Who said anything about the show? I sure didn't. I'm talking about the games, the thing the show was based on. In the latest installments, Black and White, we have a whole slew of material that definitely is not fit for kids. Vengeful spirits that go around murdering people for no apparent reason other than the fact that they can.
Let's not forget about Diamond and Pearl, those games were just G-rated cosmic horror stories with a little bit of omnicide, terrorism, and implied murder thrown in.
The show is definitely meant to be kid friendly, there is no doubt about that. The plot is incredibly simple, boy wants to be the best, trio of bad guys interfere occasionally. There really isn't any subtext, and there aren't any moments that could be considered adult (other than the onscreen death of J, of course.)
And, again, my apologies for the late reply. I suppose I would sound like someone who's way into Pokemon, I've played since Red/Blue.
Nicely done, but nothing new - from Mario, to Zelda, to Pokémon, to Donkey Kong... All of Nintendo's kiddy franchises with a high surreality factor have been through this at one point or another. Be it as a comic, single piece of artwork, fan-made movie, whatever. Jokes about mario's 'shrooms', Link going through all the trouble and never 'getting any' from the princess, etc.
Kind of goes to show that maybe, just maybe, Nintendo should start playing a little less 'safe' and do something, i don't know, more mature? I mean, the only thing I can think of is Metroid, and even then...

I actually met the guy who produced and acted in this (he was Brock). He showed us the trailer on his iPhone, as a few friends and I had run into him on a crowded bus full of drunk people in the middle of this past Summer. It was Saturday, August 13th, and I remember because, at the time, I was in downtown Vancouver, on a bus full of people singing "I Believe I Can Fly", and I was in full on Pyramid Head garb.
Apparently, he was part of a group of people that had spent months putting together this trailer for the purpose of showing it at a local anime convention. They'd rented out space and time to play it during one of the panels, but had both run out of time and the technical resources required to play it. True, it was hard as hell to hear anything while on this bus, but I take immense pride in the fact that I was one of the first people to see this.
We talked for a while, and he was telling us that, regardless of the fact that it's kind of a parody of Pokemon, all of the acting was really emotional, really well done, and that all of the actors were fantastic. The entire project was regarded as a very serious character study, and because of the fact that all of their dialogue is delivered with complete seriousness, at one point, Ash and Misty engage in loving embrace, and Ash utters those fateful words: "I choose you.", it's only made better.

I remember the animated film and I thought throughout it that he was pretty brutal in relation to the rest of the stories they've done.

Not everything needs to be made dark a gritty to be good. I for one am happy that this movie will not be made as I never want to see pokemon in that light ever again.
it would be cool if it was professionally done, although this trailer suffers from a terminal case of horrid acting, but hey, they aren't pros for a reason right?
Holy F#cking Sh!t on a sandwich! I WOULD PAY THE FULL PRICE OF A 3D MOVIE FOR THIS IF IT CAME OUT.
