I'm sorry but if a child plays a violent game and is in any way affected by it, it not the games fault, it the parents for either letting them play it or not taking the time to check what the child is doing.

While these people are frothing in their mouth about the Supreme Court's decision, their kids are online and teaching me every single synonym to the word '******' over a MP FPS.

Oh noes, I have to pay attention to my child, woe is me.

Don't have them if you can't take the time to care for them properly.

Lazy ass parents will be lazy asses. They're mad because they will have to actually do some parenting instead of letting the government do the work for them.

I swear, there should be a parental aptitude test for people like these.

So Parents television council is upset because now parents can't fall back onto other people doing there job for them? Only bad thing I could think of is some parents might end up being more lazy by giving there kids money to go and buy a game in ninety degree summer heat while they stay waiting in a nice air conditioned car.

They say this, all I hear is: "We can't be expected to be responsible for our own children, that's madness!"

Seriously Parents Telivision Council... get the fuck over it. Learn what this decision actually means, then raise legitimate complaints. Throwing out the "now they can sell porn games to pre-schoolers without fear of reprimand!" argument only works to get attention so many times before people just flat out stop listening to you and mentally replace your voice with the Nyancat song whenever you speak.

Just... stop. Shut up, get educated, then fuck off.

To Idiot Television Council

1: Games have a rating system (much like movies or music) to aid in preventing the more "harmful" material from being sold to children.
2: it is the responsibility of parents to know this rating system and monitor what their kids buy, rent, play, etc.
3: You are idiots.
4: Games are an emerging form of art. While it is still in the early stages of becoming true art, it is something you'll just have to accept.
5: I've seen more violence, swearing, sex, and so forth in schools than in most of the games I play.
6: Better parenting solves pretty much any problem you may have with the whole "Games are the devil" thing. It's also much easier to be better parents yourselves than for EVERYONE ELSE to have to conform to what you think everyone else should do.
7: You are idiots.

I rest my case.

It's simple, isn't it? If you don't want to watch your children (or don't have the time, whatever), you shouldn't have them in the first. Sorry, but additional regulation isn't necessary, just because some idiots are shitty parents.

Hell if anything, the rating system is too stringent. What's with the AO rating? Boobs? Dreadful, and your average 17 year old has clearly never seen them, and never ventured into the dark recesses of debauchery that comprise 80-ish% of the internet. No need to be prudes and exclude nudity and sexuality as well, just saying. But that's for another time/thread...

Wait...let me read that again...

Greg Tito said:
"This ruling replaces the authority of parents with the economic interests of the videogame industry. With no fear of any consequence for violating the videogame industry's own age restriction guidelines, retailers can now openly, brazenly sell games with unspeakable violence and adult content even to the youngest of children," Winter said.
Are you serious? THEN WATCH WHAT YOUR DAMN KIDS ARE PLAYING IF YOU ARE SO BLOODY CONCERNED ABOUT IT!!

Economic interests? Are you kidding me? This has nothing to do with economic interests and where the hell did he get that idea? It makes no sense and goes beyond reasoning. I don't understand!

Christ on a hot tin roof, these people are so concerned about what they THINK is ok for kids that they don't understand that they are indirectly going against the very people they are 'trying to protect'. What ever happened to parents taking responsibility for their damn kids?

This is the part that trips me up. It would seem that this ruling actually FAVORS the authority of the parent because it gives the parent/guardian the authority to decide what the child sees and plays, not the government. The statement is completely contradictory to the ruling.

Haha, they want the state to take care of their kids. What jokes they are as parents. No self respecting parent would expect that. I'm all about a community raising a child, but the interests of a group like is is not community oriented in any way. They simply wish to tell people how to live their lives.

The ruling in no way replaces the parents rights to punish their kids, or to administer values as they see fit. I have never been to a video game or department store that will sell an M Rated titled to a minor. A responsible business does not.

Did they say Parents Council? Because it sounds like their infants are running the show. All I hear is crying after all. Maybe those parents should just be more careful of what games they buy for those infants once they grow a little instead of just buying whatever the kid asks for. They could also take some time out of their busy "protect the children by making life shitty for adults" schedule to learn how to use the parental controls on whatever game consoles are in their households just in case they happen to suck at supervising their kids and the kids manage to find a way to buy M rated games on their own.

Isn't this the same group that will flood the FCC with form letters complaining about a television show when most of the members flooding the FCC never even saw the "offending" content? If you guys haven't read about their letter writing campaigns, you really should. It is amazing just how much they want to control yet have no clue about the content that they want to control.

I view this group much like I do PETA. It is a group with a name that sounds well meaning. However, the people behind the group wants to control what you think, say, and do. Much like PETA does with animals; the PTC wants to control what they consider isn't family friendly and leave you with no choice in the matter, freedom of speech be damned.
