Poll: Cross Platform Multiplayer?

It'd be a slaughter of consolers world wide. I'd love it. Then again, any game that hoped to be a financial success would have to over-enhance the console auto-aim mechanic just to keep it somewhere near fair.

Full disclosure, I play PC and all consoles...even the Wii.

What controller and games do you use? (if any)

Well, erm, okay. I use the 360 controller for shooters (and, therefore, buy them for the 360), the PS3 one for driving games and the PC one for Steam games.

Eh. Really, I think that those forced to play, for example, Killzone 2 with the PS3 controller against someone playing it with the 360 one are in clear disadvantage.

Again, that's probably just me.

I seem to kick a whole lot of arse with my PS3 controller, but I'm rubbish with a 360 controller in my hands.
I reckon it's a lot more to do with what you learnt on than what's a more ergonomic controller.

Admittedly, I'm pretty glad we don't have cross-platform gaming. Every time I've gone online with my friend's 360, every match we go onto seems to be populated by either whiney 12yo kids, or irritating and obnoxious teenagers. My friend has had to quit quite a few sessions online just because people wouldn't stop harassing her.
We usually play Red Dead Redemption (on expert of course. Is there any other way?), Halo 3, Crackdown 2, Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 or Modern Warfare 2.

She's never gotten the same problems on my PS3 when she plays on her profile at my place, and we play mostly the same games (RDR, R6V2, MW2, KZ2. Tho I don't really play MW2 anymore)

Plus, when I played, it didn't require me to put in those "Friend Codes". Don't count them out yet.

OT: I'd actually like to see more of this happen. It'd be cool to kind of meld the gaming communities together.

And you have proved that Nintendo is perfectly happy with collaborating...with itself. Which wasn't really my point to begin with.

Most cross-platform titles that matter will be between systems not owned by the same company.

I thought we were talking about consoles, not PCs. In that case, yeah obviously a mouse and keyboard would pwn, but if there was some kind of cross console multiplayer (xbox and PS3) I don't see what the problem would be, aside from developers not being stuffed.

I'm all for it. Got a buddy who has several games I own, but he has them for the Ps3 while I own them for the 360, so that would make it so he doesn't have to buy a 360 if he ever wants to play a game with me (I'm not budging on the matter, a new computer, and basically everything else comes before purchasing a Ps3). Too bad they'll never go back and add cross platform multiplayer to older games.

Not sure...

There might be networking differences (they are two different operating systems, after all). But I don't know if that matters because they are going to the same server... I'm pretty sure it is possible (especially with PC and 360, microsoft makes the software for both, XBL is probably the same system as GFWL, even though the latter sucks balls) but nobody has done it yet. And I don't know why. Because I would buy a mediocre shooter if it means I can play my friend with a 360.

I've heard about a game that tried that once, and apparently they never tried it again because the PC users wiped their ass with the competition.

This pretty much sums up the reason why we shouldn't have cross platform multiplayer.

People would just give each other endless abuse over their choice of console (just like the fellow in the quote above who is probably in need of having his head surgically extracted from his rectum).

In short, we're way, way too 'territorial' to just be able to play nice together.

true, but if there was a leader board based on what platform your on, and see which platform has the best players, you could settle the console wars a little more quickly. And PC gamers, the reason your "better" is because you have a mouse. if you turn down its speed to match our controlers, and then you beat us, youll have the proof you need. but untill that happens, just keep those comments about us "consoletards" to yourself.

Also, PC and Console FPS'es's are built differently. Console ones are built around timing and cycles; hide behind the wall, pop up and take potshots while the other guy stops shooting, repeat. Or the left-trigger aim-locking, such as in Metroid Prime, or, in a lesser extend, COD.
PC has no hiding or timing. It's only a matter of time before a bunnyhopping shotgunner pops out of the corner and blasts you where you cower, so it relies far more on snap movements and quick aim. Also, you get called a camper if you wait in one place for more than 14 seconds.

They want fan loyalty and to give the illusion of being superior in most aspects so that people will buy their products and use them exclusively when, in reality...

i think it could really help the longevity of certain games lives, as it would bring players together, however i dont think companies would see eye to eye on that...so yea it probably wont happen as a medium for multiplatform games.

OP: Shadowrun on the PS2/PC did it. But it was a pretty big failure as the PC users dominated the PS2 players. (That's not meant to sound elitist!) Eventually the game stopped because there was almost no PS2 players.

I really don't like the idea. I rather like the console players staying exactly where they are.
