Even though it is degrading to the child i agree with them in some situations. Like with the people that can't keep their eyes on their children for two fucking minutes! Then next thing you know they just tripped and old lady ad broke her hip. Only with these people is the thought of "Child Leashes" even remotely acceptable.

They're necessary... when the parent hasn't taught their kid to not be dumb.

Same thing, different amounts of text. Is there a word for that? (along the lines of synonm, homonym etc.)

The first time I saw a child leash it was an almost traumatic experience, I couldn't quite believe my eyes. Strange thing was that I saw it twice on 1 day but never since again.

If future generations suffer from horrible events like school shootings or other violence a lot of people are going to blame video games, i will blame child leashes

Rule of thumb- Once they are old enough to get out of the harness, they are old enough to be out of the harness. Until then, leash the bastards

Thinking about this rationally, if your child is likely to run off and get lost in a mall (which I was prone to) or run out in the road (also a trick of mine), I'd have to say a harness would be a good idea. Otherwise, probably not.

Honestly, I think my early childhood would have been a lot safer if I had been kept on a leash. It's less to do with shitty parenting (my parents are pretty awesome) and more to do with small children being dumb and prone to chasing shiny things. Or moving things. Or stationary things. Or, well, ANYthing that they haven't tried to eat, stick up their nose, or break yet.

I find "sterilization" more acceptable for these kind of people.

I really don't mind them but if the child knows about the leash and doesn't want to be put in it then don't, otherwise, go right ahead.

My mom put one of those wrist leashes on me when I was about 3 and we were going to the mall. I remember that I filped shit and she said that I wouldn't quit screaming "I'm not a puppy" until she finally took it off me.

I will always remember that day as the first battle I won in my 18 year war with my parents.

Actually I was just making fun of these things with my friends earlier today. But I do think they're horrible, and embarrassing for the parent, the child, and society. Really, equating your children with animals? Surely we can do a little better than that?

Parents need to be parents and take care of their child. That includes controlling them and keeping them with you. If you can't do that without walking them around on a leash, you need to shape up or ship out (I don't think I've ever used that phrase before). And kids get lost sometimes. Happened to me, happens to everybody. Deal with it.

Man some of you guys make it sound like they are using choke chains around the kid's neck or something. It is harmless. The kid most likely will have forgotten by the time it matters (or can become a family joke). And it keeps the kids safer than having them run free.

Do you guys not realize how fast kids can be? Turn your back for a second and all hell can break loose. You can't expect to be in a crowded area and keep an eye on them every second without something. A stroller or pushcart which is even more limiting than a leash.

Ok first off, I searched I remember a thread ages and ages ago but I couldn't find it and I thought with the Escapist's recent traffic boom an new thread might do the topic good.

So, In my opinion I think these child leash/harness things are disgusting I get that they are meant for kids who are hyper but expecting a kid to not be hyper is like standing infront of a hungry lion and expecting it not to eat very rare you. (/exaggerated comparison)

I understand "It's different if you are the parent" and I expect to get angry at my kids for being hyperactive little shits, but still I would never place a harness around them like an animal (also please don't bring up "why is it not ok for kids but it is ok for animals?, because 1.I'm not really sure and 2.It's not what we are discussing)

/short rant

Now it comes down to what you think of them.

But children are animals. Humans are animals so i really don't care.

The only time I've seen it and not been disgusted was the one time I saw a parent using it to keep a mentally retarded child from doing something stupid at a zoo.

Okay, this coming from someone who actually had wear one of those accursed things.

They are extremely demeaning, embarrassing, and restricting, but in some cases, necessary.

If you're in a really crowded place, and your kids are really young, then it's very useful to keep from losing them, and may even save their lives.

Although, that wasn't case when I had to where one.
Going to Disney World at the age of eight, with my grandparents holding on to my Baby Looney Toons wrist leash was the most embarrassing experience of my life.
A wrist leash is still... well, better then what they had on the retarded kid. That was actually, ya' know, a leash. Around his neck. Yeah... I was, if I remember correctly, about 14, and I was tempted to hit the "Call Security" buttons they had all over the zoo.

I think they are disgusting and are a sign of your inability to parent, in most situations.
That being said, what ever happened to the parent saying "Hold on to my belt" when you're in crowded areas. When they feel the hand leave their belt, they turn around to grab for the kid. If you teach your kids that when you say to do something, it's for a damned good reason, as opposed to yelling at them, then they'll do as they're told.

In all honesty, kids and dogs should be treated alike. You are the Alpha in the relationship. They do as they are instructed, and they will be taken care of and given a time for play.

the problem is a lack of ADAM in this modern non-steampunk world of ours

"Until Adam, you could no more domesticate a child than a boa constrictor."

God, I think these are idiotic. Incredibly idiotic.
The thread? or the leashes? because if it's 1. then I have to disagree I believe we have a nice selection of different opinions and discussion here and for 2. I agree.
