differs from type of game but for competitive FPS's once you go mouse there is no going back to thumb sticks. I used to play shooters on console back in ps2/n64 days but now my little 12 year old brother can beat me on halo 3, maybe even nightfire which I used to be like a god at.

SO BEWARE!!!

but for playing action games like assassin's creed/arkum asylum on my PC I will be plugging in a 360 controller. but precise aiming and RTS's = mouse everytime. button mashing = controller.

I prefer mouse and keyboard over the console controller which I can never use efficiently. Other than that a keyboard and joystick for racing games and flight sims (including space sims).

These controls are the most intuitive for me. Most likely because I have used them as long as I have played computer games, starting with the Amiga 500.

As many others i feel the pc controls are more accurate but the console controls allow for better reaction times and have fewer buttons so you wont tap the wrong one by accident.
i prefer the console controls

Personally, I despise console aiming. Having to use the joystick makes me want to gouge my eyes out. But most of my early FPS games were on computers, I'd say it's probably up to what you started with.

Well, PC shooters don't need to have 'sticky' auto aiming in order to function properly, and they are a lot more customizable so that's my choice (also I can consistantly be an awsome shot in PC fps games, where with consoles me skill tends to vary vastly from game to game).

I've never really noticed any difference, although for 3rd person action games I will always prefer a controller.

after about 5+ minutes my mouse hand starts to shake when i play FPSs making my accuracy shit. so i like the controller, but nothing replaces a PC's controls when it comes to any RTS

Always gonna be down to opinion, but PC Controls > Console for me. Ability to change your controls and the better accuracy from the mouse versus two sticks is what 'does it'. ^.^

While console controls are generally better for certain genres, FPS games are not one of those genres. The increased accuracy and precision of mouse movements compared to an analog thumbstick in a 2D pattern, is not open to debate. If you think it is, then I'd love to hear a proper coherent argument as to the fact. And accuracy is a major factor in any FPS game, hence PC controls win out. I will grant a certain degree of advantage is to be had in the movement department with a controler, but the advantage is minor.

There is a reason PC and console users don't share servers. PC users would (on average) wipe the floor with console players. And it wouldn't be a matter of skill (I'm assuming the same skill average), but rather of a superior input technique.

I bought my boyfriend the orange box PC, and he also has the 360 version (I'll make him a PC gamer yet).

He says that the PC version's controls are better my a long way.

Also, you get all the updates on the PC version, and mods, so you gain more than better controls.

PC controls hve always felt really fake to me... and if they make aiming easier, than that just takes skill out of the game.
Whereas auto aim really takes a lot of skill ay? :)

I prefer a controller just because I suck at pressing the correct key on a keyboard at the correct time. I tried playing CoD: WaW at my friends house, and I couldn't knife-kill Kamikazes at all (which meant constant death-screens, along with the prompt to press the "knife" button. Grr...)
While I can agree that it's easier and certainly quicker to be accurate on PC as opposed to console, I simply prefer to play with a controller.

You can play with a controller. The 360 pad is compatible with PCs (IIRC, vista, and presumably 7, has all the stuff you need installed already so you just plug it in and go. XP needs drivers.)

Or you could splash out on one of those silly mini keypad with only the buttons you need, and use a mouse. :p

Yes, if you take time to mess around with your windows and ingane sensitity and train your muscle memory KB+Mouse is superior.

The mouse feels like a superior way to aim, but the buttons on a gamepad are way more accessible and easier to use than a keyboard. We need some sort of crazy amalgamation of both.

While an arguement could be made for mouse aim being superior (and even then not by much), unless you're playing an RTS or MMO, you're going to be hard pressed to say that keyboards are better for gaming than controllers.

From everything from cost to accessablitilty, the controller is the superior control for many games. Hell, crank the sensitivity up and the mouse advantage barely becomes noticable.

Yeah, but I'm too cheap/poor to afford a good gaming-PC, and my mother won't buy me one (I wonder why?).
But if I'm ever getting a PC, then I'll possibly get a controller, if I would still be completely inept at using keyboard controls after a longer time.

That "special" keyboard? No thanks, I've already filled my quota for looking like a dork.
