Subtitles for me. I don't speak Japanese so I don't notice if acting is horrible, and it just sounds more... "right" if the characters are speaking Japanese.

The only thing I watch dubbed is DBZ, but even then I'll watch it subbed if its optional. All other anime, which I never watch anymore, is automatically subbed.

subbed. voice actors in japan are better cause they have a giant industry built for it over there. over in the western world its mainly aimed at kids.

I can't stand listening to the English dubs, especially after I hear the Japanese. The English makes everything sound so bad, and everythitng end up seeming less serious. There is one dub I choose over the Japanese and that is Dragon Ball Z. That is the only time that I have prefered the English dub.

Sub sub sub all the way. Generally the Japanese voice actor industry is much better than in the west. On top of that the sub/dub thing is much more than English sounding crap for me. I'm a Korean, and there is a certain amount of culture that just can't be properly translated between the east and west. There's stuff that I'll find cheesy crap in English, but find it completely acceptable when I hear it it Korean or Japanese.

Dubbing is terrible. I like the voices Japanese how they should be and I like subs anyway. Can't live without subs!

Usually dubbed because sometimes I can't read quick enough to keep up. However I don't mind subs all that much and if the dubbed voices are unbearable then I will watch them.

I don't really think one is better than the other. I enjoy watching both subbed and dubbed anime. I hate it when a subbed or dubbed fanboy starts to insult others just because they don't agree with their preferred way of watching anime.

I think the main reason I like subs is because I love to read. Whenever I watch a film or play a game I have to have subtitles on.

Dubs. Many of my friends watch subs, and I will if I can't help it (my brother bought me something in Iraq that was all subs) but I prefer the dubs. Some of the American voice actors have voices that are just cool, like Steven J Blum (Spike from Cowboy Bebop) and...the Guy that does Batou (GITS) Hiko (Kenshin) and Zangetsu (Bleach.)

I can understand wanting subs but I prefer to not have to read and watch all the pretty pictures going by. If the Japanese voice actors are better, I can't tell because I can't understand a word they're saying. It makes it kind of difficult to really understand the emotion in a voice that way.

I prefer dubbed, but only if its good i.e. Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing (Crispin Freeman has the voice I thought Alucard would have before I saw the anime), etc. Unfortunately most english dubs are downright atrocious ergo i watch a lot of subbed. Although its funny sometimes when the subbing is so bad i cant watch it all.

Furthermore, i cant see how any not japanese fluent person could get more out of hearing a japanese voice and subs compared to an english voice, even if its bad. example: what does a british accent in japanese sound like? oh you know whats better? having a japanese person sing in german. its bad, its really bad.
although i must say it is fun to listen to japanese during comic relief bits.

Subs for the most part, though there are a couple that I prefer the dubs, like Pokemon which we all grew up, also Scryed and Samurai 7 OH and Desert Punk and Golden Boy. It's just, soo damn hilarious in English, the voices are just so perfect.

Sometimes if it's made to look like people are speaking english then I'll watch it like that. But most of the time, especially for series like Bleach and definetly Miazaki films I always watch it in the native language.

Dubbed.

If I wanted to read I'd pick up a book. I don't want to be reading subtitles when I should be watching the pretty pictures.

For the people who say they don't want to read while watching an anime - by now I've watched so much anime that I can partially understand Japanese, well.. enough to only half read the subtitles and still understand what they're saying.

99.9% dubbed. There was a time when I watched subbed episodes of Naruto but(and I'm being serious) watching just about every episode twice or rewinding it just to catch what's happening on screen is not really my idea of a good time.
So I resorted to reading the Naruto manga. It moves at a quicker pace and I find it much more enjoyable.

Whenever buy an anime DVD my initial response is to check that it's set to the english voice option and hit play. Much more enjoyable and just seems right.

Subbed, they NEVER get the voices right, except in FL CL.
Not to mention they often change lines or even remove them all together.

The first episode of Steel Angel Kurumi has a helluva lot of swearing at the start when you watch it dubbed. When you watch it subbed it doesn't Why did they change it? It's ridiculous.
