No while microsoft has convinced me not to buy their console, Sony has yet to give me a reason to buy theirs. Add the fact Wii might possible come up with something...maybe

I don't think anyone has really "won" here and sony hasn't even revealed their cards yet, they might have something similar as microsoft in place.

Just wait until after Sony's conference. They could still drop the ball. They do have a massive head start though. Let's just hope they use it.

Hard for Sony to win when we've yet to find out anything aobut the damn thing beyond that it has a new button on the controller and the ability to post videos to YouTube that will be hit with a copyright takedown notice before you can say 'Whose bloody idea was this?'.

Here's how the next wave of consoles looks to me:

Sony: Buy our mystery box!

Microsoft: Buy our machine that will stare at you and might decide not to let you play if you haven't shaved or are wearing a hat and it mistakes you for someone else. Also we are including features that a) new TVs already have, and b) do not relate to playing games.

Nintendo: Yes, the controller has a dodgy battery life and is the size of a brick, yes the games lineup is kind of small right now, but at this point, we're the one-legged man in a race against a parapalegic and someone who hasn't showed up yet and may, in fact, be dead.

In short, it looks like a complete mess, and I'm going to sit back and watch the fustercluck unfold. I'm not sure there's going to be a winner here, but I'm guessing we'll see more than one loser.

I have to say it's pretty disheartening to see so many people making this about a fight between Microsoft and Sony. When Microsoft showed off the Xbox One everyone just lumped with Sony, even though Sony has made some terrible decisions too. While all this debate between the two consoles rages about how people wish they'd get their act together, Nintendo is quietly sitting in the corner offering the most console gaming experience out of the 3, with backwards support, indi games, no DRM, free internet, TV functionality that doesn't obscure the gaming experience, less motion controls, cheapest price, and semi-unattached gaming experiences. Nintendo is basically offering everything gamers want out of a console but no one is looking at them.

This isn't to say that nintendo is the best choice or is perfect or anything of the sort... but out of the 3 gaming consoles out there I can't help but think that the Wii U should be getting more credit than it is.
That's thing, if pricing goes the way it does I'm almost getting the feeling we're just going to have another Wii-360-PS3 scenario. Logically I can't see the PS4 getting below $400, but it is possible it'll hit the same level as the XBone, depending. Nintendo's Direct is the one I'm excited for due to the fact that they'll have a LOT of stuff gamers have been craving like finally getting an update on the new SSB, 3D Mario, and Mario Kart. This fall might very well go to Nintendo.

I think you'll find the correct answer is "None of the above".

Apple (or possibly google) has already won this console war, while the other players were still jacking off in bed.

No they havent even had their conference yet but Microsoft have certainly made sure they are not on my list of consoles to buy and for the last few gens I have bought every console released (well main ones anyway).

If Sony fuck up the PS4 near to or even more than the Xbox One then they will both be lost to me. I can just as easily tell Sony to fuck off as Microsoft (and I will do). As for whether the PS4 will sell more than the Xbox One in the long run I have no idea atm I hope the Xbone crashes and burns and if the PS4 follows similar practices it does the same.

Sony doesn't have a console for this generation...

Seriously, we don't really know that there IS a PS4. All we do know is they have a controller and some Colonial Marines style "vertical slice" footage of games that may or may not run on the PS4 if it's ever built. I think a better question is "has Sony thrown in the towel?".

Sadly no, people will just burn out on eggs box hatred and then still go buy it like spineless dummies... that is just level of the willpower your average gamer posses.
I have to say that as much as I agree with that statement, having a price point of $499.99 kinda puts the 'average' gamer out of the market.

If Sony prices the PS4 at $450 or lower, they'll have the same type of lead the 360 had over the PS3. Even if they were ready to announce a $500 price tag, it would be in their best interest to lower that now, even with the loss of money. It'll be a repeat of the PSX price announcement.

If they don't have a lower price than the XB1, than it could be anyone's game.

That being said, if they match the XB1's price, and Nintendo shows off and gives release dates to their heavy hitters, we could see the Wii-U coming out on top by a healthy margin.

Where's the vote for "hold on, Sony could still fuck this up."

Because I don't think Microsoft will pull it out, but I believe in the power of Sony to screw up just as bad.

Sony can still screw it all up, I have full faith in them. Or Nintendo come up from behind, or mobile gaming pick up, or so on. But if the question is just between Sony beating Microsoft this generation... That is a resounding hell yes. I haven't kept up with E3 news at all, beyond the price announcement... And at $499 I wouldn't buy any console, but especially not the Xbox One. I truly have trouble understanding or imagining anyone who would want it at that price.

Edit: okay, just saw some of the announced games... And my god. If I wasn't convinced that the Xbox One had nothing for me before, I surely am now. There was literally not a single exclusive that I felt genuinely interested about, and all the games that did look good, like MGS5 and Witcher 3 are multi-platform anyway.

i know you politely told me to fuck off but this new console generation should finally make ppl realize that for years there has existed a system capable of playing games/movies/T.V, being a social media hub and doing work
it's called a PC

apart from that nintendo might grow a brain start releasing some actually games and be more than my 2 years old nephew (or 50 year old aunt's) console of choice

Right now Nintendo is looking the most interesting to me, sure some pretty looking gems are in Sony's and M'crosoft's hands, but does the Xbone or the PS4 have Animal Crossing: New Leaf? I think not!

EA and ubisoft just announced some really good cross platform games. including the division?omg what was that!!?
Unless PS4 have some amazing AAA exclusives (other then killzone , infamous) they definitely have not outright 'won'.
Don't forget about the stubborness of fan boys...the PS4 needs to be 2x better to get them to doubt allegiances.

They've yet to clarify their policy on DRM or address any of the rumours about second-hand sales beyond "We're leaving it up to publishers". They've yet to announce price. There are still plenty of ways Sony could fuck this up.
Very true, but all they have to do is confirm this stuff isn't true and release at a lower price point and they've got it made.

The Xbox One is the best PR Sony and Nintendo have ever had. Let's hope those two don't fuck it up.

Seriously though £429?! Fuck that!
There is so much truth in this statement. As I have said to some coworkers: "You know, the more I hear about the XBox One, the more excited I get for the PS4."

So far, the XBOne has been Sony's best friend. If Sony avoids the same pitfalls, has a lower price, and can get it out at the same time or earlier, they will have a VERY strong foothold.

That's the issue. I'm one of those cynical people who don't think Sony will make that announcement. I think it's pretty clearly looking like there's going to be some form of publisher-led DRM with games on PS4. There's no way publishers would push Microsoft for such a restrictive system while not expecting the same from Sony. Their previous comments have suggested DRM from publishers. I'm expecting a confirmation of that sometime soon, not a refutation.
Here's something I was thinking about today. Sony has said there will be no Online Requirement, last I heard. If there is no online requirement, they can't enforce DRM or Used Game Fees. Therefore, I don't think that's too much of a worry. I could be wrong on all counts, but I feel some small glimmer of hope in that.

Thank you Scolipede,

I find it hysterical that after a conference where Microsoft focused on games, people say they still suck. I agree that the Xbox One is horrid as a console, but the games they showed are pretty kickass. Especially Titanfall.
I thinking that people are thinking the cons of the console outweigh the pros of the games. As a horrid example would you play a game that is perfect but when you died in the game you died in real life? the games might be fun but the console it self will proabably such the life out of the games

We know pretty much nothing about PS4, so it's obviously impossible to call. That said, were this an actual foot race, Microsoft would be the guy who showed up drunk, heavily drugged, with a twisted ankle and no pants. Sony could, theoretically, have similar problems when it takes the starting position, but I'm thinking that they're smart enough to learn from Microsoft's abysmal start (which might be why we haven't heard anything yet, they've played their cards close to the chest, if you'll pardon the analogy change, so they can change things last minute and look much better for it).

I'm hoping they do well, at any rate. I like the playstation series of consoles FAR more than the Xboxes. Nintendo screwed up with their ridiculous controler on the Wii U, but at least they didn't do nearly as bad as Microsoft.

Captcha: that's enough

Fine, fine, I'll end there.
