PETA Tries to Guilt Animals Out of Mafia Wars

They're bitching about animals that aren't even real? Wow. Okay, PETA. Don't waste your time and resources on such pointless things; it makes you look bad (worse). What does me finding a tiger during a robbery have to do with animal abuse in real life? Thanks for trying, but go away.

I've socialized with a member of the organization, before. She showed me a video of folks skinning live rabbits for fur. Now, this is strange because if the rabbit dies in a painful way, the fur becomes stiff and unusable. The skinners would have realized this and simply broken their necks quickly, painlessly and efficiently, as is the proper routine for skinning a rabbit for any purpose.

When I explained this to her and told her that the video was most likely PETA doing it themselves in order to gai nshock value, she didn't listen to me.

Amazing that they're worried about the addition of animals to THIS title of all things.
Mafia Wars is little more than a calculator with pictures for buttons, but I suppose things have been going so well that PETA wanted to jump at something that seemed marginally questionable by their (more than a little) blurry standards.

Or maybe it's just something that a lot of people play, so the issue will likely reach that audience. Animal rights issues are societal problems, and if PeTA wants to succeed they have to reach people.

It's like you don't understand how activism works.

I'm all for the ethical treatment of animals. In fact, abusing a cat, dog, bear, rhinoceros, what-have-you is a good way to get me to go batshit crazy on you sick bastards to the local police as a reasonable person would. That said, I hate PETA so much it isn't funny.

They've dumped red paint on people (some of them vegetarian and vegan) for... actually there was no reason, they just assumed that everyone abuses animals and everyone eats them and therefore they're allowed to abuse and attack everyone who isn't in PETA.

It's almost like a cult, where they're trying to purge unbelievers and torch their stuff. PETA has gone on record as saying they're OK with breaking windows and burning down laboratories because of animal testing going on therein. Although again, whether or not said laboratory actually does test on animals is not something they're interested in finding out beforehand. They just hate everybody.

PETA seems to be missing the point that the fact that such animals are popular with the seedy "tough guy" crowd is the exact point of putting them into a game about seedy tough guys. As far as how they are usually treated by such people... well understand this is a game about criminals, and human life is being treated as cheap from all I've been reading.

Pretty much just about everything they said pretty much explains exactly why it's not an issue for a villain simulator.

I don't do Facebook or play Zynga games though, so for all I know "Mafia Wars" could be about gnomes bringing free ice cream and joy to children world wide... but I'm pretty sure the name pretty much says what the game is actually about, which definatly makes this a "huh?" crusade.
