It seems someone didn't like my earlier post and I got reported QQ to them.

I would like to know which part of my earlier post was offensive. I wasn't rude to anyone or The Escapist. I provided constructive criticism. I provided justification for my content. Now giving warnings for low-content/douche-baggy posts - fine good (even)! But I would like to know WHERE in my post that was particularly offensive...

As you may have guessed, being reported so many times +10 in under an hour will give the mods a little message telling them to check out your post. Then they see that you said that you run an ad-blocker and they click +1 for warning and move onto more stuff to do. Brilliant system, especially when the mods don't even read some of the stuff they warn/prob

I hate ads. I don't watch them on TV, I don't watch them on the internet. As soon as I see an ad on YouTube, I find another video of same content without an ad. They are a nuisance and I couldn't care less if all of Escapist income comes from ads. They are annoying and I won't torture myself with ads so some internet site could get a few extra bucks. Their finances are not my problem.

What do those few extra bucks do? They keep this site running. What do you think the money is for? How else are the people that work for the site to get paid?

They aren't doing this for free. It's like if you went to a grocery store and got a cart full of food and then left without paying because you think that they are greedy and want to make money for no reason. The Escapist needs the money to keep the site running and to live on as well.

Do you think they do this, while they do what you might call a regular job to make money, and do it for free?

So really, you don't care that this site goes under and everybody that works to keep it together, loses there jobs? I guess not, you will probably say that it doesn't matter because you will just move on to a new site. But here in lies the problem, with all the apathy to such situations, it will happen to the next site you go to, and then the next, and the next, as long as they are sites that are only held together by ad revenue.

The way people are acting, you would think that the big wigs of the Escapist are swimming in pools full of money and burning money with lighters in front of their contributors that say they haven't been paid yet.

This whole situation is a bunch of bull, and I am sorry that the good people at the Escapist family have to deal the ungrateful thing.

Their paid per web hit, basically, they don't have to be clicked, just generated onto your page, for lack of a better word, and why not? I'm asking, why don't you? I can understand having it off on a site to where your not on frequently, but I know your on frequently [saw you on several OTHER threads, I think I replied to you once before] Escapist, as long as I've been on, hasn't re linked me to a malware site, or create pop ups, if you really are OK with people not getting a complete pay check at the end of the day, and your site hurting for cash, then why be here, since I'm not going to go any further, read the man below mes post.

You seriously haven't noticed all the posts complaining about the ads since about the beginning of the year? Oh, look you haven't been here... I think you should take a moment to do a forum search. Yea, it is a crappy search mechanism but I am certain you will find more than a few threads with "ads" in the title. You would find more if you could search for "ad". Anything with Meebo would be good too. Don't think for a second that people haven't been voicing their opinions, this is a forum for that. Results won't include threads that they happened to remove either.

Here is another bit of info, you really need to actually click on those ads to get money to the Escapist. Just letting them run isn't enough. As far as stats are concerned even the ABP users are shown as letting the ads run. So they are doing the exact some thing you are. Revenue beyond the purchasing of the ad space is only generated if you click, click, click. Since you are so into them you should probably take a moment to find out how they really work. I hope you have a decent malware blocker. I suggest MBAM.

I haven't published anything yet, but what I was getting at is that I fear those types of people that believe that they should be able to read what I write with out paying for the work I did.

Did you think I was attacking you, I wasn't. Unless I misinterpreted why you asked what book I have written. I usually get responses full of bad attitudes when I say such things, ideas that people shouldn't be entitled to certain things.

Heard about it, its what sparked this thread, I'm assuming the Escapist is just scrapped for cash, so I created a thread asking if people could uninstall it, that way Escapists gets more money and possibility of them not having to leave being increased.

The majority of ad revenue from banner ads and whatnot actually come from people clicking on the ads. So unless you do that, blocking them is going to have a negligible effect on The Escapist's income.

And I've been saying this in almost every topic that's come up in regards to this subject, but The Escapist needs better financial management. They get new shows and they hire new people when they can't even afford to pay the people they already have. How does that make any sense at all? Why bother hiring another news writer if you can't afford them?

I've got Escapist on my exceptions list, that's the best you're going to get. As far as I'm concerned ad-block is just basic self-defense and flat out necessary for some sites. Generally I'd prefer to subscribe but a lot of the time subscribers are used as a bit of a cash-cow, not just paying their own way but also for a huge whack of other people too.

Learn something everyday. Apparently I got a warning because I 'advocated' ad-blocking (and admitted to it). So people, don't say nice things about them!

OT - I agree, clicking the ads makes cash, not displaying them. So therefor how to make more people click ads?

I am under the belief that the escapist gets payed for putting the add in that location rather then how many people see it without add blocker.

I don't use ad blockers, but I've had it with this site.
1. Insane amount of ads.
2. Captchas to block bots that I've never even seen anyway, and the only way to get rid of them is to pay money to visit a website?
3. Changing to captchas that force you to watch an ad in order to post every 3-4 times you post.
4. Ads that have VIRUSES in them (yes, not to long ago my virus scan was going off every time I came here).
5. Now the whole Extra Credits thing.

I've pointed this out previously, watching that ad gives money to the shows that YOU are watching or reading, and keeps these forums up to standard, would you rather not have these shows have gotten off the ground they did, and be hired by a company, gaining fans and being paid so they can continue to make people happy, and to make people enjoy life more? Think about this, if you worked for this company, and if half [about HALF of the people are using ad blocker, just go with it] are not viewing ads, and lets say you get 100$ per ad played on a computer, this means that, oh, I don't know, 40,000$ are NOT being paid to people within the company that need it to live daily, how would you like it.

Before I say anything else, 100 dollars per ad per person? Each ad may have a 1% chance of actually influencing a person to buy a product. The profit from each influenced could be, let's say 20 dollars. You are then spending 100 dollars for a 1% chance of gaining 20 dollars, or 10 000 dollars to gain 20 dollars. That is a 9980 dollar deficit. I may have misunderstood you, but that just seems ridiculous. The revenue generation from each ad is much smaller than you think.

And now I say what I was going to say. That groups of people need ads to support their generation of use-value is moronic to start with. I refuse to argue within the confines of an unjust and impractical society.

An ad-blocker usually makes no difference to the money made from advertisements, this thread is bullshit. Companies open advertising space on their websites and then advertisers pay that company in order to display their ad's. If people click on the advertisements, the escapist gets a little more money. That's how it works on most websites, don't listen to this crap people.

Ok, I'll get this right off the bat, it was an example, exagerated, but still an example. Does it matter how, overly exagerated of an example it is, and I didn't know the numbers, I knew it was hurting, anyways, thanks for the point out of my exageration.
