Hell no. I'm Not going to give up my chance to live just because I'm a male. If they want that spot they can have after they push my dead corpse overboard.

I don't like children and women are supposed to have the same rights as men anyway. If someone else on the lifeboat wants to kill themselves to help an absolute stranger, then good for them for having a higher moral standpoint.

BTW, that person that gives up their spot should write me a letter after it's all said and done about how drowning to death in a mass watery grave went over.

You people are terrible.

Of course I would give up my seat for a woman or child.

I can swim.
But can you swim for hours in arctic waters?

I would put some kids on my lap to ensure space if necessary. If there was no other option, I would let them get in and then hang onto the side of the boat. What I wouldn't do is abandon the boat entirely on the pretense of heroism. Pragmatism comes first.

Last week was the 99th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. According to passenger logs, 74% of women and 52% of children on board survived, but only 7% of the men did. The Titanic Memorial in Washington D.C. commends the men "Who gave their lives nobly to save women and children."
What happens if you'd give it up to save other men?
Well, we all clearly know that would make you a homosexual.

pffft. I'm only 21 and I have lots of living to do still. Sorry everyone else but in the words of a favorite video game character of mine. "If its my ass or yours, you better believe my ass will be out the door first baby."

Question 1: Do you still have a big dream you want to accomplish?

Question 2: Is that dream realistic?

If you answered no to either of these questions, give up your seat to the young ones.

While I'm a big guy, and I'd probably take up the space of 2 women or 3 or 4 kids, tough.

I only say that because it's a lifeboat situation, and I have a terrible phobia of drowning, to the point where I'd probably empty that fucking thing by force if they tried to make me leave.

Anything life threatening not involving expanses of water, hand me a gun and let me take myself out so others can live tho.

Yes, unconditionally. People say chivalry is dead and mostly it is but fuck it as far as I'm concerned I have my own code of chivalry and I will stick to it.

Not without reason do I call my motorbike my iron steed occasionally (mostly for fun) and suiting up to go on a run is like suiting up to ride into battle, also the whole wave to other bikers and help people at accidents biker culture that all real bikers ascribe to.

Bikers should be regarded as knights of the road in my opinion, but we have to earn it. Something that seems to get lost under waves of weekend warriors.

Sorry that kinda turned into a rant about biker culture in general...

If I can get to the boat before them, I'm taking the seat. In the words of the late George Carlin, fuck the children.

Now, if I had to stay behind to save my OWN wife and children, then I probably would.

Now the Titanic sunk in 1912, when chivalry was celebrated and women were still viewed as second-class citizens who had to protected by men. I wonder, if there was a major maritime disaster today would the results be the same? Are grown men still as disposable in 2011?

** [I know technology and maritime rescue is dramatically different today, but assume for argument's sake in this hypothetical there would be a good chance you would die if you stayed on the sinking ship]

Or, change it to or. Also, make it singular. Woman/child. I only get one seat afterall; unless I'm American in which case I might get two (don't burn me, recent thread has given stereotypes life). Yes, I'm also a pedantic fuckwit.

OT: No.
!Argh!

OT: Woman, definitely no. Child; I'd feel bad about saying no, but I'd still say no.

They want equality, they give up double standard. The children can go, but the women can sink with me.
