"An art, Master Moorton?" Leonart scoffed, "You couldn't be more wrong. To think and to act, they are processes that any creature may perform, many without trying. To swing that sword is no art. It requires no skill, no mastery. Any fool could grab that sword and kill someone with it. A proper art requires training, passion for which to make something beautiful. And butchering with a sword does not fall into that category." He pulled two arrows from his quiver and set them to the bow. "You wish to see art?"

He fired both arrows, one flying off to pierce the first statue's (B) side (for 11 damage), the other into the second statue's (D) head (for 11 damage). "Beautiful, no, Master Moorton? Now that required some skill."

Derrick openly laughed.

"Are you saying that Haseo is not passionate about his fighting? Just as anyone can learn to swing a sword, anyone can learn to fire a bow. You have your arts, and Haseo has his, as I have mine. Besides, art is how you make something unique, is it not?" Derrick questioned.

Derrick began to feel his power rise. It was time to Call Lightning. He was not a mage, but it should help with the statue that had just taken an arrow to the head (D). The energy in his hands flew forth, doing 11 damage.

"I feel that perhaps we should kill these before we discuss our thoughts on art, should we not?" Derrick said, feeling perhaps he should take a break before trying that again.

Haseo grinned. "Leonart, do you want to see art? One of these days, remind me to take you to see my friend Leonardo Da Vinci. Now that's art. However, I can do this:" Haseo shifted stance. He seemed to become a different person, more serious- and more deadly. He blurred from sight. He reappeared behind the three statues, his back turned, sword held in both hands behind his back with the blade facing down, while he was in a horse-stance. Multiple deep cuts blossomed on statues B, C, and D, dealing all three 22 damage. "Kamitachi Winds, First of the Thirteen Great Roads." Haseo growled.

Looking to Xero, I wonder how inventive we are allowed to be?

@fanklok: I should hope not, look at my crappy rolls

Will stumbles away from Statue D, and is stunned for a moment before Derrick's healing reinvigorates him. He draws his crossbow, fires both bolts at Statue C, dealing a total of 12 damage, then steps in close to hit with his sword for 8 (total damage is 21)

"Somebody finish it off" he says while dancing out of it's reach

I really need to start playing less Guild Wars

Sure be creative in combat my poorly conveyed idea was for each of you to be the absolute masters of your craft to justify no leveling.

Statue B 27
Statue C died about 10 posts ago
Statue D 16

Xero I'll let you cheat this one time and perform some imaginary sword technique to finish them off because I'm sure we're all tired of fighting animated stautes.

Sweet! One supermove coming up!

Haseo growled. "I am sick of these statues." He put away his sword as he began to glow with black fire. He opened his eyes. "Hellfire Blitz!" He roared. within the second, the statues were lit ablaze and Haseo had two more of the stones in his hands. The statues crumbled to ashes. Haseo choked the fire and shook his head. He was his fun- loving self again. "Well, what now?" He asked, putting the three stones in his pack and stifling a yawn.

Derrick grinned.

"Nice to see you in such a good mood Haseo. I would think now we would just continue down the path, since the cave doesn't seem to offer us much choice. Anyone need any major patching up before we move on?" Derrick asked, hoping Leonart didn't raise a fuss about the stones that Haseo had just pocketed.

Do we heal naturally over time, or do I have to heal every bloody scratch everyone gets?

Is your constitution at least 20? Haha I jest we'll just go with you heal everyone after each battle is completely over and have no need to ever post about ever.

I'll wait for you guys to go through the completely normal no magic seals or anything like that doorway to perform GM like things

"Master Infernus, you should have shown me those moves before I assumed you were so unskilled. I stand by my assessment that swordplay is no art. But whatever you just did... It was an amazement." Leonart looked around, attempting to spy any arrows that had survived impact with the statues. It seemed that none had.

"Now, if we could continue? I feel less than ideal in this place, and would like to rid myself of it's dank awfulness as soon as possible." As he finished he went to the next door, knocking on it with his bow. It seemed to do nothing, so he assumed it was now safe enough to send someone else ahead. "If someone would be kind enough as to open this door?"

Sorry, ever since I played The Dungeon I'm a bit more cautious of what my character is doing at the time. I'm not making it two RPs where I die from wanting to move the story along quickly.

Derrick sighed as he finished healing the last of the wounds from the fight with the statues. It was a usual practice, but one he hoped that would not get too hard as they ventured deeper into the tomb.

"I agree. I would rather be doing what needs to be done here and leave. This place is unsettling, and I would rather be out of it as quickly as possible." Derrick said, agreeing with Leonart.

Besides, stone statues where probably the least of their problems in this place.

Ok guys.....Where is everyone? I don't see this going anywhere fast if there are only 4 of us, including the GM. No one is willing to go anywhere, cause we can't detect traps, nor a full time mage. Two things that are not only additional characters, but having unique skills that would be nice to have around. GM, are you sending out a call?

but with CroMagnon disappeared and BloodThoughts vansihed their characters must be killed as stated in the recent news

Ross answers Leonarts call for someone to open the door. "Hehe I thought I wouldn't get a chance to do much." He exclaims as he goes over to the door methodically checking every inch of it for any hidden mechanisms finding nothing wrong with he opens the door. Raisavoir walks next to him channeling arcane energy through his staff to light the way, though it is pointless when they enter the corridor a series of torches light themselves and there is a faint click and a wave of darts hit both of them, stumbling back they collapse to the ground. An easily identifiable smell arises showing the darts had been coated in Emberwild Viper venom, one dart would have been enough to kill either of them on a matter of minutes that many had been almost instantaneous.

Revolver your character being the insatiable knowledge hound he is had spent quiet some time getting lessons from Ross about building design and trap implementation, you're far from perfect but capable enough to keep everyone from getting killed or too lost.

Lack of a mage will be fixed later on, I'll be sure to make it very obvious

Haseo had been fast enough to whip out his sword annd deflect the one dart that had made it to him. The dart thudded into the wall as Haseo ran to check out the fallen members. He smelled Emberwild Venow, but he wanted to make sure. There was nary a pulse to be found. He fell on his butt from his squat, head ducked low. "Dammit, we've come this far, and now they die?"

Derrick walked over, already knowing that the tomb was not about to easily, if at all, release its victims. Haseo was already saying what he knew was true. Dead. Derrick looked upon the doorway, and then to Leonart.

"...do you suppose it was magic activated?" Derrick asked, wishing he could do something. "I mean...damn. He checked it, but as soon as Raisavoir stepped though....Damn."

Quietly, Derrick whispered a prayer for his fallen comrades. "May they find peace in their ends, as we will find peace in the journey for them."

Derrick stood, and looked upon the doorway. That bad air obviously stood for something. And that was it. Damn again.

"Magic-activated?" Leonart proceeded cautiously ahead, his eyes scanning the ground. "Hardly. The tell-tale click indicates that this trap was most likely set with a pressure switch, perhaps a stone that one of our two comrades stepped upon. Perhaps Master Terrias was in the process of finding it when Master Un'jaami walked upon it, setting the trap into motion before either had a chance to dodge. A damned shame too. We had much use for them yet. We'd best hope that you know some magic to make up for this, Sir Arnup."

He stooped down and plucked one of the darts from Ross' body. "Whoever set this trap was no amateur either. The Emberwild Viper is rarely seen in places of human interest. Only someone willing to pay a lot of money, or an avid enthusiast, would be willing to use a poison so far-fetched... And would indeed have to spend a lot of time and effort extracting, purifying and then reinserting the substance. This goes with our current theory though. The Gold King will have set these traps himself, or had a successor do so."

He uttered a prayer in Kaiman before standing. "We have no time to grieve, I am afraid. Destiny awaits us further into these labyrinthine catacombs, and we would be wise to not keep it waiting."

Emberwild Viper Venom a viper is a snake, I don't like having mismatching posts

Death is never an easy burden to bare, even for ones who see it often after saying their blessings the group continues down the hall though more carefully now. No traps go off or are found, and they enter another circular room with two doors and two pedestals a stone sword rests on one and a stone tome rests on the other.

It's a flower because I say it's a flower! Leonart knows all! I'll even have him explain the mismatching name. Just you watch!

Or, I'll chock it up as a mistake on Leonart's part. He's a hunter of large creatures and a knower of useless bits and pieces, not a botanist or a snake-charmer. if you think it needs fixing though, I will.

"It appears that stone is a recurring thought in the design of this place. Obviously the architect was not one to use his imagination much. Sit back for a while, and have a heal spell ready Master Moorton. I fear that traps may be at work here." He slowly made his way over to the heavy stone tablet, making sure he would not go the way of the Architect and Mage, and began to carefully examine it.

"As ready as I can be Leonart." Derrick replied.

After glancing about for a bit, Derrick wandered over to the stone tome. What an interesting idea, to make a book out of stone. He wondered if perhaps the book or the blade were special in some way, or just simply decoration.

"A book and a blade. Interesting. While the architect does lack imagination, Leonart, he certainly made up for it with detail. And enchantments." Derrick said, pointing back to the room they had just come.

3W informed me (amongst others) that he's going to be gone for a few days so we'll be on hold till he gets back

The pedestals reveal no hidden machinations of any kind, they were completely normal as was everything else in the room. Yet again the doors show no obvious signs of having a way to open.

Leonart circled the book for a moment before he paced to the sword and did the same, examining both with a critical eye. He finally stopped, his head resting upon his hand to signify a great deal of contemplation.

"Perhaps they indicate the great bastions that are Knowledge and Power? It seems a great way to keep people away. Two objects, two doors. The greedy seek power," he said, indicating the stone sword, "and are led astray, where the wise seek knowledge," he swapped to the tome, "and are rewarded as such. It seems a convoluted riddle, definitely one that would escape the minds of most graverobbers."

Stop posting? Never! Leonart Arimat Edgarus the Third stops speaking, thinking and indicating for no man!

...Fine, I'll stop. Just tell me when we get to begin running around again. I just wanted to get Leonart's thoughts out for this particular puzzle. *sticks tongue out at ThreeWords*

Haseo stared at both thinking. "And yet, without power, knowledge cannot be spread. Look at Galileo. He knew that the Earth orbited the sun, and yet the Church shut him up for over 400 years. The funny thing is that he was right." Haseo shook his head. "No, I think the two are equal, merely on opposite ends of the scales. However, so many fools seek power, for more bad reasons than good. But the worst evils come from knowledge. If you can kill, then you are able to do some horrible deeds, but if you have knowledge and an inclination towards evil, so many terrible machinations may be set. Without even drawing a sword, you could destroy the entire world with a few words. I've seen two...no, three civilizations fall because someone misused their knowledge. All you would have to do is whisper them in the right ears. I don't think that's the answer, Leonart."
