I used to think vampires were the most epic mythical creatures ever.Until twilight got popular and ruined them.
Vampires are now everywhere and they're not the cool type.They're the idiotic emo vampires who have nothing better to do than sneaking into houses and watching teenage girls sleep.(That actually happened in twilight.)and sparkle when they get exposed to light.If you've tried to go to a bookstore since twilight came out you will notice that bad vampire novels make up most of the store and the good books are in storage in the back of the store.The worst part:the movies that caused all of this are crap.There are way better movies to watch(Any other movie).I'm just happy that vampire games don't sell well haven't invaded gaming yet.
My point is that unless people stop supporting this crap the image of cool vampires like Blade and Dracula will be replaced by emo teenagers who take their shirts off at unnecessary times.

Meh, if I want to experience cool vampire culture, I play Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Best damn vampire game out there, and set in urban fantasy which very rarely happens in video games.

Alright, so maybe he isn't proving you wrong, but he's certainly showing that the modern take on Vampires can certainly be used in thought-provoking and intriguing stories.

These "cool" vampires you speak of are just as, if not more shallow than Twilight vampires. Since the modern take on vampires has proved to me that it is capable of more intriguing vampires than the slightly older one, I'm supporting that one.

The thing is, vampires don't actually exist. No one owns the idea of a vampire, it is not under copyright, therefore, it can be changed and manipulated. I'm pretty sure the only ablility one needs to actually be classified as a vampire is that they drink blood. (I think.) If I recall, the vampires from Twilight do drink blood.

There are plenty of emo teenager books about demons, about angels, about monsters, about lots of things, including just normal, emo teenagers. I think that it is important to remember that most teenagers are total tools and over the top (This coming from a teenager.) and that is what those movies depict. Add that to the fact that you got to watch everyone you love die, that you steal life so that you can live your own, that you can only come out at night (In some cases) and I would be feeling pretty blue, too.

I digress. Just remember that vampires are not owned by anyone, therefore, they can be shaped differently from different author's imagenations.

By the way, one of the things I've learned on this site is to be tolerant of what other people like, no matter what it is, or how much I don't like it. (Things like being a racist/sexist, etc excluded) Why is it that things like Twilight, Justin Bieber, and other mainstream culture are given a free pass to slander, when those same people so readily defend their 'nerd' culture, and cry foul when someone insults their Silent Hills or their Portals for not being as entertaining as what they like. I've learned things like how I should never look twice at cross dressing, at feminine characteristics in guys, at bisexuality, etc, as anything except a choice that someone made to be who they are. Why are we giving people such a hard time who choose to be who they are by liking Twilight, or Justin Bieber, or anything else, just because we disagree with it? I'm not a Saint myself with these kinds of things, but I still feel sort of defensive when it comes to threads like this (No offense OP. This is just as much about other threads dissing mainstream culture as it is about this one) that complain about things they don't even need to be paying attention to.

I've seen how people here are proud of what they like. We should let other people be proud of liking Twilight/Bieber/other mainstream culture as well.

Vampires were ruined to me way before Twilight, that was just another low blow is all. Here's how I view it, and its just personal opinion so no need to flame.

To me vampires got ruined because of Anne Rice. Now as far as I think she wrote great books that were made into good movies. But because of her vamps got too populare too fast. And then the entertainment industry (mostly movies) does what it always does with something like that. It takes a hold of it and grinds it to the bone for all they can gain from the fans. Remember in the late 1990s early 2000s all the vampire movies? Sure they were around before then, but the number of them just went up extreamly. Our society got overrun and saturated with vampire things. But whats gone wrong with them is how they have been trying to make them as relateable characters to connect with, taking the monster out of them and makeing them not only just more human, but more of a romantic fantasy. Thats what brought about Twilight, its not what made vampires bad, its just the latest nail in their coffins of ruining them for most. I don't want to blame Anne Rice for the downfall of vampires, but she did such a great job with them that her fan base grew to much, reaching into all the groups and cultures of our society and so hollywood saw that love for vampires and ran with it. And we are still seeing that after effect today. So many of the younger vampire fans think that how they are shown in today's movies and other media is how they are suppose to be. So of course we can't change their minds or opinions to show them the older version of vampires that many of us grew up with. You can't blame them for buying into the romantic fantasy being dished to the younger ones. But I can blame the entertainment industry, writers and movie makers mostly, for dishing this version of them out and feeding it to people. They want a romantic fantasy character to dream on fine, there are plenty of ways to do that, even with vampires, but the constant tearing down of the monster side of it into just a 'gothic supernatural human' and labeling it a vampire isn't right.

Did you like Daybreakers? I thought it was pretty cool...cheesy at times, but overall worth-watching.

I haven't, but I've been meaning to watch it, as many people I know have been recommending it.

I simply refuse to acknowledge the twilight series even exists (aside from this post). It helps to stop me enraging over the complete bullshit mythology people will swallow down just because the main lead makes little girls wanna marry him.

Look for 30 Days of Night, thats a pretty cool vampire flick. Lots of gorey stuff too.

As long as we remember Dracula and Nosferatu we can always proudly say "We saw the vampires before they turned into pathetic wankers, and nobody can take that away from us." and I've pretty much avoided the hole twilight shit and everything includeing vampires after 2000 so I still like them but it's still a pretty beat up love that are loosing it's grip but I'm still holding on.
