As much as I like metal, my first love is classical. Love the stuff, in my opinion, it's more expressive and more emotional than metal, and it doesn't even need words to do that either.
Check out Heaven Shall Burn. They have some amazing classical stuff with their songs. They really set the mood/tempo/feel for the song.

It normally irritates the hell out of me when bands have classical bits in their songs, but that was tastefully done. I've never heard of them before, but I liked it.
You're very welcome then. They're out of Germany, and have only been to the US once considering their growing fan base.

I agree, it can def get fucked up badly.
Personally, I think the worst offenders are black metal bands, I'm not a fan of the style anyways, but that on top makes it worse. Perhaps it's a little biased, but still.

Black metal is a fine line, and I don't know and can't speak for many bands, but I do like Children of Bodom, and probably some others I can't think of at the moment. Never heard any of them try classical mixed in though. Heaven Shall Burns last album had some black metal influence but thats about their extent with it.

I can't think of the bands that I've heard that did that, one of them I know did it during the middle of a song and I thought that it was awkward. I've sometimes heard at the beginning, but not for very long, but most of the time it's at the end, and I think it's just cheesy. Black metal is a strange beast, one which took me a while to put my feeling about it on, and I will grant you there is a very fine line when it comes to that genre. If it leans too far in any direction and it becomes a whole different style.

I haven't heard a lot from Children of Bodom, so far they are a meh to me.

I listen to much heavy metal, and I'm quite picky about my music. However, I like a bit of folk, jazz, classical & orchestral, electronic & psytrance, pop, and other random alternative stuff. Usually I'm still picky, and I don't really like typical or mainstream type songs regardless of what genre they fit into

My genres: Metal, rock, punk, reggae, indie, rap and some electro genres (DnB and dubstep). These are genres that I will actively look up and listen to, but I can certainly enjoy other genres as well.

I really enjoy classical and jazz, but I think that could just be four years of high school band and jazz band catching up with me.

Well, obviously I have a bit of a crossover into Rock territory. Pink Floyd, System Of A Down, Guns And Roses, Scorpions, KISS etc etc.
A tiny bit of punk, Dead Kennedys and MSI mainly.
Apart from that, I really do listen to almost nothing else, voluntarily anyway. Honestly, I just don't like anything else. What can I say, it's not who I am.
Oh, also classical can always be good.
I think it's because I like "complex" music. I'm aware Rock has some talented bands (I listen to a lot of them), as does pretty much every genre. Maybe I just don't like the style either. There is one Pop singer I don't mind, I forget her name, but she's actually an incredible guitarist. Her vocals and lyrics and everything else is as generic as most Pop, but the guitar is actually really good...

I do give every genre a chance to impress, some has succeeded in getting my attention, others were not as fortunate.

I mainly just listen to thrash metal and punk, but I got respect for all music that has some effort behind it.

I friggin' love country. Well, Johnny Cash at least.
I also like some Brit-rock (Oasis, Kasabian etc) or whatever it's called.
There's some very good dance/trance out there was well.

NIN are one of the best things I have ever heard, so I guess I'll include that.

Oh, and Eminem. I like his music.

I'm a pretty big fan of heavy metal and it's many subgenres (Death, Power, Black, Symph). You mention a subgenre, and I'll probably love it. Oddly enough, I dislike the stereotypical Norwegian hardcore progressive underground black metal that seems to have all the posers wired up, but I still find a soft spot in my heart for some good ol' grindcore. That all aside, I also like me some reggae (including it's more pop-influenced finnish counterpart) as well modern and 80's rock n' roll. I dislike the annoying 60s "rock" that all those elitist poofs in their fabric jackets, scarfs and fashionable eyeglasses seem to love. Also, Daft Punk. Oooohh yeah...

Also, I'm a massive KISS fan.
