Poll: A question for Escapist readers from the UK.

In sports I will NEVER support England, in the Olympics I will support Welsh, Scottish and Irish athletes but I will not support one English Athlete.

Nope I am just sick of having 1966 thrown up everytime England play, I am sick of having any sports success by Wales, Scotland and Ireland being relegated to the inside back pages of the Newspapers so that England can be put on the back pages, I am sick of seing that racist bigoted Carlsberg "How to be an England Fan Advert" being shown every 5 minutes, hearing "Three Lions" or "Noble England" by Rik Mayall being played constently on the Radio, how would you feel if everything you seen in the Newspapers/TV or heard on the Newspapers was always only about Wales or Scotland.

It's funny you say that because I live in Scotland and everything sports related is about Scotland. The newspapers always point out when something is Scottish, I don't care. I just think "why does it matter what nationality it/they is?" I see myself as British and wish the few people that want independence could see themselves as British too.

Hate to break this to you, but England are the only one of the Home Nations that consistently do well at sports, that's why they get more coverage. In the only sport where that isn't the case, Rugby, the coverage is equal.

I think you will find in Rugby Wales have a significant advantage, 2011 6 Nations Championship Winners (Grand Slam winners as well, 4th place in the Rugby World Cup ( we would have won it if the French had not cheated and had a French Referee in charge of the game(nothing was done about if it had happened to England would have been reported all over the World))

There's nothing wrong with a bit of home nations rivalry, the reason I said you were bigoted is because you said you'd cheer on everyone but the English. The English support British athletes during the Olympics, a lot of those athletes are Scottish and welsh.

If you really want to go that route then we are all African. Listen I get that you don't like us, but it's not our fault. You seem to be frustrated about seeing England everywhere and to you it looks like we have all the power. But we're in the same position as you, albeit a little further west I mean the other west err... you know, east. The point is this United Kingdom is comprised of England, Scotland, Wales and Northen Ireland. We all get a say about how things are run, that is the point of a democracy after all, if you don't like something then complain about it to your MP.

I think that we get more coverage because culturally we've had a bigger impact, not only here, but on the whole world. It's a similar thing with the USA. They, in the recent past and now still, have a very big impact culturally on the rest of the world. Everybody knows about the USA, hell I know more about it's government than my own (Is that bad?). The reason we have a higher amount of MPs is because proportionally we have the most people and the government should reflect those that it governs. So naturally we will have a higher amount of MPs than Wales or Scotland or Northen Ireland.

The point is we need each other, if we don't stay together we will all be weaker for it. I don't mind that you are proud of your Welsh heritage, most people are proud of their country, but that doesn't make any other heritage or country any less valid (On it's own at least).

As to your true British point, considering Britain is made up of the Welsh, Scottish and English then the only TRUE British are the WELSH, SCOTTISH AND ENGLISH.

Sometimes I wish more people would remember the United part in United Kingdom.

How many English people do you know? Because everyone I know was supporting Wales. Same for the World Cup after England got knocked out. And you would not be a bigot if you shouted "WEYELS", as Lolige pointed out, saying you'd support everyone but the English makes you a bigot.

The children don't speak welsh, yet they are being taught in welsh, and the parents, who also don't speak welsh and have no desire for their children to, have no recourse.
