Hmmm, I haven't gotten high as a kite playing my favorite games. Maybe my dosage is too low. Or maybe this is complete BS.

The kid plays Call of Duty 4 or MW2. That pretty much sums it up right there, he's not addicted, he's mentally unstable.
The online community for MW 2 are just fucking psycopaths, and they really shouldn't be playing a game like Call of Duty.
Or... Pretty much this.

You'll probably going to lynch me for this but it does make a *few* fair points. Video games probably has attributed to obesity, but not to the extent they're suggesting. And there are extreme cases like the example given in the article.

But I'm sick of video games becoming a folk devil for the 'evils' of youth today. I've played games for about 10 years of my life, constantly, because I live in a village of less than 300 people with about 250 of them being over the age of 60, and although I'm annoying to my friends (because I love them), not only have I *never* been violent towards anyone in my life but I also have never felt the need to go out and do extreme sports after playing video games.

I've given up trying to convince the world otherwise about video games. They just seem too stubborn to accept anything but the extremist facts.

some how i bet they have never even played pac man. Plus, would you rather have your childern playing video games than snorting Real Coke?

It says it can lead to obesity, I thought eating crap and not exersizing did that? So even if you eat healthy and exersize, playing xbox/ps3 for 2 hours will turn you fat?

OH! and heres an old one, why are children playing games that drive them to do violent things in the first place? I think the fault is on the parents buying the games? Dont you?

Therapist is a Cretin, Says Scumofsociety!

Bullshit local paper with a circulation of 20 comes up with scare story to boost sales to worried mums! Full story in our late edition, only £4.99!!!!!

If games gave the same high as a line of coke I'd never stop playing. I've done a lot of coke, I've done a lot of crack and I've done a lot of Heroin and playing video games is absolutely nothing like any of them.

Anything that you do that you enjoy can become habit forming. Sitting on your ass all day playing games isn't exactly great for your health, but then it's no worse than simply sitting on your ass doing nothing. Games to get kids pumped up without releasing any energy so it's no wonder they get a bit hyper or agressive, they have excess energy to burn off.

Fuck no.
I know gamers, and sadly, I know people on crack.

Like HELL it is the same thing. If it were, I would hate video games with all my capacity for hate. This kind of sentiment makes people not take real drug problems seriously.
EXACTLY! People who are addicted so cigarettes sure aren't smoking because they think it tastes good. They smoke because they NEED to, they can't not smoke. Gaming is completely opposite, People play because it's fun. And if I got to a point where I was just gaming because I HAD to I would throw my PC and console out the window right then and there.

Guess this Therapist has never played two hours of a really, really shitty game.

If anything, this is just proof that Therapy is bullshit and these quacks get paid to talk out thier asses about things they have no fucking clue about in order to pander to the masses.

"Even professional athletes are struggling with the negative affects of gaming addiction. "Many footballers are playing on hand-held consoles and computer games before a game and this is resulting in a natural high which is causing a chemical imbalance which is leading to them not performing their best on the pitch," Pope explained. "I am the psychotherapist...""

Ha, trying to validate a ridiculous statement with a new logic line that gives you some level of status? Nice play.
But what the hell are you talking about? I can quit whenever I want, I just don't want to.

Been gaming since i was a child, done a number of drugs including cigarettes, tell you what addiction requires withdrawl, euphoria, and a incessant need or craving for something.

have i gamed for 18 20hrs straight? sure was i high while gaming 20 hours straight, well not because of the game i can tell you that. Yea i marathon played mass effect 2 and metal gear solid 4 and other great games, because they are awsome sauce. Not because i was pumping out endorphins and adrenlin in massive quantities to the point i was physically high.

Can games be mentally addictive? sure. so can chocolate, pizza, booze, mj, many prescribed drugs, exercise, etc. Healthy and non healthy activities can be mentally addictive to the point they are harmful.

This guy need to put his degree back on the cracker jack box where he got it.

Yet another foundless claim by idiots who hate videogames.

Videogames are no where near as addictive as coke, and even if they where, videogames are far less dangerous...
Totally, I played Burnout Paradise and Fallout 3 for 300 hours each. If I did coke for that long over the same period I'm pretty sure I'd be broke and dead.
As it is I've spent 40 quid and have two Platinum Trophies.

Verdict: Not the same.
