Poll: Guys: would you give up your seat on the last lifeboat to women and children?

Children have bright futures ahead of them, and deserve to live. On the other hand, women wanted equality, and i'm an emotionless jackass. Screw ya'll, enjoy Fish fillets.

Exactly what this fine person said. I would gladly give my life to save my wife and/or child. For some random woman? Nah, you wanted equality, here it is. For some random child? That would be much harder to do, but I enjoy living, and I am more able to spawn more children than a child, so no.

It may sound cold, but survival of the fittest is not kind.

Uh. Yes, without a second thought.

Who they are has nothing to do with it, mind. Most people would deserve the seat a good deal more than I do, so it's kind of an obvious choice.

I am not a noble person. Most likely I would just keep my seat, but if I decide to give it to anyone it is the kid. I am not giving even a gram of chivalry to a woman. This whole "they are weaker so we need to be nice to them" thing is getting old, she can enjoy a nice, cold swim for all I care. And the children do deserve it, after all they are younger and have their whole lives ahead of them, but I am pretty damn greedy, so looks like they will be swimming with their mom.

I voted yes, but here's my real answer, I wouldn't be getting in the life boat ahead of anyone. I am assuming in this hypothetical scenario that there aren't enough lifeboats for all passengers and crew (ie. The Titanic) In this situation, I would give up my seat to someone else, whether it's a woman, child, man, or Martian is irrelevant to me.

It sounds rather naive when I say it out loud, seeing as in my own example, the Titanic, your life expectancy in the water is measured in minutes. But there it is. Call it good upbringing or an annoying sense of selflessness I can't seem to shake, when faced with immediate danger, my instinct, as I've found, is always to get everyone else out of harm's way, then worry about myself.

Not just women and children. I'd give it up for anyone that had a family or some such, since I am single. Then I would go try and find a nice piece of debris to hang off of!

id give my seat up to someone worthwhile, whether man, woman, or child. considering the number of horrible parents and future-less brats today, having or being a child is not nearly enough; a scientist, lead engineer, captain if his stupidity didnt cause the sinking...pretty much whoever has more to contribute to society than me.

that is of course dependent on my life remaining as pointless as it is at the moment; if i had a family back home or on the boat, that would be my 1st priority, but as it is im more than happy to go down with the ship if i have to.

I'd knockout that redheaded chick for being such a "damsel in distress" and give my seat to Leonardo DiCaprio because he is the fucking man

No, that's a holdover from when women and children were actually important to the survival of the species.

That hasn't been the case for a long, long time.

This depends on the context. Is this a lifeboat for a sinking ship at sea? Or a lifeboat for a doomed ship in space? I kind of like my odds of surviving in the former situation over the latter...
