Indeed. The next gen will bring many more improvements than just graphic fidelity. Larger open maps, faster load times, more players in multiplayer and smarter AI to name just a few. An increase in RAM will really free developers up and allow them to do these things without having to spend so much money just to get their vision to work with outdated harware.RhombusHatesYou said:Well, they'll be New and Consoles... that's enough for some people.veloper said:Do we even know enough already about the next M$ and Sony consoles to have anything to get excited about at all?
As for specs... ennnhhhh... it depends. If the final products use the same CPU architecture as the ones claimed for the Orbis and Durango devkits then, yeah, we have a pretty good idea of the specs. However if the final product consoles end up using a different CPU architecture then it's a LOT trickier to extrapolate.
I just hope the next gen of console aren't RAMtarded like the current gen.
Well, let's be honest, with the current economic climate as it is, console manufacturers can't afford to go over the top on graphics tech... both Orbis and Durango apparently using AMD APUs pretty much underlines that. They're probably looking at giving what is today top-of-the-line console graphics but without developers having to sink millions in optimisation to achieve the same results (which also means devs that want to go gangbusters on graphics can spend their millions on optimisation).octafish said:Indeed. Well all I really know is that the PS3 has more power. I'll admit that the xbox has better online and less memory bottlenecks, but the Blu-ray (meaning generally better graphics. I'll admit, not that noticable though) and power of the console sell it for me. As well as this, the console exclusives are much better and way more diverse.j-e-f-f-e-r-s said:- Snip -
I'm not really saying it's a powerhouse over the 360, but with a lot of the games that I've played on each console, there has typically been less crashes or frame rate issues. Typically there is rarely any on the 360 either, there's just even less on the PS3 (Fallout for example, was one game I noticed this in particular). I never really said that the PS3 had some type of great power over the 360, it's just that little bit better. Or I always thought it was at least.j-e-f-f-e-r-s said:- Snip -
Next generation consoles mean that consoles are catching up to PC and finally our high performance computers get games that are more fitting to the strength they've got. That's my reason for being excited about the next gen consoles and I doubt I'll buy them unless there's som great exclusives for them.Flames66 said:I'm not particularly excited about them, I have just bought a new PC which will be my gaming machine for the foreseeable future. I never have liked playing games with a controller, and wavy motion controls hold even less appeal, so I will be sticking with my mouse and keyboard until something drastic happens.
You've pretty much proven me wrong at every turn, which is fine. I'm certainly no expert, as I said, most of what I've said was from experience. But this last paragraph, especially the part about Sony not being the same made me realise that you're 100% correct. They do need to keep prices low from now on. And I don't mean low priced console, high proved accessories, they do seriously need to pick themselves up here with their prices.j-e-f-f-e-r-s said:There's certainly nothing wrong with wanting to stick with Playstation. I had a PS1, and I'd have probably upgraded to a PS2 if my friends hadn't all gotten Xboxes for Halo, and persuaded me to do the same. Just bear in mind that Sony now is not the same Sony of ten-fifteen years ago. They're in a very different place financially, and they are not likely to go balls out on power for the PS4.
Hahaha, yes well I guess I'm not the kind to shut out everyone else's views and information.j-e-f-f-e-r-s said:-another snip-
