My list is MW2, Blackops, TF2, and CoD2. They were all good games, but blackops is starting to lose its grip.

My favorite game is half life 2 so...that. Not including that I'd probably say Bioshock. Both games having amazing plots, mixed with fantastic characters as well as satisfying combat.

Multiplayer wise I'd go with Left 4 dead 1&2. I must have at least 50 hours clocked on both of those...

I gotta go with timesplitters few games have ever come close to its level of madness I mean really is hard to beat a midget cyborg chasing a snowman on magic carpet around with a flamethrower as it screams "I'M MELTING!!!!!!!" or a gangster running around a hospital with a shotgun killing duck men.

For me, it's a toss-up between half-life and half-life 2.

HL was an amazing, game-changing event. It transformed my expectations of what a game could be.

HL2 was almost as good for gameplay, but with better-developed narrative, and a gravity gun.

The topic lost all credibility when the term "Best Ever" was used. You really should refrain from using an absolute term for such a subjective topic.

Borderlands

For a long time I would have said Half-Life 2...but Borderlands is simply more fun to play.

Halo 2 and Call of Duty 4.

Halo gets a bad wrap for the unbelievable morons that make-up the majority of it's community, but Halo 2 was a truly special multiplayer game.

Timesplitters: Future Perfect, which is also the best multiplayer shooter imo.

This.

Short but awesome campaign with lots of variation.
Tons of humor and still managing to have a decent story.
Arcade and Challenge modes to expand the single player experience (from zombie beheading to monkey electrocution).
Multiplayer consisting of co-op, 1-4 player split-screen and an online multiplayer.
About 150 playable characters.
A map maker.
The option to make your own missions in that map maker.
About 13 different multiplayer modes.
40+ weapons ranging from old western revolvers to futuristic pulse shotguns (and guns with secondary fire, damn, I love secondary fire).
Very decent soundtrack courtesy of Graeme Norgate.
Interesting graphical style that made everything ever so slightly cartoonish and gave characters in the cut-scenes very rich expressions.

There's not a single shooter out there that can mimic this awesomeness.
