Sometimes I see a user getting banned for a post and I think "Why did he get banned for that? I thought he was quite reasonable". But usually, the moderators here are superb.

Just "Hi"?

Low content posts are against the rules, seems to me like 2 letters is low content. :/

Context is important.

For example if that comment was made at 4:02 yet was posted on a video that was released at 4:00 and runs for 6 min, well that is against the rules and very stupid.
Context matters.

Not in a forum but in a small online browser games chat area, totally corrupt 'moderator' that lets friends do anything, i was actually muted for a week for trying to report a friend of them.

Freedom of speech seems to get thrown around alot. You probably do have freedom of speech. That does not entitle you to post whatever you want on a private domain. It's perfectly legitimate that you face the consequences when you stray from the rules/guidelines set by the owners of this site. Of course, everyone should be subject to ban/suspension if they break the rules. I haven't seen any punishment that wasn't warranted, so I voted no.

They jump the gun at times. If you're reported, it's automatically assumed that you did something wrong and they don't really look into it. Most times though, they are decent.

They use their power responsibly, I've never seen someone get suspended, or banned unfairly. Even if it doesn't seem to make sense why someone was punished, a quick glance at the rules will usually reveal what rule they broke.

isn't the internet about free speech? why is there censorship going on then?
because when there is total free speech the assholes take over and spoil all the fun. The case for my point? 4chan. If you look at 4chan you will see it is the home of free speech where only law governs moderation. The only time that mods get involved is when underage pictures are displayed. It just shows what would happen to any community if there were no strict mods.

I'm sure you've heard the Jessi Slaughter story? I fear that site because that could happen to just about anyone on the internet. That's why you've gotta love mods.
Just stirring things up trying to get folks thinking. It's like that on Ebaum's World too. Spammers and trolls have the run of the place now.

No, if you think these mods are bad, you obviously haven't seen some of the worse (and fascist) forums.

I have never seen anything that the Mods have done or said to convince me they are unfair. I haven't heard of anything stupid like random bans or suspensions.

On other forums the mods are either super strict or non-existent, resulting in the equivalent of a meeting for fans of cardboard or a monkeys on meth wrestling match respectively.

Here they're the right balance and they participate in the forums.

Well I share your attitude. Recently I've been thinking about how the internet is kind of it's own free nation and how it shouldn't be brought into politics and laws of the world. But there are benefits to it too. Damn, another site lost to the trolls.

Varies from person to person. Because the mods are people. Jerks will be jerks with or without mod responsibilities, and conversely the nice guys will be nice moderators, too.

The only thing that really bothers me is "mod sass" and "flaming" rule enforcement, because it can get ridiculous at times what some some folks interpret as a violation of either of those two rules. And in view of that, it especially bothers me when I see a mod baiting somebody by saying something that a non-mod probably couldn't get away with, as if daring a response that said person can moderate.

In short, I like the mods in general, but I like the ones who are a little more kind and polite about their job/position/life in general. And like anywhere else, some people can't play nice, no matter what their title says.

I haven't noticed them being unfair. Every time I've seen someone get mod wrath, it's been deserved.
Just writing first or such. They ban people on Yahtzee's page for no reason at all. read the latest and see why the first four people were banned. Absolutely no reason. I condone anything that suppresses freedom of speech.
Writing "first" is against the rules here (thank fuck).

Also, you can get banned if you comment before you have physically even seen the video. For example, if a 5 min duration vid goes up at exactly 17:00, and 3 guys post before 17:01, and "try" to discuss something they haven't seen, you know they're just posting to get the "first" post in the thread, even if they don't explicitly state so. It's basically trying to be clever and get around the "no firsts" rule. Thankfully the mods have a simple way of seeing that, every post is time-stamped.

They are not strict enough.
If we made it any stricter, we'd slowly get to the point where we feel that it's not in fact Alexander Macris running the show, but Kim Jon Ill instead.

EDIT: I meant to add that into my other post but hit "Post" on accident. >.<
Well actually I didn't word that quite right. I think the mods are strict with some people and not with others. I see a lot of incredibly asshole-ish posts go unmoderated even when reported, and I know things are missed sometimes but still, it seems to happen too often to me. On the other hand people get suspended or put on probation for some very insignificant things.
Ah, now I understand. I'm not too sure on the trigger-happy ban side, but I have seen immensely stupid and/or rude posts been ignored.

To phrase this any more strongly than "cobblers" would probably get me moderated. So I'll leave it at that. Having spoken to some of the mods whilst they've been sorting through the backlog of reports I can safely say that a guilty assumption is not their starting point. If it was you can rest assured there'd be way more forum probations at the very least.
