Peter is never satisfied with his work.
Ah, but I personally see that as a good thing. I like Molyneux anyway, as a developer and as a person (he seems like a cool guy, and he's been a very good influence on the industry and has helped keep the UK developers on the map, which as an Englishman and aspiring developer myself is a good thing for me). So if he's unhappy with his work, then it means he'll always be driven to improve and make something even better, which is good for him, for his company, and especially good for his fans and for gamers in general. I wish more developers would make the effort to improve all the time, like Molyneux does, instead of rehashing the same old crap all the time (I'm talking about you, EA and Activision...)...

I see so many great and amazing ideas in the Fable series that unfortunately were not developed enough. I wish Microsoft would cut the deadlines and give Lionhead as much time as they need with the next Fable. It seems that the only thing the Fable series needs in order to realize its potential is time.
While this could be a great idea, as is Peter keeps coming up with new ideas he want's to add, if he has all the time he needs to make a game, I can see that we'll be waiting as long as DNF took, and you will be able to tell where the changes of gaming took place during the games production when you play it. But I might be wrong and maybe the game would live up to his great view for it, we can only hope.
From what I've seen after playing both all of the Fable games it just seems as if the developers didn't have enough time to realize their ideas. Duke Nukem Forever was the product of laziness and all around incompetence, at least from what I've seen.

I just wish Lionhead had enough time to realize all of their ideas. You can see so many sparks of greatness in their games that were simply not realized due to the tight production schedule.
I agree completely with that, I was simply meaning Peter would probably keep adding to the game, if he had someone to sit with who would say "No, we can't add more, it needs to be finished some time soon" Then it could be great and the games could live up to what he wants them to be.
And the DNF thing was simply me saying it would take as long as that game if he was adding to it, but thankfully, even if it did take that long, we could be secure in the knowledge that at least he was working on a great game rather than making a bland game that most people could make in a year or so.

"A very different approach to game development"

Maybe they and everyone else should take a look at Valve: the clearest and most transparent example of evidence-based design in any developer. If Lionhead is supposed to be given plaudits because Fable 3 is their worst game, consider that Left 4 Dead is Valve's worst and it's still brilliant.

I think molyneux is simply a bad game designer, lionhead are simply a bad game design company.

The bit amongst all the other bits I hated about fable three was going around farting on people to get naughty points as if the game was designed for 6 year olds then all of a sudden having gay sex capabilities with my coop partner and getting married.

wtf?

and the rest of the game sucked because they spent all their money on voice acting which was good at times. the dialogue did not match the calibur of the talent.

Ok, Peter, enough is enough. You're a likable guy who obviously puts his heart and soul into his games, but instead of apologizing for every game, you need to actually fix the problems you keep apologizing for.

The problem is, where do you draw the line between someone who honestly, earnestly, tries their best and fails and someone who really is just all hype, all the time?

If he were the PR machine many people (justifiably!) think of him as, I'd imagine he'd be quite pleased with the not-terrible reviews. His stance seems to be, "this was good, but we can do better!"

Whether you actually believe that's his aim or not, I will always wholeheartedly support someone who says that in the gaming industry; I think it is what more developers need to hear.
Compare this to Mike Laidlaw and EA's "acknowledgments" of DAII's problems.

?We made a super, super awesome game! But, even though it was so great, and even though most people absolutely loved it, for some mysterious reason, some people complained about it.

We totally get that some people thought that it was just slightly less awesome than they should have, and that makes us sad. We wanted you to know that. We really hope that when Dragon Age III comes out they stop not realizing how amazing it is.?

Maybe if he made better games they wouldn't get poorly reviewed. :L

Peter is the king of broken promises, and NO Fable game has ever lived up to the hype of things he claimed would be in Fable 1, because he is a liar.

Hey Peter! Why not make Fable 3 on PC available for me to purchase, so that I could lower that score further!

This piece of news dropping just after the Jimquisition and Extra Credits each did episodes about the problems with our review system. Seriously, why should someone be ashamed of getting a 4/5?

He's extremely lucky it even broke 80 on metacritic. It doesn't deserve even that. Yahtzee's review points at everything wrong with the game that makes it so bad.

Why can't they live in poverty for one year so they don't fucking die? so much rage. stupid game.

"It didn't end up being the game that I dreamed it would be"

Im sorry Mr.Molyneux I have no intention of impregnating a game.

I didnt like the game when it came to mechanis but the visual aesthetics were nice and the writting/voice acting was really good so not a bad game by any means.

Well, on the surface at least, that seems like a good thing. If you can recognize the flaws in your game, it makes them a lot easier to fix.

On a side note, I swear Peter says he needs to take a "very different" apprach to all the Fable games. I'm convinced it will be a side scrolling platformer by the time we get to number 5.
Yeah, he keeps shooting himself in the foot by re-inventing the wheel every time. He needs to learn to just take it easy with every other iteration so that he can perfect what he did with the last iteration instead of coming up with a whole new slew of ideas.

I also think that Fable III had a flawed premis- the whole "Rule-the-kingdom" part just doesn't mesh well with the base of what Fable is.

If Fable III "didn't end up being the game that [he] dreamed it would be", why did he bother putting it out and not wait to make it the game he wanted?

To me this is just another case of a developer making excuses for a poor to mediocre game.

Actually, He probably rather would have waited, but as is the case with most games these days, pressure from Microsoft means they have to release these half finished games. The developers have a lot less say in how long it takes in today's world.

I thought Fable 3 was pretty good, actually. Not as good as the first Fable, mind, but that was one of the greatest video games I've ever played - so it's a pretty high standard.

Why did people seem to not enjoy Fable 3?

So, is he ashamed of the scores he's getting, or is he ashamed of making a game worthy of those scores? 'cause I definitely think he should feel one over the other.
