What's wrong with a Facebook-esque way to check stats and join games? Really, what's wrong?

Isn't saying you're going to cancel a pre-order a little hasty, by something you haven't even seen or used?

It's a cleaner and simpler way to do that. It's just that.

And they have to have a server browser on the consoles because viewing a Webpage and even using it is a damn nightmare. I owned a PS3 once.
Wow do people have low standards.

OK let me explain what in development circles a web page UI translates to "laziest bodge job known to man", only seen in the shittiest of indie games, a triple A title with that... there was none before this.
>More efficient UI = being lazy

Your logic baffles me.
Alt-Tab is the direct opposite of efficient. Besides, it suffers EXACTLY the same issues as "Always-On DRM". You know, the most reviled thing that developers have done, ever.

This sounds like a hassle, I'm not exactly sure I'd want to have this game and play it if this is what they're doing.

Couldn't they just code a working in game server browser?

It's nowhere NEAR as bad as it sounds. It sounds like a pain but it actually works very well. In my experience it was easy to use and very fast, better than any other browser the battlefield games had

You dont have to Alt-Tab out. You hit exit game and it takes you directly to your browser, which has the server browser on it. I'ts really quick, easy to use, and makes sense. ive used it, and it works a hell of a lot better than a lot of other browsers I have used.

This game has no main menu.

That's almost too stupid to type.

I mean christ, most FLASH games have a menu.

THIS GAME HAS NO MAIN MENU.
I CANNOT CRITICISE THIS BECAUSE IT MAKE MY BRAIN HURT JUST CONSIDERING HOW STUPID THIS SOUNDS.

Well done EA, well done.
I know consoles are a lucrative market and all, but have you stopped trying to get money out of the PC gaming crowd?
They offer you money, you decline and slap them with your genitals.

Good thing i'm getting this on console i suppose.
Because dickery is the only language they speak, I suggest you buy it used from Gamestop. I know I will.
Wow and to think people I know say that the escapist comunity are a bunch of fickle hypocritical virgins whom rage at the slightest provacation. I wonder why they would say that?

edit: I would bet every dollar i have ever made that if Valve released this system it would not be a problem because "OMG ITS VALVE(jizzes in pants)"

edit: yes I MAD
Your guess is as good as mine.

And no. It wouldn't. Not from me, anyway.

Don't worry because it starts really fast. You know after the EA logo. And the Dice logo. And the ad for Nvidia. And Intel. And the intro movie. After that it starts fast.

Soo, if this doesn't have a main menu, where the hell do we change settings, keybindings or graphical options?

Are going to have to do it all in the config files?

Once in game you can change settings but only once you have spawned.

Just to clarify there is a server browser, it's just part of Battlelog so to start searching for a server to join you just have to open a new tab/your web browser, join one and boom it's loading the map, no waiting for a menu to load...

Only once you have spawned? usually after making plenty of changes including adding loads of AA and AF you need to restart.

This all seems like a major step backwards to me.

I literally do not get it. What goes through these people's minds? How is this a good idea?

Whatever. Wasn't going to get it, anyway; computer needs to be upgraded (costs too much), and I'm not a console person. My brother will probably get it for PlayStation 3, though.

Edit: apparently it's not as bad as it may initially seem. I'll check out some reviews when the game's released.

I can just barely wrap my head around this. I mean, no main menu? Why?! What was wrong with the way BF2 handled things? How are we going to edit graphical and control options? It's just so weird, and I doubt that this is going to work in favour of the customer.

Really, crap like this makes me happy I'm going to study Communications and Multimedia Design, which is basically; how do I make shit as user friendly as possible. I could then get my ass into the gaming industry and slap people silly who think shit like this is a good idea.

I smell another "THEY DIDN'T LET US HAVE DEDICATED SERVERS SO LET''S SHIT ALL OVER THE FLOOR IN PROTEST!!!1!!!!" event happening again
You know what the worst is; there are dedicated servers. They just seem to be hell-bend on making this extremely convulted and plain user unfriendly. I'm getting doubts on whether I want this game or not.

For reference I played the alpha and I hated the method of launching the game; at the time I as like "its only alpha", but now DICE can go shove it.

To think I was going to buy this game.
If it's only alpha they might change it, if the backlash is big enough. I freakin' hope so...
lacktheknack said:

I wouldn't go that far. While it sounds stupid and convulted, at least it doesn't treat the customer as a criminal.

But you still have to re-boot the game, or alt-tab, which can also be pretty damn slow. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for sure, but I'm definitely not going to pre-order this game now. I might still get it, but I'm going to wait for some user reports about stuff like this.

So will there be like one big site, that acts just as an in-game server browser?
Or will servers be scattered all over different websites?

More importantly, how the fuck will this work when playing with friends? BFBC2 severely lacked a "join as group" feature, not only making it hard to join the same server unless you tried a half-empty one, but even harder to get on the same team, due to auto-balanceing not giving a fuck if you'd rather play with your friends than against them.
Now if this removes the "join server" option you get by right-clicking a friends name, you'll have to find the same server, from the list.

I don't care bout the Back to karkhan map pack any more, at least not enough to pre-order for the sake of it.
This game is gonna haev to prove itself before i lay down my money, which is a sad turn for a franchise, I would've fully trusted to deliver nothing but awesomeness a year back.

Changing them did not require a restart but there were no detailed options only resolution and low, medium and high.

Battlelog = Facebook for BF3, you have a friends list, newsfeed. with it you can join their games, create squads with friends etc. All servers on there.

That seems really useless to me, only low, medium and high?!

What is this, a pc game or not. It seems we'll have to go dig around the config files to get anything done, that's if they even bother having any we can use, considering they want this to basically be a browser game from what it sounds like.

TBH the battlelog worked fantasticly in the alpha, far better than most server lists I've used. I think this is a move forward, and ask you to try it out in the beta before you complain :)
