WoW will eventually be beaten. But as others have speculated, it will be by another product of Blizzard's.

What i want to know is why anyone would want wow to "die". I dont like the game myself, but i can easily admit how much it has done for games. Last i heard it had around 11 million subscribers, and i think its been around for 5 years or so? thats insane.

Now take a look at the time and effort that gets put into the MMOs that you prefer to play, and ask yourself why that company decided to pour all that time and money into making it for you.

Like it or not, Wow deserves massive amounts of respect

No, you can't kill WoW it's like the metal!
The metal will live on.

Seriously, I don't care. I reckon if Blade & Soul had a larger reception, it'd blow both of their asses out of the water. The graphics are awesome, the combat is awesome, everything about it is awesome.

Minus the art style, for those of you who want something to complain about.

Calling a game the wow killer is like calling a boat the unsinkable. Its going to sink. Wow is a behemoth of online gaming and wont be toppled. Hell i played it for a while.

The big reason it wont be a WoW killer? WoW is for super casual MMO gamers, and thus can run on the worst of all bad computers/lappys. Aion most certainly will not. Even if most people want to play it, they flat out can't.
Why. Aion's requirements are a joke, a lot lower than, for example, Fallout 3 or WAR or Mass Effect.

Again, you've heard wrong, and you didn't even read the thread.

I highly doubt it will be a so called "WoW Killer" as MMOs don't tend to kill each other off, they kill themselves. It's the typical hype you see whenever a new one comes out. Frankly Aion will likely do well for a while if it's any good... if not it'll die just like everything else.

Hey, new here, been watching the forums a while etc you know the drill.

Just had to post in this thread because... well people act like beating WoW as it is now (i.e. with a considerable chunk of it's playerbase cut off by an external force) would be an accomplishment.

It really wouldn't. People have been hoping for a David and Goliath showdown between WoW and some newbie MMO for ages but that can no longer happen because in the tale of David and Goliath it was a fair contest - in so much as there was not any interference from, say, the People's Republic of China. Had David been sawn in half by the Party first it really wouldn't make for much of an inspirational story would it :p

I love WoW but it has had it's day. I believe it will be a long time before it truely dies but I just don't think beating it would be an accomplisment any more.

Aion seems really graphics intnsive - wow can run on crap pc's aion so far I have only seen one race wow has 10, I think the number of players and widespread things wow has - Aion will only take the heavy PVE'ers away

thats fucking hilarious! aion against wow...it'll be a while till wow gets beat...and its ify, no i have more hopes for old republic in being close to as good as wow, aion pfft...
clearly you have not played Aion or your merely a very arrogant person. Though your argument is packed full of logic i'm going to discard you as one of those tarts who says "pppffttt WoW FTW!!!1!1!" your argument has not logical base. Aion is in almost a complete copy of WoW...exept it looks a hell of a lot better, as better voice acting, oh yah and it has Free Style Arial Combat.

It doesn't HAVE to kill WoW to be successful, not even close, i mean Guild wars didn't kill WoW, but it still had enough of a player base and made enough of a profit to actually call for a few expansion packs.
however there is some pride in being able to topple a giant is there not?

Why is it that every time a new game comes out, every1 says it will be a killer of the biggest competitor in whichever game type it is? It's like those Quake killers or Halo killers; I don't think any of them have ever worked.

EDIT: Why the hell can't MMOs just charge a one time fee when you buy the game? Subscription fees just make MMO players only play 1 MMO (Guild Wars did this, and they're one of the most successful MMOs out there). They could at least lower the price from $15 a month to $5.

First off the player base has dropped by about 6million people ever since china banned it.
I.E. there not at 11 million players anymore, not even close.

But Blizzard hardly puts in effort anymore, you cant call a new expansion pack every year "pouring all that time and money into making it"

Sure they might have at the beginning, but at this point in time everybody could STOP playing WoW and Blizzard would still have a gross profit from the game.

Now we all just assume WoW is a monster and will never die, even though its merely a mediocre game at most and there are much better ones out there. (an opinionated thought i realize)

So aion online has been called the "killer of WoW" in for many reasons. I've played both and personally i think Aion could pull it off. I really dont care if Aion is almost a mirror image of WoW, i feel it takes what WoW created and then fixes all its flaws >8] I think its about time somebody stepped up to the plate and told WoW to go **** itself. though i may just be talking through my teeth because i'm a graphics whore (i.e. i likey teh pretty screenies) and Aion is runnin with the help of crytek. So anyone else think Aion Can pull it off?
I personally don't think WoW needs any help killing itself off. Blizzard are doing a good job of kicking the dead horse already. Make way for Diablo III, the next franchise to get milked.
haha, i agree to a point.

Nothing rides high forever so anyone who thinks WoW will never fall to a better MMO in time is kidding themselves. That said i dont think Aion has a hope in hell of being that game.

SW:TOR has a good shot at becoming popular in its own right but will never be the end of WoW because any StarWars game has much more of a finite fanbase than a High Fantasy setting.

WoW has a major advantage over all competition with its pure simplicity. The creators looked at Fantasy RPGs and saw one of the major flaws was complexity that put alot of potential players off. Very simply, WoW has the near perfect balance between an MMORPG for Dummies and enough micro-management and variation to draw people in and keep them there.
