I think Vick is a scumbag, but I would vote for him just to piss off PETA. A member of PETA tried to get my dog taken away from me on multiple occasions.

Well, I mean...this is tricky for me. On one hand PETA is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. On the other hand, I oppose pretty strongy what Vick did.

But I'd never buy Madden either way so whatever I guess.

As much as I hate this dog-killing piece of garbage in human form, PETA objecting to him almost makes me want to vote for him. Almost. I wouldn't vote for Vick for anything except a long walk off a short pier.

Oh PETA, it's so cute when you think people will listen to you.

You know what, I don't like the guy for what he did, it's deplorable, and I think he should've gotten a harsher punishment than he did. BUT, he did his time and turned his life around (I assume), and for that I applaud him. He should be judged for his PLAYING ability, not by his personal life.

I'm sure the good people at PETA are all upstanding citizens for them to throw stones like that.

Also, it's a real fucking kicker that PETA hates Vick seeing that they themselves euthanised 1325 cats and dogs a few years ago. Dumbasses...
Some helpful reading:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_euthanasia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_cruelty
A difference between animal cruelty and animal euthanasia? Sure. But PETA, the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals KILLS animals. The organization that wants animals to have the same rights as people KILLS animals. Doesn't that make them mass murderers?
PETA does not want animals to have the same rights as humans, and the idea behind euthanasia is that it is better for the animals to die painlessly than continue to suffer or starve to death.
My main problem with the responses in this thread is the fact that people are honestly putting aside Vick's actions, actions they self-admittedly abhor, because PETA is the group complaining is exactly the sort of cliched "Hitler was a vegetarian" bullshit I thought everyone grew out of by the seventh grade. You could make the argument that his personal life should have no bearing on whether he shows up on the cover of a game, but I doubt anyone would be if it were bums instead of dogs he was dragging off the street and torturing.

I hope.
I don't hate PETA because it's the "cool thing to do", I hate PETA because I honestly believe that they are some of the worst people on earth. They ran a campaign where they trivialized the holocaust. Seriously, they compared jews with animals? What the fuck? They financially supported Rodney Coronado, an arsenist and member of ALF (Animal Liberation Front). Ingrid Newkirk, founder and leader of PETA, actually called him "a fine young man". What?

Vick is no saint, he did horrible things. The difference between him and PETA is that he's trying to make good and pay for his crimes while PETA continues to terrorise and abuse people that they don't agree with.

As much as I dislike about 99% of the things PETA does...

I support this choice...

I hate the fact that as a criminal,Vick, was able to gain his all star football player status... The fact the NFL lets him play makes me sick of their shit too....

Should have brought the hammer down...he had no need to be fighting dogs if he is/was a MILLIONAIRE VIA NFL MONEY...srsly...

Tho...the "Madden Curse" might be interesting...

PETA, alot of people want things, but very few among them actually get things.

Speaking of the Madden Curse, EA is supposedly making a comedy movie based on it.
This is an excellent prospect.

Random thought. Michael Vick alone in a room with Shadow from Dead to Rights: Retribution.
Anyone else in favor?

That being said, considering some of the recent shit EA has pulled i wonder if they chose Michael Vick specifically to get publicity for the controversy.

As far as I'm concerned, being a Scotsman and far from a sports enthusiast anyway, I've never heard of the man.

But what I am is a dog person. And I'm one of those weird guys who reckon he should be forced into some kind of sleep/coma whereby he is artificially plagued with dreams of being treated the way he did to dogs by giant dogs, leering and barking and all sorts.

I'd love a justice system that destroys your mind first. That DS9 episode with this kind of justice was brilliant - Chief O'Brien was never the same!

Too much Star Trek, a little bit Hippy, rolled into a bearded and awkwardly confrontational Metalheads body. Hooray!

I bet they put him on there just for all the free publicity PETA will give them by crying over it.

Again, it doesn't make a bit of difference that PETA is the group decrying Vick's appearance on the game cover. I don't approve of PETA's practices, nor even many of their goals, either. If you're going to make an argument, you have to do so from a position other than "the people protesting this are douchebags, therefore it should happen", because despite the opinion of most people on this thread that isn't actually an argument.

Well.. the PETA Boogieman seems to be doing something that isn't totally retarded.
I can actually see a reason to want this.

It is, though maybe not one you like. Any decision is made by analyzing the costs and benefits. Even if you don't like Vick and see him being honored with a Madden cover as an undesirable thing, you may get enough personal enjoyment out of PETA being embarrassed or being denied their way that it outweighs it.

Is that a good reason? Perhaps not. But it is *a reason*.

I don't think Michael Vick had a decent chance of being voted onto the cover, precisely because of the dog fighting thing... until PETA said they didn't want him on the cover. I dunno, there's something about that organisation that makes me want to see them fail and cry a lot.

And I am for the ethical treatment of animals and don't think Vick should be forgiven but PETA are a bunch of annoying cunts.

Personally I think Vick should be shot twice in the head but that doesn't mean I side with PETA here. He is a great athlete even if he is a worthless human being.

I love animals, especially dogs, so I hate Michael Vick, but I also hate the psychos that love animals too much. So, I'm split.
Then again, I don't play sports games.

Hmmm If anyone OTHER than PETA had pointed this out id be apt to agree, but agreeing with them would just make me feel dirty....
It's honestly gotten to that point. As soon as I see PETA I get pissed off.
