Plot Holes [Possible Spoilers!]

I never understood why in District 9 the aliens were such wimps and never fought back against their human oppressors, despite the fact they had a gi-normous ship (which undoubtedly would be filled with totally awesome alien technology), far better weapons (despite looking like fancy Nerf guns), and they were extremely strong and agile - and there was apparently A QUARTER OF A MILLION OF THEM.

There is an answer to that, but unfortunately it just opens another holes

It is implied throughout the movie that just about every living prawn on earth was a "worker" or "drone", while the more intelligent aliens seemed to have died prior to the arrival on earth (with the exception of at least Christopher). For one thing, they may be just too "dumb" to use their weapons (although that is not likely, since you see prawns using human weapons and even one commanding one of the mechs).
More likely all the aliens are used to have a strict, insect-like chain of command, and as thier "leaders" died, they were very confused and frightened and pretty much unable to do a bit of thinking of their own, so they are easily ordered around by the seemingly helpful humans...

But i'd like to add a bit of my own theory

First off, as said, the Humans USED to be helpful and nice to the aliens at first. And since the aliens have no idea about anything regarding earth, they just know what the humans allowed them to see. And the aliens were probably too grateful and naive to start to think about how they can make themselves autonomous. So as the humans became more abusive, the aliens were pretty much completely dependent on their new Human Overlords (*g*)
And second, so yes, there are a quarter million aliens with awesome, powerful weapons. That still does not make them invincible. They don't have impenetrable shields or something, so the first thing the humans probably do when the aliens start to turn against them is to blow them away with a few bombers. Since the humans outnumber the aliens by far, and since the aliens are stored conveniently at one place, a "prawn resistance" would hardly survive for a month

I think that was because the planet is called a "shield world" it was supposed to allow the forerunner to survive the halos, but the flood got there before the halos were used and infected the planet, and when the covenant went in for the forerunner ships and the humans followed them, the flood managed to escape.

I have to disagree with a lot of what you said dude.

No one said the alliance wasn't necessary but it was Luke who made the difference. No one else could avoid Vader's fire for so long, no one else could hit the target, and furthermore without Luke Han would not have been there at all to save the day.

This is entirely untrue. Obi-wan was a low ranking member of the council and ranked about 5th in lightsaber skills. He is in NO way the second best master.

Again, that wasn't the point of the Death Star. The death star was a part of the "Tarkin Doctrine" which states that you blow up one planet, you won't have to blow up another. Additionally I think you are overestimating the hate. Most humans throughout the galaxy loved the guy as he catered to their needs. There were a few planets like Alderaan who hated him on principle but that's really about it. There were very few non-humans in the Imperial Army and MOST of the rebel alliance consisted of Aliens.

I have two words that will help any of you understand glaring plot holes:

Bad Writing.

A good writer thinks out such things as character motivations, plot twists, complications, etc, etc. A bad one... well, that's where you get Twilight and the Star Wars prequels. Bad writing is something everyone can spot, even if they have haven't gotten some otherwise useless literature degree. You know it when you see it, because something will just strike you as WHA-HuuuUUUH?

So there you go.

Damn eagles too busy off cleaning their feathers for most of the story.

Tolkien answered this question in a letter after the story was published. He said that other than the obvious dramatic issues, he didn't want majestic eagles to be relegated to a "Middle Earth taxi service."
Also, even though orcs aren't the smartest soldiers ever, they would notice a huge 20 ft eagle and shoot at them. The whole plan was based on secrecy and deception, something eagles lack. It is also implied that they can be corrupted. It may be difficult for the Ring to have an effect, but it is possible.
What is worse: A corrupted Hobbit, or a massive flying, razor clawed death machine?

In The Terminator Kyle says that the time displacement device would ony allow living matter to go back in time. The T-101 is a machine surrouded by living tissue so it's able to enter. But the T-1000 from T2 is pure metal so what the hell went wrong there.

I've not read the books, but heard enough about about this paticular plothole to want an explanation.

The way I understood it, he was still fertile, it just the females become sterile. Their bodies can't change in the way a pregnancy would require. The males, however, could still feasibly produce viable sperm. They have to replenish venom and process nourishment, so some biological activity still must be going on. Since this is a fantasy style novel, there is no reason to assume it is impossible.

I think its because they were meant to be a population consisting entirely of "idiots" or at the very least, completely uneducated "slightly feral" creatures.

So Shepard was just making a bid for power. The Russians did invade Washington, and the presidential bunker did get raped, and we dunno what happened to the president. I figure it was more about power than patrotism.

I think they really should have spent more time ACTUALLY SAYING that the ultra nationalists REALLY wanted war with America BEFORE the terrorist incident, and the fact a CIA operative was found dead with a bunch victims gave them the excuse that "america must have tried to use this incident to "start some other kind of war/ insert ulterior motive here/destabilize russia again".

Also, I'm not so sure if it was about POWER or just about him thinking he was "fixing" his country. His big speech about the world just "watching" whilst his army got nuked, and that "tomorrow there will be no shortage of patriots" tells me that it was more about trying to replace the current, sort of jaded outlook on america with that of heroic warfare...

Which could still be about power anyway. The story could have been really good, if it was a film, and it was a complex twisting political/ action thriller, but it is also a game. They just simply couldnt fit that much story in along with all the rest of crap they crammed in.

Having said that, it did PLAY like a film, and I really enjoyed it. Just a shame that they made the story slightly confusing unless you really reflect on it.

How is it that a sizeable portion of the alien craft (the command module at the end of the film) fell of it as the ship arrived over J'burg, crashed to the ground and was buried without a trace before the first refugee camp was built directly on top of it, and no-one noticed? Errr, yeah. You'd think something that huge crashing down would leave a crater. That people might notice when they came to put the tents up and hand out food.
