Just want to get one thing out of the way, PETA are a bunch of hypocritical, holier-than-thou dicks, a cult which has done nothing but make life miserable for those who actually work with animal wellfare.

Now to the main point, psychopaths frequently start out with torturing and killing animals, and psychopaths can not be "reformed", "cured", or "rehabilitated". Only way a psychopath can be made less of a threat to others is to by force medicate them into oblivion, and/or to lock them away from the rest of society, forever. Someone who tortures and kills animals has serious issues, and I would not like to have that kind of individual around normal ppl. I can not claim I am familiar how your legal system works, but I do get the distinct feeling that had he been a Joe Nobody he would have been dropped into a dark hole without a seconds hesitation.

A difference between animal cruelty and animal euthanasia? Sure. But PETA, the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals KILLS animals. The organization that wants animals to have the same rights as people KILLS animals. Doesn't that make them mass murderers?
PETA does not want animals to have the same rights as humans, and the idea behind euthanasia is that it is better for the animals to die painlessly than continue to suffer or starve to death.
My main problem with the responses in this thread is the fact that people are honestly putting aside Vick's actions, actions they self-admittedly abhor, because PETA is the group complaining is exactly the sort of cliched "Hitler was a vegetarian" bullshit I thought everyone grew out of by the seventh grade. You could make the argument that his personal life should have no bearing on whether he shows up on the cover of a game, but I doubt anyone would be if it were bums instead of dogs he was dragging off the street and torturing.

I hope.
I don't hate PETA because it's the "cool thing to do", I hate PETA because I honestly believe that they are some of the worst people on earth. They ran a campaign where they trivialized the holocaust. Seriously, they compared jews with animals? What the fuck? They financially supported Rodney Coronado, an arsenist and member of ALF (Animal Liberation Front). Ingrid Newkirk, founder and leader of PETA, actually called him "a fine young man". What?

Vick is no saint, he did horrible things. The difference between him and PETA is that he's trying to make good and pay for his crimes while PETA continues to terrorise and abuse people that they don't agree with.
Again, it doesn't make a bit of difference that PETA is the group decrying Vick's appearance on the game cover. I don't approve of PETA's practices, nor even many of their goals, either. If you're going to make an argument, you have to do so from a position other than "the people protesting this are douchebags, therefore it should happen", because despite the opinion of most people on this thread that isn't actually an argument.
But that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that I believe Michael Vick should be one of the candidates to be on the Madden NFL 2012 cover simply because he played a great season of football. That's it. If that didn't come out in my earlier posts I apologize, but that's how I feel.

I'm basically trying to defend myself against the "he killed dogs, he shouldn't even be able to play"-comments. He's paying for his crimes and trying to be forgiven for his actions, most people should be able to do that (I'm sorry if that sentence sounded strange, I couldn't find the right words to use).

Have they ever thought that maybe EA put him in the running because he's a great football player, and not because he was a animal abuser? Since this is a football game and not a running for Animals Favorite Person Ever, I think they have no real reason to interfere.

Michael Vick shouldn't even be an option. He shouldn't be in the NFL, making millions of dollars. He's a disgrace to humanity, and he should still be in a cell, like the rest of us would be had we committed those crimes. How many of us would even have jobs after having been convicted of those crimes? Exactly.

I don't understand peoples hate for Michael Vick. Ben Roethlisberger got away with rape 3 times. It's ok for Bret Farve and the entire NY Jets team to sexually harass women. The entire Vikings team can get caught having sex with hookers on a party boat. And the worst guy in the NFL is Michael Vick?
People seem to tolerate rapist, drug traffickers, DUI, and indeed human murders (Dante Stallwort) but killing animals is some unforgivable horror? Its not that I think animal cruelty isn't a big deal, it is. But do we honestly value the lives of dogs above peoples? And it's not as if Vick got away with his crimes. Michael Vick was adequately punished. He went to prison, served his time and still owes about 50 million dollars in fines, various fees, and penalties. What else do you want from him?

O Jesus Christ I hate PETA more than religious people.

I hate them because they always say they are against animal testing but I bet none of them would take the animals place.

At the end of the day Vick did something millions of people do and he was made to suffer because he is well known is that fair ? I don't think people understand too much about dog fighting either.

He served his time and proved all his haters wrong to have a brilliant season. He deserves this so why shouldn't he have It ?

I hate PETA, but Micheal Vick's a total douchenozzle. He didn't just fight dogs, he shot them too. I mean, he's not a role model for kids. Sure he had a great season, but that doesn't mean he still wasn't a doucher.

That is an argument, and it did come across in your previous posts. Again, my main problem was with saying "if PETA's against it, it must be fine" which is what was coming across in your (and many others') later posts. This is separate. I think the problem with this argument is that dog fighting isn't really the sort of thing you can be sorry for without a major change in character. It's not like he assaulted someone or said something he shouldn't have; a continuing crime like that shows a nature of violence, sadism, and a general contempt for life. The only reason he's "sorry" is that he was caught. That's the problem people have with putting him on the cover; regardless of how good a football player he is, for some given value of evil people shouldn't be celebrated or made role models.

Actually Joe Nobody wouldn't have gotten the fanfare that Vick got and probably wouldn't even gotten busted, but if he did, he would have gotten a longer jail time, a fine, and some counseling. Oh, and be forbidden to own animals ever again.

I did say "I assume" though, I don't know the guy well enough to say for sure that he did, from his actions so far I would assume that he did. I agree though that for someone to torture animals, they would have to be messed up for them to do that, even though cock fighting was legal here for a long time until that was broken up a few years or so ago and most of the people were doing it for the lolz.

I wouldn't call Vick a psychopath though, 'twould be a bit extreme.

GOOD. Football players (Professional sports players in general) are nothing but overpaid brainless morons. It's a god damn FUCKING shame when people who go out to war to defend there country are paid less than a bunch of losers running around on a field touching each other.

Its up to parents to chose who their kids see and try and emulate. Vicks an asshole for what he did but he's an athlete. If only he were rich and white and I make this statement based off both Edward Kennedy and Laura Bush who both killed people (in cars) but its widely unspoken of. Vick did intentionally kills the dogs and made them fight for sport, he also served his time. If he was running a child sex ring or something that'd be different but people (not you specifically) need to let it go.

I started to say child fight ring but I started thinking of this for some reason.

Isn't "why would EA invite the backlash" a bit of a stupid question at this point?

I mean... isn't that EXACTLY what they did with the whole MoH Taliban debacle?
There is no 'bad' publicity. This will just get more people voting and such.

I don't like PETA not so much for their principals but their mind numbingly bad public relations and deceptive and low brow ads.

As for Michael Vick, he's a terrible human being and putting him on the cover of a game that's E-Rated will be a terrible example for everyone. He didn't just "fight dogs" as some of you people did, he tortured countless defenseless animals, even generations of them. And as for "serving his time" I don't think he served nearly enough time as deserved for the pain he has caused.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/magazine/12/22/vick.dogs/#ixzz1IE4ure6u

The water in the bowls was speckled with algae. Females were strapped into a "rape stand" so the dogs could breed without injuring each other. Some of the sheds held syringes and other medical supplies, and training equipment such as treadmills and spring bars (from which dogs hung, teeth clamped on rubber rings, to strengthen their jaws). The biggest shed had a fighting pit, once covered by a bloodstained carpet that was found in the woods.

According to court documents, from time to time Vick and his cohorts "rolled" the dogs: put them in the pit for short battles to see which ones had the right stuff. Those that fought got affection, food, vitamins and training sessions. The ones that showed no taste for blood were killed -- by gunshot, electrocution, drowning, hanging or, in at least one case, being repeatedly slammed against the ground.

I also remember hearing, that they found dog remains in one the propertie's microwaves, but can't find any info now.

I'll vote for Vick because I'm an Eagles fan, he's the best QB in the league right now, AND to spite PETA.
naw he's good, but Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady are better.
