Halo is okay, but 2 things bother me:
1: It gets worshiped like it's the second coming or something and that it is the most beautiful game with an amazing storyline. Halo 1 had a decent storyline, if slightly unoriginal. Halo 2's storyline was pretty much the same as the first, with a few levels that are slightly unique. Halo 3 had pretty graphics, but the story and gameplay are exactly the same as Halo 2. Why should it be surprising that the flood show up halfway through? However, the saving grace in Halo 3 is forge mode. Forge mode is extremely fun, and there aren't many 360 games that support a content maker.
2: the unoriginality. The flood work exactly the same as headcrabs from half life, the elites are just like the vortigaunts but with armor, the opening scene in halo 1 is a direct rip off of the intro of quake 2, some of the levels also look like levels from quake 2, and finally, the one I find the worst, Master Chief. People always praise his original and amazing armor, but compare pictures of Doomguy from Doom and Master Chief. Similar right? well, Doom came out about 10 years before halo was made.
the series, in my oppinion, gets a 4.5 out of 10.

Yahtzee has my opinion of this. Its an average game coated in average with average sprinkles. The thing I dont like about halo isnt the game itself, its the people who say "halo is the best game ever!11!!" I mean its alright but not even close to my top 10. Maybe if these people played a actuall good game (like tf2, l4d2,[obvious valve fan]) But I do hate the single player. Wtf was even going on.

Hey, hey. I hated Halo before it was cool to hate Halo, so don't put me in the same category as those posers.

Quick, who would win in a fight...Doomguy or Master Chief? They both have all their weapons from their respective franchises. Max health, armor, etc.etc.
Oh, and the Gatling gun spider is chasing both of them.

Because people have different opinions. Not everyone is going to like a game.

I like it. But not everyone does and I'm fine with that.

Now can we please lock the thread? 9 times out of 10 Halo threads like this devolve into flame wars.
Do you find it strange that THREE PEOPLE IN A ROW posted on this thread with THE SAME AVATAR!?

I don't hate it, I've just never gotten into it. It just doesn't appeal to me.

On an unrelated note, it seems individuality is disappearing around here today.

The first Halo game was brilliant, it reignited the FPS flame, unfortunately leader every developer and their dog to make a generic war/sci-fi FPS, but nonetheless it was still quite the revolution at the time
Halo 2 also paved the way for incredible, frantic and addictive online multiplayer
So even if Halo isn't great today and many games have surpassed it in most gamers' eyes, the Halo series was still quite revolutionary at the time
But now I'd quite like it to die a quiet death please. It's done it's part, now it can go away

Also, in the last Halo hate thread I saw, CollectiveCynic came in and posted 10 million essays in response to all the people who made even the slightest negative comment toward Halo.

Really fucking hoping he doesn't show up here again, that was just irritating.

I actually believe that most people(at least on The Escapist) don't hate the game itself, but the stuff surrounding it(fanboys, community and the likes). Their actual opinion on the game is probably "meh" or "bad".

That's atleast how I see it.

You are forgetting the power of the mighty BFG! The gatling spider from Doom 1 was a pretty weak guy, only about 15 BFG shots or about 200 plasma hose-gun-thing shots...unless you are talking Doom 2...then yes, the non-pickable as a winner spider wins.

halo is amazing, i started playing at halo 3 and everyone i know loves the game.
the only people who hate it are the people who have no lives and spend every waking second playing CoD
I actually laughed when I read your comment "Halo is awesome and if you dont like it you have no life."
If you think that, and that everyone who doesn't like your overrated and generic game, than you probably lack a life. If I looked up fanboy in the dictionary, your picture would be staring me in the face.
Also, I don't like Call of Duty either.

Halo has started to become overrated, but to say one hates the games is a lie. The first two were great, Bungie just started to lose its way with the third. Most people who say they hate Halo have never played it because they own a Sony or Nintendo console and don't want to admit another console or developer has designed a game that they desire, thus they look for every flaw they can find in order to diminish the value of the game. This doesn't stop them from getting excited every time they hear a rumor its coming to their own console though and now that bungie and activison are working closely together all the Sony fanboys will be dieing to get their hands on whatever they produce.

PS: In regards to Halo being a generic game, just grow up already if that is your only arguement, many people would argue the original Half-Life is a generic game, doesn't change the fact it was great.

PSS: The worst thing about Halo is all the trollers who come and argue with you every time you mention the game as being anything other than horrible.

i mean why hate a game? it's a bit stupid.
It's a fucking game. It hasn't got feelings.

On the subject I'd have to say no, I HATE Halo. The first one was Ok but everything that followed was a generic, overated mess.

I don't HATE halo, but I dislike it, I find it a mediocre game, and I hate how popular it got with the stupid xbox fan base.

Lets see... the gatling spider would probably kill master chief, unless Doomguy BFG'd him first, and if it's a small area with no cover than Spidey would probably kill Doomguy too. However, if it's a big ma like E3M8, than Doomguy would probably kill the gatling gun spider with 3 close range BFG shots. Doomguy or the Spider Mastermind wins. Now, if a Cyberdemon gets involved, this is a much different scenario...

I hate Halo?

Why did you want me to say that?

Anyway... I actually kinda thought the first one was pretty fun, and I didn't own an XBox so I didn't get to play it until I got my 360. I tried the second one, but I just couldn't bring myself to finish it. I guess the multiplayer was supposed to be super awesome, but I suck at that kind of thing, so meh. I never did get around to playing the third one. So I wouldn't say I hate Halo, but I wouldn't say I like it much either.

Really, the way people around here bash it can be pretty stupid sometimes, but we're mostly elite level geeks. It's practically mandatory to despise popular things that are almost exactly the same as, but not quite as "hardcore" as, the things we love.
