I'm offended that you didn't mention Tupac. He is globally acknowledged as the best rapper ever.

<spoiler=Changes by Tupac>

Mine would be
Outkast-Hey Ya, Mrs. Jackson, Get Up and many others
Dead Prez-Get Up (feat. The Coup), Walk Like A Warrior, Police State
NWA-Straight Outta Compton, and Express Yourself
Immortal Technique-Peruvian Cocaine, Fight Until The End

Although I have to point out, Outkast is the only one I can consistently like. Dead Prez is all "kill whitey", NWA turned into (mostly) stupid gangsta shit after SOC, and Immortal Technique is a crazy conspiracy theorist.

Train of Thought - Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & DJ Hi-Tek)

It's either that or Black Star's self-titled debut and only official album, although Talib Kweli and Mos Def still do what they do best, they just usually do it separately now.

Immortal Technique.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qggxTtnKTMo - His best song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XugeLg8jpmQ - His freestyle.

Once you've listened to this, you've heard real rap.

I love Black Star's album. Mos Def and Talib Kweli are both excellent. I heard they're putting out a new album next year. Illmatic from Nas is probably a close second.

My favourite is probably "Ready To Die" by Notorious B.I.G. But apart from that, it has to be underground NYC rap, like Madvillain, MF Doom, Quasimoto (all the same person!), also Deltron 3030.
Eminem is important because of his syncopated style, but he leaves me a bit cold. Other than that, most mainstream rap sucks. And people that say "I hate rap" because they've only ever heard Fiddy are not worth listening to. About anything.

My Name Is is one of the funniest things I've ever heard: Marshall Mathers isn't a rapper, he's a comedic artist ... or ... he was anyway
I think you have him and his alter ego Slim Shady mixed up. you ever heard "Stan" shits deep and dark. not funny at all.

Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip! It's an outrage that noone really knows them, completely different to most modern rappers.

Yes. YES. This is the only rap that doesn't get on my nerves.

Binary Star, On Be Lo, and Immortal Technique are all amazing artists (oh and MF Doom)..

But pretty much ANY album by Lupe Fiasco gets it from me. He really doesn't get the appreciation he deserves =P.
