Shush! We can't let them know. It's called a secret for a reason, you fool!Blanks said:shewolf51 said:Who said we were proud of it? I know I'm definitely not. And also, hunting newborn harp and hooded seals has been banned since 1987.Carnagath said:I didn't even know there was such a tradition in Canada, but wow, seriously? And they are proud of that? I'm sorry but that's fucking barbaric, it's like promoting a tradition of stabbing puppies to death just because it's "customary", I mean what the fuck? Well, thanks PETA for bringing this to my attention I guess, although there's not much I can do about it, but in any case I see nothing wrong with peaceful protest in an imaginative way, such as they are doing.

OH Shi- uh ... just act natural if anyone asks it's all a ploy to sell maple syrup...shewolf51 said:Shush! We can't let them know. We also can't let them know that seals are actually filled with candy.
Yeah, they don't really care who's doing it. They just want it stopped utterly and completely whether it's Inuit or not. Of course, if we tried to stop it for the Inuit we'd have Human Rights groups down our throats complaining about trying to stamp out a native group's culture. And then of course, if we allowed exception for the Inuit, PETA would start complaining again. It's a no win situation.Disaster Button said:Sadly, PETA are kinda bitches when it comes to things like that.shewolf51 said:"It is illegal in Canada to hunt newborn harp seals known as "whitecoats". I'm actually pretty disappointed about that.
Unfortunately, after the pups molt their coast after 15 days, then they can be commercially hunted but the government regulates the intake so there's a limit on how many can be hunted.
Then of course, there's the seal hunt for the Inuit, but they generally only take one seal per year and it's for sustenance only.
Also, Canada isn't the only country to have a seal hunt. Norway, Greenland, Namibia, and Russia participate in seal hunting as well. PETA is just using the fact that Canada's hosting the Olympics to draw attention to the Seal Hunt.

Actually, according to the Penn & Teller episode about PETA, it seems like PETA kills lots and lots of cute animals every year (e.g. dogs and cats that they can't find a home for).Amnestic said:But they're soooo cuuuuuute! You can't kill cute animals! PETA says so!Pingieking said:Why? There's nothing wrong with hunting seals. I kind of wish that they'd sell the seal meat. I agree. I have no problem with hunting if it's for food, and every part of the animal is used, but...clubs? This is just barbaric. It's too much unnecessary suffering for the animal. For the first time ever, I think I'm going to have to side with PETA on this.Disaster Button said:I honestly didn't think Canada would be the kind of country to have a freaking annual Seal Hunt. Killing for profit. They are not cows you breed or sheep, you are killing wild animals and it may very well lead to extinction.Hardcore_gamer said:Disaster Button said:I honestly didn't think Canada would be the kind of country to have a freaking annual Seal Hunt. Seals are just animals like bears and deers, so long as you make good use of the meat and fur and don't just kill them for no reason i fail to see what the problem is.Abedeus said:Honestly? As much as I'm against seal clubbing and seal hunting,
I know but I'm secrelty a nutcase who doesn't want animals to die ever. I'd be vegetarian if I didn't love meat so much. But there's not a lot thta can be done really so I don't let it really bother me.Hardcore_gamer said:Disaster Button said:I honestly didn't think Canada would be the kind of country to have a freaking annual Seal Hunt.
