battles over land that had a religious flavor to encourage the troops.
Yeah, like 9/10 times throughout history religion in politics is really used as a tool/excuse/a front to unite people, further the leader(s)'(s) own goals, etc.

edit: sorry double post

I have no problem with this, but what if one thinks that a certain gender is full of immature idiots?

Everyone should be able to be whatever sexuality and gender they want. I will fight to protect these rights for others, and I know that many would do the same for me! What dose annoy me however is this concept of "gay pride" where has that come from? Can anyone tell me?

Why are you proud of being gay? It's not like you had to take a test! I can understand being happy to gay, but not being proud to be.... it's not like straight people are proud to be straight. I'm bi personally and I feel no more pride in that than I do in the fact that I have brown hair... it's just how I was born, why would I be proud of it? If anyone could explain this to me I would be grateful, because currently I can understand being proud to be "out" but not begin proud to be gay.

People are free to have and practice whatever sexual orientation they feel fits best but at the same time I do disagree with the blatant overt display and expression of one's sexuality (case in point, Gay Pride parades).

If you're gay, great, that's your choice and if you're happy with it then that's all well and good but if you start thrusting it into others faces and then start getting offended when some people either don't care or don't want to know then you only have yourselves to blame (that is until I get my straight pride parade, equality means equal treatment for everyone, not just benefits and special rules those with the greatest list of past tragedies behind them).

In other words, do as you please but keep it to yourself.

I view those who are against homo and bisexuality with as must contempt as I view racists. There is no reason to be against it other then being prejudice. It's not a choice, it's genetics! Would you discrimiante against someone of a different race? Someone with a different hair colour? Eye colour? What about someone who is a different height or build? It is no different.

Heterosexual: No prejudiced. Would be kinda stupid if I did.
Homosexual: I am one, It's annoying to get confused with "Rapists" or "Pedophiles".
Seriously It's not that "I love men" as in all of them, its that I'm predisposed towards wanting to find a man to share my life with.
Bisexual: I'm so damn glad they exist, its interesting that bisexuality never gets brought up in the churches homophobic arguments...
Pansexual: Enviable not to view gender as part of your interest in lovers
Asexual: You can still be hetro/homo/biromantic without needing to have sex.

Similar LGBT Topics:
Polyamorous: It makes perfect sense that people CAN fall in love with more than one person
Polygamy: It makes similar sense that 3 or more polyamorous people can want to spend their lives together.
For BOTH of these - Love, sex and marriage are ALL VERY separate things. Sluttishness and inbreeding/polygamist cults are seperate to Polyamory just as rape is separate to gayness.

Transgender: I can't imagine the suffering that comes from being inside a body you don't consider your own.
Transexual: HUZZAH for science and surgery moving forwards enough for this even to be possible
Agenderal/ Gender Neutral: I like that people don't have so subconsciously conform to genders and the stereotypes within that.
Genderqueer: Not actually sure what this one even means

What's everyone's opinion on Asexuality? 'Cause I'm feeling a bit left out of the opening post.
Asexual people have no deal. They're cool in my book.
I dunno, I've gotten lots of "Your joking, right?", "That's not normal" And my personal favorite "Oh are you studying to be a priest?"
I always wondered (and I mean no offence in any way shape or form, it's just that I have never met one of you)wheter you truly feel no attraction to other humans in a physical manner, or just choose to ignore it. Could you clear that up?
Jesus, do you really get that priest comment?
Solidarity dude.

I get what you are saying but I just CAN'T see myself with a woman.
Your philosophy would be perfect if LGBT was something you chose rather than just were.
Unfortunately you just are - and I'll have to adopt someday. I've accepted that.

It really doesn't bother me in the slightest if someone is homosexual, bisexual, or straight. I notice a lot of people say they don't have problems with gay people unless they hit on them. If I ever got hit on by a gay guy I would feel flattered. Hell, I wouldn't mind being bisexual myself as it doubles your odds of finding a suitable mate.
No, it really doesn't ;)

Also... oh look, this thread again XD Not sure why I always click on this thread when I have seen it here like, a billion times, and the results are always the same. Hundreds of posts saying "I don't mind at all" or" as long as it doesn't affect me" or some equivalent, about fifty posts saying that they are actually for it, a few obvious trolls who say they are against it just to go against the tide, and a smattering of intellectual opinion pieces that still don't manage to say anything new. No offense to the OP, but this has been done and redone on the escapist many many times before.

I'm in favor of it. After all, without it, we would stop reproducing

Really, though, my rather libertarian view is "I don't give a damn either way. Want to date a member of the same sex? Go right ahead. Have fun. I just don't need/want the details. Don't demand that I like it/endorse it and we sould have no problems"

That last bit applies to EVERYONE. Demand I like/endorse what you do, and I generally won't. Which I'm not saying all GLBT people do, by the way.

Then again, I am also the kind of person who would be shouting at a tree to "Get off MAH lawn!" Make of that what you will.

[sub]I reserve my hate for groups that have earned it. Like kittens. Damn them![/sub]
What did Kittens ever do to you? Their kittens.

*Remembers the topic* O_O Oh..... You poor thing. Here. Take this doll, and show us where they touched you.

(Sorry about the joke to anyone who has been...you know.)

People should be free to choose whatever they want, and I'm not going to stop them.

However, Pansexuals and Bisexuals piss me off. I've got no malice towards them, and I don't want to start an argument- but they just do. It feels very wrong to me to be indiscriminately attracted to someone/something- I think everyone should have set prerequisites for everyone.

Again, do as you wish- me being pissed off is irrelevant.

EDIT: Also, the scale of the intellectual hegemony here is astounding.

It's essentially a few thousand posts of "LOVE EVERYONE REGARDLESS" and "IT'S THEIR CHOICE" with the occasional "RELIGIOUS PEOPLE ARE STUPID".

Coming to think of it, that IS an accurate description of the entirety of the readership of The Escapist.
