Poll: Anime Dubbed VS Subbed

Subs. I used to do dubbed versions but I really started to get into my anime, basically the stuff that didn't come here or came to Adult Swim pretty late and I like Japanese voice actors better. I will admit some do have pretty good English voice actors, especially compared to the old "Manga" ones. God they were horrific
I don't really care. Most of the time I go with dubs because I always think the voices fit the characters but if I hear a series is especially good in subs or it's only in subs I'll watch it like that.
It depends on the anime. On some, it doesn't matter, but most I prefer subbed. The only one I can think of that I prefer dubbed is Samurai Champloo because the voice actors did amazing jobs.
It's a back and forth sort of thing for me, but I do appreciate subs more, just becuase Hetalia has no official dub yet, but when it does...I will chuck the subs out the window!
subbed, unless they have an english scene like in legend of black heaven with the mr.T looking guy with the so-cal preppy white dude skater accent or if its just laughably bad grammar and pronunciation like in itazura na kiss but as a general rule voice actors are qod awful with a few exceptions such as FLCL, trigun, et al

I watch subs because it takes too long for the dubs to come out, but then i cant watch 'Full Metal Alchemist' as a sub because half the male voices are girls and some of the theories are too complex to read... 'Tsubasa' did better as a dub and 'Lucky Star' suffered some what because the English voice actors tried to mimic the incredibly high nature of the Japanese voices.

Huh. Funny, I was just thinking about this earlier. Well, I prefer to watch anime when it's in English so I can understand it, because I don't want to be reading subtitles to whole time and missing visual elements that might be important. I want to be watching the show and seeing what's going on. Besides, the Japanese voice acting tends to make my ears bleed...
I watch all my anime subbed. Many dubs are simply horrible and sometimes I can understand them less than the original Japanese. Has anyone here seen the English Dub of Excel Saga? You would know what I mean if you did.
The other reason is simply because dubs are always 2-3 years behind anime releases. Bakemonogatari ended last year. It was one of the best series I've seen. No American company has yet even acquired the rights to distribute it in America. Same thing with many other series. I usually watch anime the day after it is broadcast in Japan, so subs are the only way to go.

This surprises me greatly. The Eureka 7 dub was one of the most annoying things I ever watched. Renton sounded like an annoying little kid no matter what he did. I was tempted to stop watching the series at around episode 20 when i couldn't take his voice anymore. My friend convinced me to watch it subbed however, and since then Eureka 7 has been my favorite anime series.DIZ-17 said:

If a dub is good and stays true to the story(Not exactly word for word, I mean literally changing the story) I'll watch it. Take anything for Studio Ghibli. All of that is dubbed and its dubbed expertly.
Black Lagoon is another show. Me and the fiancee watched the whole thing in English. Its very well done and they choose the voice actors well. You can't even tell its dubbed. So yeah, its all in how much the releasing company gives a shit. In terms of CCS and Azu Managa no, its done badly. Very badly. Then Black Lagoon comes around and you would never guess its been dubbed.
My advice is give the dubs a honest chance. If they suck go to the subs.
Off topic. Is it 'an' only when the next word is a vowel or when its a vowel sound? Like in honest up there. I spent about five minutes deciding whether it was 'a' or 'an'. 'A' seems correct according to syntax but verbally it sounds like it should be 'an'....

The only thing I watch dubbed is DBZ, but even then I'll watch it subbed if its optional. All other anime, which I never watch anymore, is automatically subbed.
I can't stand listening to the English dubs, especially after I hear the Japanese. The English makes everything sound so bad, and everythitng end up seeming less serious. There is one dub I choose over the Japanese and that is Dragon Ball Z. That is the only time that I have prefered the English dub.

Sub sub sub all the way. Generally the Japanese voice actor industry is much better than in the west. On top of that the sub/dub thing is much more than English sounding crap for me. I'm a Korean, and there is a certain amount of culture that just can't be properly translated between the east and west. There's stuff that I'll find cheesy crap in English, but find it completely acceptable when I hear it it Korean or Japanese.
