Maybe a culture form , like music , movies , art; and a political form . That would probably take most of the load of the off-topic forums .
That would work quite well.^

If there was a forum for "controversial" threads, people would start posting there with horrible topics, and it would spill over to the other good forums. I like it the way it is. The mods can be strict, but the Escapist community can be very strict too.

So you're asking for a "controversial forum"
One day it'll be a "random forum" and then where will we be?
I concur with this man and his views.

Stop quoting me! I used somewhat twice in one paragraph, that's horrible literary form. :(

I voted "Yes." for the sheer fact that we need "User Made Content" forum. Stuff for members' stories, artwork, poetry, sculpting, photography, programs, music, games, etc.

Anyway, my brief two cents.

I'm very new here but when i refresh a forum page, all the threads are completely changed and i forget where the hell the last thread i posted in went to. A new forum(s) wouldn't hurt.
You can always check in your profile to see threads you recently posted on.
Ah! Thanks a lot.

Definitely that way when people make a music post people won't report you for spamming the forums even though your just trying to talk about music.
People don't report you for making music posts, they report you because your music post say "I like Duran Duran, discuss!" or "Here's a link to youtube, discuss!" See a pattern there?

We need the self-affirmation forum. One where topics can be comprised totally of 'look at me and tell me I'm wonderful' threads.

It will be awesome!

I'm pretty...aren't I?

I see what you mean. I just meant ones for current events, such as to take out all the Obama/Prop8 stuff and let me get back to random topics. I understand how putting one in specifically for controversial topics would be inviting disaster.

And I bothered to vote, just to even it out again.

You so owe me now, fish food.

On-topic: I like the "Forum Games & RP split" idea.

Don't do it, it's not worth the shame.
[sup]Not to spread slanderous words about the escapist's sister site or anything, but I'm still feeling the emotional scars from back then[/sup]
I now understand why the Escapist took away signatures.

I don't think it needs new forum categories as too many people would miss categorize their posts anyway. I post on Yahoo Answers sometimes, and that site is the perfect example of having way too many categories.

What I'd like to see though is a search for previous topics that works better. I keep seeing people saying that the OP's topic has been done before only to see the OP say he couldn't find it in the search. I've searched for topics before too, only to come up empty handed more often than I think I should.

I think just like in Year 11 and 12 English there should be an issues section. This would take all political / religious / controversial and other stuff that just end up in flame wars into one section saving the mods and fellow escapists time and frustration.

EDIT: -s on section

Let me ask, how would putting all those topics in one place make moderating easier? Is this sort of an internment camp to keep those topics from mingling with the purer ones? Without invoking Goodwin's law I think you see what I am getting at, right?

I was thinking that if we did need another forum then we could split the Off-topic into two sections. One would be called the Deep End. The Deep End is for intelligent debates and discussions. Things will be heavily moderated in the Deep End and all posts have to contribute something to the discussion at hand. The Deep End will be the home for the serious discussions. Then on the other side of the spectrum is the ball pit, this will be about the less intelligent subjects (favorite movies etc). Of course there is a problem in this, what about the middle ground? Now you will need to make another forum for these topics. (I got this idea from the Australian Gamer forums)

This is a terrible idea for the Escapist though. In my opinion the forums work well as is. The Off-topic isn't bogged down with Games and RP's and the Gamming section isn't bogged down with reviews. In fact it appears having the reviews section encourages people to write or speak reviews.

We don't need to separate the community, it does that by itself anyway.
