Mmhm, and where did the legal gun owners get their guns from?

I don't understand what this question has to do with anything. They got them from a sporting goods store or a private owner, etc. What's the point? It's still legal.
Yes, but if criminals don't use guns they buy, and legal gun owners don't kill people, surely that means removing legal gun owners from the equation would mean that criminals couldn't get guns, and therefore the legal owners would not need them for protection. Right?
Ah, OK I see where you're going. That's true, but I know I don't use guns for protection. I know recreation can't take precedence over safety, but I like to hunt, trap shoot, and target shoot. I only question the fairness of taking away peoples "pursuit of happiness" (I know this is a little stretch) by taking guns away.

Also, stealing from legal owners isn't the only place criminals get guns. There is an explosive illegal gun trade of old police and military weapons that would still exist even if you eliminated legal private ownership.

Oh right, I thought you were arguing from the point of view that "Its my right to own a gun so I'm going to do it."

Even if he DID point a gun at the police, that's no reason to shoot him in the torso, is it? The leg should be enough...
I'm sorry, but I agree with the others. This isn't like in the movies, where a guy with a pistol is capable of shooting the thumb off of a criminal with a gun. Trust me, my dad IS a cop. They teach you to shoot at the torso when confronted with an armed suspect pointing a gun at you. It is a big target, meaning that you have less of a chance to miss. The fact is that, in this situation, you don't have the time to aim at a specific, smaller, harder to hit body part. What if the police missed his legs and got shot themselves? They are taught to aim for the torso because they have the highest chance of hitting. Police don't get special forces grade military training, the average cop isn't capable of doing such a thing in that situation, and even highly trained soldiers are taught to aim for the torso in such a situation. Just because they are trained how to use firearms doesn't make them Marine Scout Snipers.

Frankly, I get tired of people who probably don't even know where the bullets come out of on a gun try and say that the cops should have done this or that, that they should have "shot him in the leg instead of aiming for the torso." Just because you see cops capable of hitting a criminal in the leg with perfect accuracy in the movies and on TV does NOT mean that it is like that in real life, and indeed shows that you are very ignorant of how this stuff works in the real world. Like the people who don't understand that you can't get all the evidence you need from a crime scene by flashing around the magic light like on TV.

This article clearly shows how desperate people are becoming for non-essential things, such as an xbox. It is just sad when people pull out guns to get gaming systems.
It's just the "Ghetto" subculture. While they claim to be tough and not need anything, they are really decadent and will, depending on the person in question, either make terrible misjudgments like thinking they can take on a group of cops, or run if the odds are worse than 6 on their side against one.

Valid point. Should have bought a knife instead, Police don't shoot at you for pointing knives at them

Believe it or not, the typical police officer isn't John Marston.

I know plenty of law abiding citizens that would never turn over their personal weapons to the government, it's their right to own one if they want, why should they give that up? I know I wouldn't.

This has nothing to do with the Xbox theft and everything to do with the fact he pointed a gun at the police. Mistake.
Bingo!

Still, why the fuck would you pull a gun on someone for a 360?
More importantly, why the fuck would you pull a gun on the police who came to arrest you for stealing a 360?!

Brandon Winn?

More like Brandon Fail.

Seriously though, what did he think would happen if he pointed a gun at the Police who were there to arrest him for armed robbery?

It is tragic that someone got shot, in a roundabout was, because of the desire for an X-Box.
It's also sad that the Police Officer who shot him was put in he position where he had to shoot in the first place. I know that there's a Hollywood stereotype of gun-ho cops, but nobody wants to have to shoot someone over a simple arrest like that, let alone a kid.

Winn's mother, Debra, told our partners at the Denver Post police shot and killed the wrong man. She says police then told her varying stories of what led to her son's death.
It will be interesting to see if there's any more to this claim & how it plays out. It could just be a grieving mother not coming to terms that her son wasn't an angel & wanting to blame someone else, or there could be more to the story than originally reported.

Who knows, it might not have been a clean shooting, which makes it all the more tragic.
I think the fact that the kid they shot pulled out a gun points towards that kid being Winn. Unless it was a different criminal, but that's unlikely.

I'm waiting for the time when somebody comes forward and blames videogames for this.

I'm curious as to why he raised a weapon towards the police in the first place; My first guess would be that he already would have been arrested for something else instead, he WAS 18 which is a legal adult and that means he doesn't get to enjoy a stay at his local Juvenile Hall.

When a fellow officer's life is at stake I doubt the officer would be taking the chance with the harder part to hit.
Good work on the officer, the dumbass got what he deserved for being so stupid, seriously who points a gun at police who are far better armed and very happy to use them.
