The time limit in Persona 4. I know its part of the story but it isn't really clear when the time limit ends you just kinda find out later and by that time its too late and if you havent leveled enough you have to go back to an earlier point of the game and grind like crazy or just restart the whole game. But apart from that Persona 4 is awesome.

Games. We love 'em. Even in the festering pit of jaded hatred that is this forum (and no offence meant, this is my favourite forum on the citadel/ the internet), we all have games that we love. Whether or not we sit upon a mountain of beloved games or keep a firm allegiance with only one, we all have games that are near and dear to our hearts.

But it's highly unlikely that we love every last thing about it, so, Escapists, combining bile AND love into one happy thread, I ask you, what is your most hated part of your most favouritest game? Leave more than one example if you wish!

Example #1: Mass Effect. No, it's not the Mako, I actually don't mind that little bastard (though the whiplash must be immense), for me, it's planet Feros. The visuals are dull and uninteresting, browns and dusty greys, the music is dreary, the characters have no personality beyond "we don't want to leave this colony despite the suicidal dangers of staying here" and the last boss of it goes on for way, way too long.

Example #2: Abe's Exoddus - Nekrum Mines. Probably due to the fact that I didn't have a memory card as a kid, I've just played that part way too much compared to the rest of the game.
Hmm, I was going to use ME as well, interesting, I actually thought of it as probably my favourite planet ergh, don't get me started on Noveria...

My gripe with ME1 was, the intro mission. Unskippable should have a thing on that (don't watch, hence don't know), that takes for-ev-e-rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and a day, THEN the mission isn't even very good, very xbox-ish somehow, the first two or three times I got lost at the very start, and this part takes way too long, and it does get good once there are a heap of geth to kill (past Nihlus), but overall, very bad start to an incredible game. Best RPG ever imo, and many others as well.

Mass effect 2, i'm willing to ignore many of your faults, but please no more paragon/renegade, its a bit shit to be honest. Why do you persist on using that feature when dragon ages system allowed for more actual moral decisions without plastering everything as good and evil, nothing is that Black and White no stop it.

Oh and Mirrors Edge, why did you stop trying after the third mission, seriously brilliant first person platforming over rooftops while being chased by swat teams and helicopters followed by boring corridor sections, someone please fire the person who decided to set a level in a boat. Linear corridors boring, sprawling rooftops amazing. Remember that next time.

Lots more i could add but

I LOVE Sly Cooper 2, however, the Canada maps, while at least interesting, are obnoxious. You have bears you can't kill, underground enemies, and it's not as sprawling and fun to run around as the cities are. Though I find it's made up by the missions being fun ^^

Any levels you can't sneak around on rooftops isn't as fun as levels you can sneak around on rootftops

pokemon black and white: what they took out from the last few games. ribbons they were pointless but without them now there's no point to the pokemon musical besides getting a trainer card upgrade if you get all the props. also the inability to rebattle random trainers and few other things i can't think of right now

disgaea ds:why did they have to make the level cap so high? the strongest boss is level 6000 and you can go to level 9999 after you get strong enough that you can beat prinny Baal what's the point in playing after that?

Best thing to say is involving Cass, Silver Rush and Crimson caravans. I did all the CC quests, got Cass, did her quest then got involved with SR. Got to their final quest and it involved killing Cass or protecting her. The problem is that I did Cass's quest peacefully so she didn't kill anyone, back to the SR quest though. If I let them kill Cass I loose a favorite character and don't get the proper ending but if I let her live then she tells me off for killing them and I once again loose the required ending. Sorry if it isn't to imformative but its the one that comes to mind.
That's kinda one of the main points of the game, it forces you to make tough decisions and live with the consequences. Why else would there be four, completely different paths to choose in the main quest?
Ninja'd on this one.

Exactly, that's the whole point. The guys from Silver Rush want Cass dead, you don't. That's not a contradiction, that's a choice: You either keep Cass or you get some money (and a discount, I think).

As for a moment I hated in an otherwise great game, I'd have to go with the entire 3rd act of KoTOR II. It gets a little better with the Restored Content Mod, though.

Red Alert 2:
There weren't enough missions.
I could play that game forever if there were enough missions :)

Those demonic walls in Okami.

You have to headbutt them to reveal their weak points, but you only have a few seconds to memorize them before you can use the Celestial Brush and mark them. This isn't so much of a problem if there's only 5 weak spots, but some walls have like 12 of them.

I fucking hate those things.
Are you kidding me? There are only four of them in the entire game and only one of them is required to get to the very end. Besides that, the maximum number of weak points is 8 and you only have to beat that one if you're going for 100% completion or the String of Beads.

OT:
Psychonauts - The difficulty curve is *incredibly* out of whack towards the end.
Portal 2 - That *one* co-op achievement. You know the one... Probably...
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - The bizarre obstacle course in Chinatown that is seriously annoying for a character build leaning towards non-violent solutions.

Wow, way to... Not answer the thread question?
I think it's quite obvious that he is saying he hates the hats in Team Fortress 2 :p

The voice acting in Grandia 1. Such a good game, such memorable characters and a fun combat system...

Such weak ass and emotionless voices, especially near the end.

Tunnel shooting levels in otherwise non-shooter games. I've seen a few. Ninja Blade had one. I don't remember the others.

Escort missions, any game.

Annoying minigames.

The World Ends With You has a miiinor gripe: It's becoming difficult for me to find the time I need to raise my rank from Fallen Angel to Angel. It's so depressing.

Yeah, but they still pissed me off.

That one wall on the Oni Island had me ready to rip my own spleen out.

Morrowind's combat system: it's rather dull to say the least and requires very little (player) skill. That and the slow walking at lower speed/athletics levels.

Spiral Knights' energy mechanic is a pain that stops you from doing as many levels as you want.

Planescape Torment can get a bit boring at times, it's a very slow game.

Eden Eternal can get repetitive and grindy, as do most other mumorpugers.

Grand Theft Auto 4 "Hey caaasin, lets go bowling." Need I say more?

The fade sequence in the Tower in Dragon Age Origins, it's just running around in corridors killing stuff. The stat boosts you can find are handy though.

Edit: The planet scanning in Mass Effect 2, especially before you/ if you don't get the upgrade, it's incredibly tedious and I'm sure Bioware could have come up with a far less boring way to collect resources.

.... Thats a lot of games to hate on for little reasons, a lot your in the right on [fable, halo] but Pyconauts came out around 2003 right? I beat that when I was 7 if I'm correct on the release date, yeah it was hard, but only when you didn't try to figure it out. And saints row 2 is a stellar game, sure the driving is like controlling a action movie, but that was the fun bit, you would just flip the fuck out and it would be awesome because you almost NEVER die.

I actually wonder what you think of the Final Fantasy series, most of your reasons were very convincing, I'd love to hear more.

On topic, I have to say Minecrafts grind, seriously, the game is GRIND TASTIC!

The climbing sections in Uncharted 2, they were, at first, poorly signposted and often chose not to give you any hint of where to go until you've wandered about confused for 5 minutes.

In Dreamfall, the fighting bits, the puzzle bit in the underground where you have to match up the symbols and the big creature kills you dead if you are noticed, and also the stealth bit in WATI HQ where you have to get the virus into the big brain thing.

Any and all of the pathetic "RPG elements" in ME1.

The Fade in DAO, like most people. If the actual gameplay wasn't bad enough, the quality of the writing takes a massive nosedive for that whole section. Everybody suddenly starts talking in cliches.

The Sloth demon is awesome, though.
