Like I said, its an old calculator, they changed it at one point so you don't get certs at br6, 12, 18 and get those 3 at the start now, as you get implant slots at those stages.Espion41 said:That calculator is wrong, you have 7 cert points at BR1
Your first 7 days after making any new character gives you a grace period where there is no timer, you can change them at will to get a feeling of what you want from that toon.Ringwraith said:I know it wasn't a great comparison, but that's probably the closest game I've played to it, I knew what I meant when I typed it (my inherent problem, I knew what I meant, no-one else would), but I know about the cert system (ish, all wiki-based here), and how flexible it is to suit pretty much any playstyle, and BF also has capture points (though PS ones require hacking and have other features).BigDrockPS said:Not at all similar. There are certification points that you recieve to start and then get when you achieve new levels. These points can be put into any cert you choose, therefore making you more then just a medic or just an engy. You can cert both medical and engy and anything else you choose similtaniously, inturn making you more versitle then having to be just theteams medic. If you want to play a support character, then you are able to have things like advanced medic(rez), engy (several types of engy are avaliable), vehicles (AMS aka mobile spawn point), etc. If you want to be a grunt then you get heavy assault, anti vehicular weapons, special assault, and vehicles to compliment that style like several air vehicles or tanks, reinforced armor, and then also can carry basic or advanced adv engy or med to heal and repair yourself or others. Then of course there is a combination of all these, plus more things, to hybrid your style however you may choose.Ringwraith said:Yeah I suppose that is nice, nothing sucks more than getting stomped on by high-levels repeatedly, it mostly comes down to skill and tactics after all, so anyone can beat anyone else. Now if I manage to play it and enjoy it (though I'm probably quite likely to, enjoy it that is) I may be tempted into a subscription... or wait until they start the Reserves thing up again and join for a more lengthy period of time, so I can give it a fairer trial.
It also sounds a little little like BF1942 (haven't played any of the others except Vietnam) with soldiers, medics and engineers running around, though you're are given quite a lot of flexibility in what direction you want to go. Medics and engineers were always my favourite in BF, (medics so I solo creep into a base crawling with AI bots and heal up indefinitely, and engineers so I could go out on extended vehicle trips, particularly with my 'jeep of death' driving).
Anyway, I was meaning I'm quite likely to go the medic/assault route, as there are already quite a lot of engineers about (from what I've read) and engineers are better with vehicle certs as repairing your own vehicle is a huge plus. Anyway, most of this will probably be blown out of the water when you finally start toying with all the options available (and the 6 hour refund is a such a good idea, as you can try everything out without fear of being locked into something, you can even completely rebuild your entire character with it). So forward planning is fairly pointless, I'll just go with what I think works/like/am best at and most importantly: have the most fun with.
I agree. They do it because it is an Outfit (Clan/Guild) based game, for the most part, and you sometimes need people to fill certian roles on short notice. It is also a MMO and most MMO's are too elaberate to lock someone into certain choices.Ringwraith said:The 7 day thing is even better, though you could use the 6-hour refund to rebuild your character if you wanted a change and you weren't going to be playing for a while (just log in, dump the cert, log out again, repeat as often as possible).
Still, I'd have to actually play the game before I started any planning... and I run of a sort of almost haphazard development with most things anyway (just check stuff as you go along, some of the best combos can turn out that way, mostly by chance), it's also good with PS as you can simply refund your certs if you don't like it.
That would suck. The only machine that has a graphics card in immediate reach is Vista laptop. >:|Spinwhiz said:I tend to agree with you. I'm going to test it on my comp this weekend and report but from what I've been told, Planetside doesn't run to well on Vista.BigDrockPS said:I would not recommend using Vista at all for this game, even if Sony says it will work. This is a DX8 game and Vista does not support DX8. An Example is, I can get upwards of 500-1000 fps in sanctuary with XP and get a max of 30-40 with Vista. Once you go into a large scale battle, Vista will struggle so much that your high end computer will be giving you 10-15 fps at most. I would HIGHLY recommend installing XP on a partition or however you choose to do it, if you want to play Planetside.[Spinwhiz said:For all of you that may be using VISTA http://forums.station.sony.com/ps/posts/list.m?topic_id=88000012599

XDT? I recognise your name, were you a Werner player?Checowsky said:Well this is annoying, been coming here and reading the articles for some time then Yahtzee popped up and I've been enjoying that and then suddenly Planetside advertising. I nearly died from shock, SOE putting in effort to promote Planetside is shock.
I'm a 4 year Vet of PS, 80'000 kills or so many top level chars and in the Outfit which won the Outfit wars. I'm guessing this will be like the Outfit Wars, you will be dumped on Old Oshur. That was a cont which was taken off the game but is still on the servers so devs can pull you one by one over to it like they did for the outfit wars. Shame I'm at Uni now else I'd have signed up but PS is blocked at Uni so I'm shtuck, pain really miss that game.
Same here. Still, we have to win first, no? Heh.AntiAntagonist said:That would suck. the winners get one month for free.sv93 said:I hope I get chosen, I've heard Planetside War is a fun game. It'd be pretty sweet to get a game for free for, and I'm just guessing, 14 days. Or is the membership permanent?
