Don't cosplay. Enjoy the convention, but I don't suggest cosplaying.

Well, if you are, can you first tell us what your girlfriend is going as?

Well.. How about Cloud?
Bad idea. The OP will get more recognition for being someone who isn't seen a lot, like Gene from Outlaw Star or a character from, say, Gundam Wing.

My advice is this: if you're gonna cosplay, make sure you go as either a character you like. And be accurate; you can add a little spin to the outfit, but you gotta have the basics of the character design down if you're gonna do that.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. While it is a fun experience (especially when you get girls to squeal at your outfit like what happened to me at Magfest earlier this year), don't let just our words speak for your thoughts.

I'm simply using this thread as an outlet for ideas, then looking into whether they would be viable for me. I appreciate the thought :)

Do not cosplay to your first convention. In addition, do not cosplay your first time to a convention you've never been to.

You want to test the waters to see how everything goes at that convention before you seriously think about dressing up. Otherwise, you may wind up embarrassing yourself, even if you have a good costume. I know I did my first time as ACEN (worst Damien cosplay ever). I also heard about a specific convention (that I forget the name of), where if you go dressed up as a character from a specific series, and don't know everything about that character/series, you will be shunned. Entirely.

It may not be as fun when you're not cosplaying, but trust me. You'll thank me later if you decide to go again.

EDIT: For best results on later visits, cosplay as someone somewhat obscure, but still easily recognized. Simon will get you more fangirls than Kamina. El Fuerte will go over better than Ryu. Of course, my opinion here may be moot since I'm going to go to ACEN next year as Kisuke Urahara, and there were plenty of those this year.

While I would usually completely agree with someone more experienced than myself, my Girlfriend has been to this particular convention before and she said it was overwhelmingly friendly, also she knows a large group of people who are attending so I feel I am in safe hands.

Well, ACEN is pretty friendly as well, but you still want to know how the cosplay goes at the convention you're visiting before you try something. I didn't get any insults or on any "worst cosplay" lists, but the overall lack of quality on my Damien outfit still left my face red instead of blue.

Even if your girlfriend knows how things are, I still would suggest that you see for yourself before you seriously decide on cosplaying.

Do an easy one, like for me Yagami Light. Have the clothes and hair already,so can say you're him or yourself depending on mood.

You make a very good point, and I will have to discuss it with her. But I am terrible at letting myself get bribed into things by her. Twisted woman.

This is why I think Sebastian from Kuroshitsuji may be a good idea, as he tends to look very stylish as a character.

Light for me seems too easy an option, as my hair is pretty much the same as his anyway and I tend to dress in the same manner. Nice fall-back option :)

Don't you dare go as Seb unless you're certain you can do him proud. >.>

Also to post a pic, find one of yourself online, right click on it and say "copy image location", then write:

[ image]*paste image url here*[ /image] - without the spaces.

I don't get your point.
Unless you're refering to the fact that he is the main character and probably one out of 100 people who'll cosplay Cloud. Even so, how is that a bad idea?
It's pretty simple. The more popular a character is, the more people who will cosplay him. If you want to do Cloud, for example, you have to make a very damn good Cloud to get recognition. Either that, or take the costume on a unique spin.

Please don't. Or at least, if you're really gonna do it, dress as something western. Not magical robots with blue hair.

I've never actually seen a magical robot with blue hair, my interest in cosplay is increasing thanks to your comment.

Blasphemy, he should go as L.

Even I do, binding, jeans, a loose shirt and (possibily) sneakers. It's simple.

The goal is to have fun with your girlfriend. Tell her you'd be interested in trying to do a cosplay with her and see if there's anything that she could help you get together for you guys to do as a couple cosplay.
