Molyneux just needs to get his games playtested more, they usually have broken mechanics that have decent ideas behind them (the Inner Sanctum or whatever it's called in Fable 3 is a perfect example, interesting idea completely destroyed by the massive amount of micromanagement).

I'm tired of PM. This happens every time he makes a game and it's getting old.

If I was you Peter I'd step back, take a deep breathe and get your shit together. Stop making Fable games for a start. What happened to interesting stuff like Black & White or the Movies or even Populous? Not every game was great but they always felt sincere, creative and charming. Let's have something interesting from Lionhead again.

Seriously, am I the only person who likes Molyneux? Yeah, he talks a lot of shit, but he is genuinely trying! Despite all their flaws, the Fable series is fucking excellent. I hope Molyneux continues to better his approach to development and I look forward to what ever crack-pot schemes he rambles about in the future. Go'on Pete! Show'em how it's done!

It doesn't matter how ashamed he is or how often he apologizes about the problems in Fable because he never fucking fixes them, nor does Lion Head.

I remember once reading a reply to a member who asked why you were always glued to the ground in the Fable series, to which a dev replied "We don't want people jumping around all willy nilly", and here I though it was because they were too fucking lazy to properly program.

There is only one thing I find bearable in the Fable games, and that's the music, but to be accurate, that's thanks to Danny Elfman and Russell Shaw. Thank god for the osts, otherwise I might be forced to play those shitty games to hear the beautiful and soothing tunes.

There are Options that they could simply offer into the Game that would result in a much larger Score, or praise for the Game.

1: Offer a Tutorial.

Here you can pick your later Specialty, be that Magic(Will), Skill-based or Melee-based. While your Hero can use all three of those, allow customization by allowing us to choose from the start which Area we want to specialize in, which reduces Damage for the other 2 Areas and increases it for our Specialty. A Hero with Skill as his Specialty causes more damage with ranged Weaponry. Sounds simple? It is, but it also allows some Freedom.

2: Dont force DLC.

DLC should at the least be the rough Amount of what Traitor's Keep is. Do not cut Gamecontent so you can sell it later. That means Dyes, Clothes, Weapons, Quests or whole Areas.

3: Weapon Morphing.

Nice Idea, bad execution. It was promised that we can create our own personal Weapons. Thats a good Idea, at least until you realize that said morphing is based on a random Number Generator as it were, it simply checks if you have done the appropriate Action to recieve it and then it becomes luck if you get what you want. That is bad. If anything, keep Weapon Morphing but allow People to pick their Morphs instead of having to reload a bazillion times to get the right one they wanted.

4: Weapons.

Bring back Bows. I have nothing against Guns but what happened to Bows? Why were they phased out completely? Why cant we opt to use them anymore? Bring them back as a Alternative to Guns.

5: NPC Interaction.

Do not force us to do the Minigame of Press Button, do Fetch Quest, press Button, do next Fetch Quest to improve standing with a single NPC. Do away entirely with the whole Fetchquest Idea. Its unnecessary. Change the Emote-Options back to Fable 1 Standards, that being allow multiple NPCs to be affected by your Actions, not just one each time.

6: Proper Focus.

I have spent more time in the leading up to the eventual Revolution than i have in the proper "Ruling Phase" of the Game. That is a bad Design right there. If your Focus lies on making Nationwide Decisions, they should be plentyful, have a direct Impact on your Actions and you should not be able to cancel them out with your private Money. Either one way, or the other.

7: Morality

Do away with the Good/Evil Type while you are at it and merely keep it at Level of how popular you are. Increasing Taxes will of course also lower your Popularity with NPCs, commiting a Crime would and so forth. Doing noble Deeds would of course then increase popularity again. However it does not require a Good/Evil Meter for it. You can be doing good deeds while being evil, yet in each Fable its either one or the other. Allow Choice. Remove the Good/Evil Meter and replace is solely with a type of 7 Sins vs 7 Virtues Type of System. It has been used in Fable 2, yet in Fable 3 Morality has a much bigger Impact, so it all comes down to good or evil again. Allow for People to really create their own Character, if possible even seperate Morphs for your Character based on each Meter.

8: Death.

Bring back Death. Create a Hardcore Mode in which Death is permanent and forces you to reload a Save. Dying means "well back to the loading screen" in that Mode. In the Normal Mode you get merely knocked out, giving each the Option for how they want to play. When you are knocked out, you get scarred. Simple as that. It should be a Effort to stay alive, or if you want to be a Roadmap of some random Town, go ahead and dont bother with Potions. It gives Options however. Want the harder Experience with potential Death and Reload? Play Hardcore Mode. Want to get Scars? Play Normal Mode and die alot. Dont want Scars? Dont die.

9: No Console/PC Exclusive.

If possible release your Game on as many Platforms as you can. Do not give one part of your demographic the shaft ala Fable 2 which was 360 exclusive. If you want People to like your Game, stop forcing them to buy a specific System and try to get to as many as possible, without sacrificing Style of Controls. It was possible in Fable 1 and 3, so i dont really see the Point. If Microsoft is a ***** about it, tell them to go to Hell.

Fable has already moved past the RPG Idea really, that does not mean we cant have Choices for our Character, even if they arent Stat-related and Numbers.

Okay..now someone Mail that to Peter. Maybe it helps.

This does seem to be the pattern. Let me be frank that Molyneux has made some incredible, and even visionary, games. But it's so common for features of his grand visions to get derailed (usually by time constraints) that it's amazing they let him do publicity any more.

If nothing else, I think he'd do well to take a step back from morality systems for a while. At least strict black-and-white ones. (I know, this from the guy who made a game literally called Black & White.)

I always feel so sorry for Pete Molyneux. He's so very keen and excited and he has all these big ideas and runs his mouth off about them while behind him all his developers and designers are screaming "No! No! Shit who let him get off the leash!?" Then when the resulting game doesn't live up to Molyneux and everyone else's expectation he droops his ears and puts his tail between his legs and says "I'm sorry, I did bad... but - " he picks up again"- the next one will be even better and will do this and that and bring your dead pets back to life-"

("No! Dammit! Someone get him a muzzle etc.")

He has acknowledged himself that he gets over excited. You've got to appreciate that though, it's nice to see someone who's that excited by his own work.

seriously though, that guy needs to take a break. He's a creative guy and is following his dream. i don't want him to stop being creative. that's the last thing we want from a person. Maybe just take a year off and write a book or something, just don't let him tinker with Fable for a while. Come back with fresh thought out ideas and not just concepts.

I'd like to believe you, but actually Fable III's developers were talking more crap than he was this game around. The Escapist ran a story about how one of the lead designers was whining bitterly about all the negative press and complaining that the game didn't receive a swag of voice acting awards.

i'm prepared to like someone who admits to his mistakes as a person, but I'm not going to buy games from someone who clearly doesn't learn from his mistakes. That's Molyneux.

And he should be. Ashamed I mean.

I remember my first experience with fable: I was a young eager little gamer with a brand new shiny xbox. What's this? a game with a dark fantasy story line and NOT something along the lines of spyro the dragon? hmmm....

About 2 years of my life later

HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AWESOME!!!111!!11 OMG FABLE 2 :D!

And that's when my disappointment began. I miss the awesomeness that was Fable 1. I miss the guild! the guild was what the whole game was about!! being part of an awesome exclusive club with an awesome exclusive club house. And they took that away :(

Huh, didn't even notice it coming out...

But seriously, Molyneux is like a pharmaceutical company, every year he promises a cure to cancer and delivers a mildly effective cough medicine.

I'm glad he's listening to criticism. I think the Fable series has some of the greatest potential there is. The first one was amazing beyond belief, the second one was pretty meh, and the third one was good but not great. But the thing that I love about the Fable series is how the story flows. The first one is an interesting adventure in a strange version of England, the Second one uses the first as a jumping off point and it doesn't dawdle in it. And then the third one has some interconnecting bits from the first and second but once again it tells an entirely different story.

The problem is that the gameplay needs to be kicked up a notch. Fable tries to do to much and it gets spread thin. They need to get the combat to a point where it can't be broken with AoE magic and it's more interesting then just hack and slash. They really need to revamp the romance, give us several unique character throughout the world, some important to the story, some important to side quests and some that are just interesting characters. Let us marry any of those people, we don't care about faceless villagers. The customization is amazing and one of my favorite bits not much needs to be changed there.

"Peter is Ashamed of Fable III"

What, This is news?

Less Sarcasm though, He right the Ruling thing was pretty awesome but it came up short. Why can't I just go back to being a hero, growing up from being a kid to a fucking old badass? That, was Fun.

Then again, I went from 18 to 65 in two weeks, so we should work on that o_O
And maybe, just maybe, limit the age at something like mid-high 30s. I have FableTLC on the computer, and by the times I get to the end of the game, I'm left abusing the infinite youth glitch, because I don't want my hero to be some old, creepy, wrinkly guy with excessive amounts of white body hair. I want my hero to be heroic looking (i.e. "manly and youthful", rather than "creepy and old"). Seriously, some uber-buff wrinkly guy is just ... thank zombie-Jesus for that youth glitch (and the money glitch on the PC that lets you use it)

Peter is never satisfied with his work.
That can be a good thing and a bad thing I suppose. I do agree with him though, the ruling mechanic was different and a bit more fun (Mostly for the fun arguments), but I was sad to realize it wasn't all that long.
Drawing a parallel to what I did for my Yearbook Senior Year of High School. I think its shit compared to what it COULD have been. I was the editor for it and all my ideas were shot down for what the "cool" kids wanted because they made up a majority of the class while I did a majority of the work. Fun times indeed. Well I am not satisfied in it at all while it is apparently the best year book my high school has had in a while.

Never having played a Fable game while owning both an original and 360 I have heard good things for Fable 1 bad things for 2 and 3 mostly from promises this guy has made and not followed through with while they are still pretty good games.

There is a difference from having things that you yourself hate about your product and then there is what you KNOW you could do better. I believe Molyneux is learning what he could have done better through the bashing of his games and not being satisfied with people not loving it wholeheartedly i am hoping that will make him create a game that is undeniably amazing.

Every time I've met Peter. What is quite a lot in all fairness. He always seems to be quite sincere and greatly concerned about his games and he does treat them as HIS games. You can see the personal connections he has with the game he creates.
this post was. hard to read. because of the random. periods.
