so many clearly didn't read the post. "comic book" villan interpretation has got to be hamill. If any of you seriously think that the joker from Dark Knight was anything like the comics, well, you clearly never read them or watched the animated series :p
psshh, kids today :p

For what it's worth I think Ledger's joker is my favourite, but best version of the comic book joker? Hamill all the way.

nighty night, bats!

Well Heath did a fantastic job but not quite the match I thought he would be. I mean Heath was fucking scary and funny. A great blend but I have to say that for me it would be a tie between Hammil and Heath.

It is like MalevolentJim said: Hammil didn't have the body language and physical appearance to work with or on. While Heath had all that and previous actors to give him ideas.
In a sense,Ledger may only have been as good as he was because of Hammill's influence. Both Jokers are very, very different though so it's not that easy to compare in my opinion.
In many ways yes. You are correct. But in we are talking about Jokers rather then actors/voice actors. So it will be tough for them to be compared. BUTTTTTTT Ledger was good not just because of Hammill's Influence. The movie just seem to build on what Ledger was doing. The dark and very mysterious world they put That joker in as well as showing even less about the Joker was a better way to go about it then to explain 'every' little freaking detail about him. So for Ledger's Joker - Less is more (in terms of past events). Now Hammill is different in the terms of: he was the Joker's voice, in more ways then one. But then there was the movie: Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker as well as the new game: Arkham Asylum, which I have to say I loved playing and I love watching that movie. Both seem to give Hammill a great applause from new fans to old ones.

But like some people will say that Ledger's Joker wasnt the same as the comic book and yes that is true but still, he did a great job of putting his own twist on it as well as trying something different with him. (not everything has to stay the same....*sighs* old people...)

I <3 mark hamills joker, he is the one I think of when hearing the name.

Hearing Ebert criticize him in Mask of the phantasm was sacrilegous to me :(

I have a lot of love for Mark Hamill's Joker, but I'd have to go with Heath. As he nails both the vocal style and the physical presence.

I'll go with Mark Hammil, but only because there is no comic book option.

Heath Ledger for physical Jokers, I respect the work it takes to make a character that intense. But Hamill is hands down the voice of the Joker.

Hamill or Nicholson for me, though I must say that Heath Ledger's performance made the Dark Knight watchable whereas other good Batman films have been able to support themselves without standout performances.

And no, I don't include Batman Begins as a good Batman film, because it was shit.

Gonna go with Ledger on this one. Took that character and made it a personal favorite of mine.

Look at that, opinions as fact. You got to love that attitude.

For the people saying that Mark Hamill didn't have the physical aspect of the Joker down because he only did the voice, heres a little snippet for you.

During recording sessions, Mark would actually stand up and act out the scenes physically as well. The recording people were apparently so impressed with this that they based a number of the Joker's mannerisms off of Hamill's eccentric jumping around during sessions.

Ok I'll try again:

In my opinion (and remember it's my OPINION) Mark Hamill and Jack Nicholson are the superior actors in this poll when it comes to portraying the Joker. I must say that in my opinion (that's my OPINION) Heath Ledger's performance made the Dark Knight watchable, whereas I find other good Batman films have been able to support themselves with standout performances. But that's just what I think.

I also happen to dislike Batman Begins because I think it's shit. But this is just my OPINION.

Satisfied now?

Mark I think basically is the comic Joker that jumped right from the page and into the Silver Screen. When ever I see the Joker in the comics, his voice is the one I hear.

Jack basically played the same role he has always played. Although, he is very good at and it fits the joker well.

Heath made me not once did I think that he was doing a great job acting. He was so good, I truelly thought he WAS a clown murderer that just wanted to see the world burn, and didn't even have concepts of "acting" in my head.

Ceaser... he is campy... REALLY campy. However, he is so over the top that it comes around and becomes disturbing, espically when he laughs... oh god is his laugh creepy.

Kevin... Is a &*#$ing monkey. Not the Joker, a MONKEY.

Jeff is trying so hard to be Ceaser that not only does he over camp the part by a million billion miles and becomes ANNOYING. Of course, that is TBATB in a nut shell.

I would have to say Heath, but Mark is VERY close.

Mark Hamill is awesome, but I think Heath Ledgers was better due to how crazy he was. Too bad there will never be that great of a live action movie Joker ever again.

MArk Hamill is THE only true Joker. I'll admit, though, that I like Jack Nicholson's Joker, but Mark Hamill is by far the best one.

Very much so, I'm sorry if that seemed rather dick-ish but to be fair, you said it IS SHIT. Is when used in that way, is less a personal statement and more a factual one.

It's one of my buttons unfortunately, but a lot of new members keep doing that, words without much reason.
