So for a background on this, my girlfriend is quite an avid anime 'nerd' and attends conventions and cosplays, and under a terrible circumstance she has eventually managed to bribe me into going with her, but I haven't been forced to cosplay. So my question is, do I or don't I?
And if so, who?

All ideas would be appreciated and for helping with choosing characters, I'm a fairly muscular built, 16 year old male with neck length hair.

Thank you for any reply :)

Only if you're sure you can do a good (and by good, I mean superb) job of it, and not end up in one of those "top 10 worst cosplay" lists.

You'll end up doing it for your girlfriend, but my opinion is nay.
Don't do it. Seriously.

Well.. How about Cloud?
Cloud was my first idea, as a fan of Final Fantasy, but isn't it a bit cliché? Any ideas for a more interesting FF character?

Go for Squall then. Atleast it'll keep her busy fighting off the other fanboys/fangirls of you.
But just for giggles, I'd say Bartz as the MIMIC-class.
With the outfit she is wearing, that's probably a good idea to counter balance, I'll have a look into how hard it will be.

Strictly anime characters? Well, if you're concerned about preserving your good name I'd recommend Alphonse Elric. Nobody will even see your face. Though getting the gear together may be difficult...

If you go as anything I'd recommend doing Wolverine if just because you can basically wear a wife-beater, jeans, a nice belt, a fuckload of hair jell, and do some metal shop on six knives and hope nobody notices they're not blunted before all the fangirls drive you into a murder frenzy.

Yeah, I'd mock cosplay more if fangirls didn't make such a good argument for it...

I've already worked my way out of strictly anime, although Alphonse would be a good idea as it she is going as someone from FMA too, and yes I used to mock cosplay. But then I started dating a fangirl.

Yes you do. Cosplaying is fun. I went to a convention dressed as Link and we had a pool as to how long it would be before someone yelled "OH MY GOD! IT'S LINK!" (for the record, the time it took someone to yell that was approximately 17 seconds.)

I could see why cosplay would come in handy there.

I'm actually not too hard on cosplay. I found out how enjoyable it was when my mother took a movie makeup course and I started kicking ass at Halloween. When you can go to school as Freddy Kruger and actually look like Freddy Kruger you feel good. Especially when you get a free coffee at the local store because the one person in Canada with a southern accent loves the makeup.

Robe and Wizard Hat. :)

Really though - wear whatever's fun for you, because that's what the dressing up is all for.

Even if you say your physical, without an appropriate picture no-one will be able to say if you can or not.

This coming from someone that's done loads of well-done cosplays from the slightest detail.

If you want to cosplay, make sure you have plenty of time to put into it. If you half-ass a costume, it's just not going to work.
