I had my first stubby with a meal at like 11 at xmas. I've been drinking "unsupervised", IE my mum knew but let me have my space for the learning experience, since 15. And been going to clubs since 17. My parents philosophy has always been that preventing us from doing something will just make us more likely to over do it when we no longer need permission.
There is no reason why drinking has to be an unpleasant experience. It is to a large extent demonised, especially as a teen/young adult due to those who do it irresponsibly.
Now Im not going to lie. You going to drink too much. It happens. And to start with it probably happens too much. I remember the first time my brother mate brought round a bottle of vodka (that age 15 thing

) I spent 2 hours throwing up. : / Not fun. Make sure your with some friend for when you inevitably over do it.
That said once you learn you limits and know how too maintain that happy tipsy feel its just a good laugh. I sure as hell wouldn't condemn it without trying it a few times. If you can honestly say after a few nights out, where you haven't gone overboard, that alcohol does nothing for you, fair enough. But I know of only one person who continues to be tee-total, and his objection is that alcohol tastes crap, not with the affect.
