I'm of German descent but my families on both side fled the country before the first World War. I've never been there but I really want to go.

I have no problems with Germany... Although I do think it is silly that they're shutting down all their Nuclear Reactors because of Japan. You're in the middle of a continent and not near the mega-Earthquake-epicenter! Oh well...

I <3 Germany =) Dresden is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, und Deutsch ist eine wunderschöne Sprache!

After all, I imported a German specially for use as a boyfriend ^_^ All the way across the world. The shipping is a nightmare on those... ;-P

natürlich!

I lived there for about a year when I was 3, and while the finer points of the country were probably lost on me, I look forward to one day going back.

In addition, fantastic engineering, fantastic scientists, fantastic beer, fantastic food (for a meat and potatoes kinda guy), and while they have the huge blemish of WW2 on their record, I think they've done well to continue to educate the population (as some people have already said) rather than deny or just try to forget it.

Germany's awesome. You got beer and death metal and goths and...um...well I don't know what else they have in Germany but that's good enough for me.
Porn--the kinkiest shit you'll ever find. Or so I have been informed, of course.

I voted "don't know" although my attitude could be more accurately described as "mild approval".

I've never been, but from what I hear, they've got some cool stuff. Their beer's supposedly good, they make good cars, I imagine driving on the Autobahn would be fun, the language -from what I've heard of it- sounds cool, and I'm going to be studying it during the upcoming semester.

All told, I don't really see any reason I should dislike the whole country. Really, there's only a couple of nations that I feel that way about, and none of them are in Europe. (Hint: They're North Korea, China, and Iran. Heck, even then, it's only their respective governments that I hate; I've got no beef with any one person because of where they live.)

Of course (from what I have gleaned regarding the general attitude of Europeans), if I ever visited, they probably wouldn't like me (being American and all). Ah, well. I still think I'd enjoy a vacation there.

You mean Germany? The country with zero-tolerance for drunk drivers, the country that teaches the hell out of the war that made them infamous instead of denying it ever occurred?

Love them Krauts.
I can respect that.

OT: I'm part Austrian, so yeah, I like the Germans.

Fun people overall. A bit crazy, but then again, who isn't?
We all have our wacky genocidal periods, right?

...right?

The majority of both sides of my family is German. I've been there several times. Overall, it always left a positive impression on me.

Things I like:

- History. Everywhere you go feels like it's been around for hundreds of years. And, indeed, it generally has. Compare that to Calgary, where he vast majority of buildings were built between the 1960's and now. Quite the contrast.
- Berlin. By far one of the coolest cities I've ever been to. If the opportunity arose, I would happily live there.
- The cars. Audi, VW, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes... all awesome. And, just the cars people drive. It's very refreshing to drive around and not be surrounded by pickup trucks, SUVs and minivans. A 5-door hatchback is considered family car there, not a 7-seater minivan.
- The Autobahn. Driving any car full out, as fast as it can possibly go, is an amazing experience. It's really nice to have that option. And, the highways in general are buttery smooth.
- Driving in general. German drivers are exponentially better than the idiots that roam the roads all over North America. Lane discipline! Signalling turns and lane changes! Right of way! Courtesy! These are all concepts German drivers seem to understand. There's a reason the Autobahn works. The drivers using it are actually capable.
- The music. Lots of awesome bands... Rammstein, Blind Guardian, Edguy, Equilibrium...
- The lifestyle in general. This could apply to a lot of Europe. Cities and towns are generally much more dense. The contrast between inner city and suburbs isn't nearly as dramatic. Everything is generally much closer, and the houses themselves are a lot nicer, with much less wasted space. I'm not a fan of North American suburbs.
- Public transit is well developed, well executed, and reliable. The ICE is also quite nice.
- The climate is more up my ally. Calgary is pretty extreme in terms of temperatures, and always quite dry.
- The people are generally pretty cool. And they LOVE Canadians, which works out well for me.

Things I don't like:

- The people can be a bit up-tight.
- For whatever reason, German kids tend to be absolute brats. At least the ones I was exposed to over the years.
- A lot more smoking goes on there than I'm used to. And pretty much everywhere. Could do without that...
- Things are generally sorta expensive there, relative to what I'm used to in Canada.
- In terms of roads, I do like that Calgary, and many North American cities and towns operate on a grid system. Makes things very easy to navigate. Older European cities in general can be quite a mind-fuck if you don't know where you're going.
- Mullets. Oddly popular among the Germans. Weird.
- Sauerkraut. Blech.
- The milder climate means a lot more spiders than I'm used to. And I really, really hate spiders...
- A lot of the "softer" pop music is just unbearable.

No idea; never been. I am going to Italy the UK, and France but I'd really like to go to Germany as well. I will when I gt older probably. I've met a fee ethnic Germans before through my English teacher, and they seemed like very nice people. Also, I've heard nothing but good things about Germany from people I talk to. But like I said, I've never been, so I don't know.

Sure.

Never been there, but I've met more than a few Germans in my time. They were all friendly people.

Lets ignore the obvious (I'm talking about you Nazis) I love the place, been there for a week and it was amazing.
Apfelfreakinstrudel.

Also, best beer I ever had and lots of big and scary castles. What else do you need to like a place? (again ignoring the Nazi part)

idk if there's anything i love about Germany itself, i would need more context.

food? i like that.
language? not big on european languages, but German is growing on me.
scenery? i've never been there.
People? haven't really met any.
NAZI? not a fan, but Germany as a whole cannot continually be blamed for past mistakes.
history class? i never liked because of WWI+II, but that also cannot be held over current day Germany's head.

overall i'd say i have no current beef with any of them. i only answered idk above because your question is so vague.
