Hell yeah I'm getting one! In a few years!

I'm patient and can wait for it and the games to go down in price before I buy them, if I really want it I'll wait til Christmas sales even though it's a year away. It's not like it's going anywhere.

The only interesting one for me is Resident Evil Revelations (please take note that I'm not a Resident Evil fan, and will probably wait a while to get a copy of the game if it's proven to be worthwhile), but it's also coming to PC, so no, I'm not interested in the Wii U.

Nope, not even remotely interested in any of those games. Zombie U really hooked my interest, but from what I've read it is a pretty flawed game and even if it wasn't I'm not going to buy a console for one game (well, expect the time I bought an N64 for Goldeneye). I have a PC and that does me fine for work and games, I'm not enough of a gamer to feel the need to buy a console as well.

Almost all of them since they have identical button layouts.
Thanks for that, I was hoping for it.

I'm going to make sure every thing is clear before I purchase a Wii U, but I'll most likely wait till some more games are released.
Not a problem, Blunty did a rather in depth review of the system as a whole including the launch line up, the controllers, how it all felt to use, etc, that I found rather informative and helpful, here's the first part: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45Ai0P-ui40

Should help to clear things up for you it did for me. The lack of analog triggers is bizarre but hardly a big issue when they're only really helpful for racing sims. I'm sold on it tbh, there's a bunch of games I already want and tonnes on the horizon so I'm up for it.

Oddly a lot of what people seem to dislike about the console seems to be seeping from ignorance about the hardware.
Yeah, actually this system in particular is doing much better than the game cube and Wii as far as the line up goes. Comparatively, the Wii U also has a better line up than either the Xbox 360 or ps3 had back when they were at a similar point in their launch cycle, so all in all it's probably a safe future purchase. Of course, the PS3 and 360 also hit right around the decline of the local video game rental industry and the rise of review insanity, so that probably colors some peoples opinions on the titles available.
The line up is really good for the stage in it's life with a lot of interesting games just over the horizon, honestly it's a good lineup if you ask me the PS3 and 360 had dreadful launch lineups comparitively.

It has all the shit people seem to want like the CODs and AC's of the world, two franchises I have come to lose interest in, but it has platformers. I grew up in the 90's. I like my platformers. As I've said elsewhere there's 10+ games I want already out or coming very soon, so I'll be ordering mine with haste.

But I was more referring to ignorance about the hardware itself, the controller and the options available to players. It reeks of the "let's hate Nintendo" bandwagon and I've seen an increase around The Escapist in "der it's kiddy there's no COD!" type posts, which is something I do not expect on this site. IGN or GameSpot, sure, whatever, but not The Escapist.
That's how things are on the escapist now. Anyway you are right the Ps3 and 360 did indeed have horrible launch lineups.

This can't be anything but sarcasm.
The wii costs 100$.
If you want it to be cheaper good luck, but by that time Xenoblade will cost 200$ used.
It's currently $82.98 used just so you know.
Yes, Xenoblade is a highly desirable game indeed.

Yeah the Wii U launch lineup is pretty solid, especially if you include that stupid "launch window" thing Nintendo harp on about. Peoplea re far too jaded, they're also quite ignorant, claims of no new IP's for the format.

Y'know...
Except ZombiU, The Wonderful 101 and a new RPG from the studio behind Xenoblade (it has fucking mech suits!), not to mention nobody knows what retro ware working on, could be a new IP, could be a really kick ass reboot!

XEnoblade currently has nothing on the Metroid Prime Trilogy, I've heard that goes a fair way over $100 nowadays, just grabbed it for £40 here in the UK.

The WIi has some solid games, but if anybody hopes to pick one up cheap with those games they need to do it now, I've been prowing for stuff I've missed and a fair few games are getting expensive. Both Kirby games now command more than their original RRP, for example.

The escapist has been like this for a long while.
I would say aside from ignorance there is also the "I don't want to try new things" syndrome in which most of these people saying they aren't interested in anything besides one or 2 games. Which I find as a ludicrous statement.
You would have to be a very narrow minded to say that. I mean your interests would have to be very limited.

The games look good but its hard to tell how they will be when they come out. Also I still don't feel the need to buy a new console, their is still a list of ps2 games I want to get too, never mind 2 generations removed form it. I need a new handheld so I might get a 3ds or Vita soon, but I have no interest in any home counsels right now. I mean I still need to finish rayman origins, then get bayonetta, Xenoblade, the frist two pikmans, and kirbys epic yarn. I have plenty of old games that I want to play and it will be years before I'm looking for a new system.
You'll have to get the 3ds because of ace attorney 5.
Oh and it having a large list of games.

Granted these are outdated but vita isn't getting that much support.

Yeah I've noticed it before here but it seems to be reaching fever pitch with the launch of new hardware these days, especially when it's Nintendo hardware, I can kind of understand it with the Vita, because it's a damn expensive system with not much support and some stupid systems forced in by Sony, but the 3DS and Wii U are getting a lot of great support and are relatively inexpensive things (the Wii U is a good £150 cheaper than the PS3 was at launch) with some interesting new tech open to more creative gameplay experiences.

Not to mention that a touch screen is a great thing for games when done right and combined with traditional controls, at the least it can minimise the time you waste faffing with items in menus, and at it's best it gives us games like The World Ends With You....

I want a TWEWY sequel on the Wii U now...

I'm personally fairly optimistic about next gen hardware and I do get excited for it and I'm not afraid to admit that new toys fascinate me. I still remember being blown away by Mario Kart DS back when I got my original brick DS, best Mario Kart ever for me.

Edit: The Escapist is also rampant with people who seem ready to hate things they haven't played, or have watched the cutscenes on youtube, or have played for 10 minutes in the store. That always agitates me, you can't form a reasonable and well rounded opinion of a game in 10 frigging minutes or from watching it online.

Also, 3DS games, Luigi's Mansion 2, all the other first party guff is great fun too, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is fucking brilliant!

There's a game i came a across yesterday called something something 101, that looks fun, and i'm a huge Bayonetta fan, but i also don't like anything else on that system right now.

It's worth noting the 360 launched with about 8 games i wanted to play, with the promise of about 10 more in its near future, that's why i got it.

No games in there that can seduce me to buy a Wii U, to be honest. Outdated hardware, a gimmicky controller system and Nintendo recent practice of just releasing the same old NES games over and over again makes it very hard for me to get exited about this console. It's too bad really, Nintendo used to be one of my favourite developers before all this, I hope they still got it in them to amaze me.

Thanks again. I'll check it out soon. I've already used the controller in store and it's not what I'm looking for. I really dislike having my hands spaced apart so much, and looking down in at the screen is a backwards move when I have a lovely big TV I'd rather look at.

Also, it isn't odd that there are a lot of people who love and hate something before they've even tried it. That's always happened from my experience.
Aye it's worth checking out, honestly I'll use the 80-hour battery life controller Pro for anything that doesn't use the gamepad well or if i'm not playing on just the gamepad.

So say something like Darksiders 2 where alll the menus are on the touch screen and much easier to navigate, I'd use the gamepad, but something like mario bros I'd use the pro controller.

Yeah it's a rampant problem, I can give you first impressions from an hour with a demo, but I can't say a game is utter shit from ten minutes play in a shop.
Thanks for the Youtube link. I've never heard of Blunty before but I like how he explains things.

Just one thing I want to know about the hardware I don't think he brought up. No big deal really, but is it like the Wii that there is only one controller that can be used on the main menu?

Is there any indication that the Monolith game from the trailer will actually be a Xenoblade sequel? I mean from a story perspective, rather than gameplay.

I ask because the parts of the trailer that interested me were the robots that looked suspiciously like Gears and the red X (which actually got me to cheer.) So to me, it looked like a game set in the Xenogears universe, though maybe with a wink and a nudge b/c of trademark issues. But... is it not? Are there indications in the video it's set in the Xenoblade universe instead? Or... is Xenoblade somehow in the Xenogears universe too?

I never played Xenoblade, so I'm not emotionally invested in a new one... but if the game will be a sequel/prequel/whatever to Xenogears itself, holy shit sign me up. (The X was a big thing for me, since I've never seen it used in reference to any of Monolith's other games.)

I like Blunty, tells things how it is and says what he means, posts funny rants sometimes too.

Umm... No I think you can use the pro controller on the menus too, but I'm not 100% on that. I know that one the Wii you can use a pro controller to navigate the interface, so I would assume you can use the pro controller with the Wii U's interface too.

It isn't Xenoblade 2, it's an unamed project by the same studio. Nothing in there says it's a Xenoblade sequel, more a spiritual successor, since the combat looks quite similar apart from the giant robots.

No problem, never played xenogears myself. Best point of reference for Xenoblade is it's like FF12 without the star wars rip off.

Well I already was going to get one, but now I'm even more excited for it!

Before I was most interested in Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate and Pikmin 3, but now the new Xenoblade has captured my interest! I can't wait to hear more about it! I'm also really excited about the new Wind Waker HD, I've played the old one but I never owned it, so this is really exciting for me.

I already own one... I'm a little disappointed at how many people answered no on the poll but then again, the community of the Escapist has never been all that Nintendo friendly.
They really haven't been, have they? It's kinda depressing really. I come here and I see how negative people are and it's really disappointing.
So how do you like your Wii U?
The negativity of the Escapist seems to seep out the woodwork whenever Nintendo are involved in anything good.

Can't wait for when Nintendo wins E3 this year by having actual games and not just showing off weak PC's with brown/grey shooters!

Ordering mine as soon as my redundancy money clears.
