somewhat.
if bad mechanics or poor gameplay is mentioned frequently, then that may be a game I'm better off without.
most reviews kinda skim over some of that stuff if the game isn't good, only a few willmention it.
but i've found that i agree with the reviews more than once. portal is GREAT. team fortress 2? it's changed. not really for the better in my opinion. seriously, buy an item set and gain some bonus?
modern warfare 1 was good. played the demo, still not sure if I really want the game or not.
soul calibur 4? meh. single player isn't worth it, but it makes a fine game to play some short matches with a friend. then again, castle crashers does that I think.
devil may cry 4? yeah, it does have some very annoying problems. seriously, jumping puzzles where you jump around 1" from spikes that knock you down, where you have to kill a bunch of enemies before you can try the puzzle again. and the combat is pretty fun. unbelievable most of the time, but still fun.
I have avoided purchasing a couple games based on his reviews, but if I'm curious about a game, I try to find a demo or a friend who has it.
because really, I'm not the reviewer (be it yahtzee, or an ign or whatever reviewer) and if I'm interested, reviews are an idea of how it is-but try before you buy means I have some games that I enjoy that some reviewers think are horrible (bloodrayne 2 is a good example). their tastes don't perfectly match mine.

I agree.

That's all I can say since we're entirely on the same page. I just can't think of a satirical work of art more commonly known than A Modest Proposal. That and I just couldn't refuse the joke, I'm horrible when it comes to that.

It's Yatzee. He gets paid for bashing things. But when he recommends something I might take a look.

(btw, I see no poll here)
Yeah, I accidentally hit 'enter' instead of tab when I went to check the box for a poll. Sorry.
Just hit edit.
...really?

I don't pay much attention to reviews in general, and I don't really consider Yahtzee to be a reviewer anyway, since reviews are supposed to be neutral and that's one thing he's most definitely not.

I watch his "reviews" because they're funny, not because they influence my decision.
Why do reviewers need to be neutral?
He means they need to come in with an unbiased and open point of view. Yahtzee plays a game looking for things to hate.
Oh good, I thought he meant they had to explain the good and the bad equally.

No not at all. Yathzee is nothing but entertaintment to me. Everygame he hates are the games that are like top 10 greatest. His veiw on fighting games is one of the most iggnorant gaming stament ive heard. Plus his whole multiplayer means nothing crap annoys me.

Fighting games are ment to play with sombody!. He lies and throws out misinformation for games he does everything. Hes not a credible reveiwe. Hes fun to watch though. Nothing more nothing less.

We all accept he's focusing on the negatives for humorous effect.

Also, he's a critic and people are much more interested in hearing about a game's problems, as the awesome parts have already been hyped up in trailers during pre-realease.

Accepting this, anybody who based their games purchases on Yahtzee's opinion would own nothing but Portal, Psyconauts and Saints Row 2.

I was making a point rather than being literal :)
But yes, he did.

I think the guy is as annoying as fuck. The first time I saw one of his reviews, I was amused. The second time, it was the same schtick with same negative message. I don't even think his reviews are accurate. He's just caught up in this persona that makes him who he is, and that's it.

So, full emphatic no that any message vomited out by him influences me in any way.
WOW. So much anger.

You really, really need to calm down. No need to give yourself a heart attack over some random guy who creates sarcastic flash videos.

No anger at all. Its just a strong opinion of someone who I feel is a waste of time.
I don't agree and I think many people on this website don't agree with you either.

I find his videos to be highly entertaining.

No. Why would I let someone else tell me how to like a game?
I have a good reason. Most people don't have an endless bag of cash to buy every game. They don't have the time to try every game either.

That's why we rely on reviews from trusted sources and websites like metacritic.

It sucks to drop $50 or $60 on a game and find that you hate it.

He does like some games and he makes that really clear. But he clearly has some prejudices against certain game genres and completely ignoring multiplayer is a rather big issue. He usually hates clones too, even if they are really well done and well worth playing.

But here is the big thing.

Most game reviewers are supposed to be as objective as possible.

Clearly, that's not Yahtzee's goal. He's paid to be himself. If he hates a game just because he dislikes one little aspect, he says it (usually in a very sarcastic, snarky manner) and that's fine. That's his choice.

What I find far more unnerving, is whenever he reviews something even remotely popular, half the comments consist of variations of "Ha, stupid stupid fanboys going to rage" with some insults thrown in for good measure. Only those fanboys never show up, ever. Case and point CoDBlops. I mean, I know if you don't have an opinion, just hating something popular makes you all cool and edgy, but c'mon people...

I can't buy every game I want and yet still manage to pick out ones that I always like. If I wasted $50 to $60 on a game I didn't like than thats my bad. What if you played a game a reviewer liked and hated it? I don't rely on reviews for anything and still enjoy what I play.
