My girlfriend plays video games aswell, she has an Xbox 360 and loves fallout and gears, I have PS3 and a PC, so we can play pretty much any game we want to.

I believe the term for me is "forever a scone". Not sure why I'm a delicious pastry, but whatever. Memes never make sense.

We've been married for 10 years, we don't share consoles (key to a happy gaming marriage), we've played MMOs together for just over 7 years and are eagerly awaiting Dragon Age 2.
Truer words have ne'er been spoken. My husband and I, after moving in together, almost instantly set up our living room with two televisions and separate consoles. Split screen/shared screen gaming ruins marriages.

And it's nice that we can play two totally different games as well, side by side. Right now he's playing FFXIII and I'm bouncing between Persona 3 and Valkyria Chronicles on a whim. We're constantly muting one tv's volume and turning up the other whenever one of us has a cutscene.
It only gets better, now that our oldest son is of age (6 years old this week), we set up his Xbox account. We've got her Xbox up stairs, 2 PCs downstairs (we're still playing MMOs together FFXI, FFIXV and waiting for Old Republic). There's a PS3 in our living room and a Wii somewhere in the house.

Gaming has become a family activity, we're enjoying Marvel vs. Capcom tourneys after dinner and we even got a Kinect to see what that was all about...

My girlfriend just recently got into Disgaea. Since she's never played a tactical rpg before I have to help her out a lot. But she's a completionist and she loves the characters and the art style. So once she gets her head wrapped around the game mechanics I'm sure she'll take the game farther than I ever did. (There's tons of content after the main story I never touched)

She got me into pokemon and Persona and our roles were reversed with me having to ask her something every five minutes.

So, do any of you have, or have had, a gamer girlfriend? Share your experiences.

PS. We recently bought a bearded dragon lizard. We named him Laharl. :)
Ya I have a girlfriend into gaming, although its clear Im into it way more than her.

Online gamer that I've tended to be, the girls I've ended up dating through it generally turn out to treat our relationship the same way they treat everything else about the game - completely disposable. Dumped by one and blacklisted by both.

I love (read: hate, loathe, despise) the assumption that all of us are somehow able to get women to be attracted to us. I do not fall into that category. As few women have ever been attracted to me, none of them gamers, and I've never had a girlfriend at all, I think you can extrapolate easily what my response is to this. This is not an unusual fate for somebody who deals with obsolete computer systems as a hobby and who's read his way through a car mechanic's course manual for fun.

For the record, I'm largely of the opinion that women who game heavily are generally less interesting, more intolerant and more unpleasant people to be around than those that don't play games at all. Some of the female gamers that I've met have been downright nasty and foul individuals, unworthy of my respect or my attention. Of course, they probably think exactly the same about me, so it all balances out.
You're beginning to sound like a technophilic Ignatius J. Reilly.
Do you have a resounding history of failures, or are you basing these assumptions on the fact that women don't automatically flock to you?

OT: My partner has been gaming longer than I have. She loves old-school Nintendo, and she loved Bioshock and Portal when I gave them to her to play.

This thread again?

Hi. Gamer girlfriend, right here. **waves**

I've also had gamer girlfriends. I don't know why everyone thinks this is so rare these days - there are tons of female gamers now, more than... well, ever before. JRPGs recruit more female gamers than any other genre (which is why people should stop hating on them), particularly games like Persona 3 and 4 that have a strong focus on story. Also Xenosaga and Final Fantasy. And, the WRPG Dragon Age has done it's fair share as well. Great games all.

I commented on this thread's identical twin last month. Check the archives, please.

I know of a couple where the guy is a true gamer, and his girlfriend (when they started going out) didn't know much about games. Now they play classics the whole time, and occasionally easy time wasters together. Pretty good deal for them as they both major in chemical engineering and like video games.

I dated a gamer. It was a pretty bad relationship, she had mental issues and was the biggest weeaboo I've ever met, but she was a pretty decent gamer when she wasn't cutting herself or telling me to be "Brooding like sasuke." True story.

Eh. Didn't feel like it. Besides, wouldn't posting on a month dead thread be necro posting? And if you're so disgusted by the topic why did you come in here to tell your story?

Well sort of. Although apparently she's the only girl even slightly interested in games in my entire city, unfortunately, plus we're no longer together. Which is fun.

Sortof - my girlfriend does play games, but their casual games, so pseudo-gamer.

My girlfriend does play a little but not anywhere near as much as me. She was really into watching me play God of War 3, she really liked the story, she's into the whole Greek mythos. She absolutely loves Castlevania: SoTN so we play that pretty often. LBP2 she really likes too, what girl wouldn't though?

Basically so long as it's a game that isn't too complex and a story that isn't all gore and guns she'll be into it.

I would say that what guys really want is a girl who will watch _them_ play videogames and make appreciative noises at regular intervals.
This is very true. I regularly have to play badly so that guys will still feel manly and spend most of the time just watching others play and commenting on their perfect choice of combo.

Yawn.
lolwut? That doesn't make much sense...
Guys don't like women they feel threatened by. That's why for so much of our history women have been deeply socially and sexually repressed. All because of men who were afraid of losing their boners.

Adversely, girls don't like men they feel threatened by either. Which is why so many girls love having a gay guy friend. A guy they can feel completely comfortable with. It's just that women have never been in power enough to impose their insecurities on us like we have on them.
If there are guys who feel threatened by girls beating them at video games... then that's kind of sad.

I'd say that's kind of a generalization. There are LOTS of guys who feel totally comfortable with girls being better than them. I am a little offended by this.

My girlfriend of six years is a gamer. She plays a lot of RPGs, puzzle games, HOGS, fighters, adventure games and simulators. The only games we don't have in common are RTS's and FPS's (but she did love Portal).

It's great having a gamer girlfriend but you have to make sure you have an extra gaming computer because she will take it over. Plus it sucks when you have to buy two copies of a game due to DRM.

I said kinda because she dosn't really play video games on her own but she knows It's important to me and will play some multiplayer games with me if I ask. Other than that she'll only play Teteris on her own. Not that that's a bad thing mind you, tetris is damn fun.

I know how you feel. But this isn't a gamer guy specific generalization. It's a fact that, even though we've come a long way in our views of women and ourselves, many people still aren't there yet and that we have a long ugly history to get over. While this type of insecurity and sexism is foreign to you and me, it's very real for many others even of our age group.

Ummm... guess what I'm trying to get at is don't take it personally.
