Here's something I was thinking about today. Sony has said there will be no Online Requirement, last I heard. If there is no online requirement, they can't enforce DRM or Used Game Fees. Therefore, I don't think that's too much of a worry. I could be wrong on all counts, but I feel some small glimmer of hope in that.
That's my thought... But maybe the game will require an internet connection to load up?

That would still be an Online Requirement. Which, if what Sony said before is accurate, they don't have. And honestly, that would be WORSE than the XBOne system.

Nintendo is still on the board, if not for the Wii U then surely for the 3ds. That thing is great, Animal Crossing is turning out decent too.

And while I love Sony, I'm not buying their console. Sure I hope they win, but I'm not participating in Next Gen, so I won't be buying anything. Plus just because a new console is coming out doesn't mean the PS3 will die. It will still get new games.

My bias towards M$ is great, so I'll be laughing at their demise, my Sony hasn't won yet. I had a dream I saw the PS4 and all my brain came up with was two fat PS2's welded together. We gotta see the console.

Well firstly, Sony patented a hardware mechanic a while ago that acts as DRM without needing an online connection. It essentially 'marks' any disc after it it first played. If they were to go down the route of DRM, they've already got a patent that would let them do so without ever needing an online connection.
They already clarified that though. It was for blu-ray players. For movies, they said it wouldn't be for Playstation.

If they were to go down the route of DRM, they've already got a patent that would let them do so without ever needing an online connection.

Secondly, I think it's foolish to assume the PS4 will never need to go online. Games will need patches. Software will need updating. I don't think there are many players out there who will never connect their PS4 to the internet, and Sony knows that.

Thirdly, there is nothing to say that Sony aren't correct in saying the PS4 doesn't require an online connection. Because Sony could then simply argue that the PS4 doesn't need to play used games to function. They could very well argue that the console is perfectly able to play brand new games without ever needing to connect to the internet. If you want to play used games, however, that would be an extra service which would require an internet connection.

Never forget, Sony were one of the first console publishers to jump on the whole online pass thing, and they've already said that DRM is going to be up to the publisher. Whatever news comes out of tonight's conference, I'll be very surprised if there isn't some ugly announcements in the near future about publishers' plans for used games on the PS4.
Why must you try to crush my small ray of hope? What did it ever do to you?

Seriously, I really hope Sony cancels any such plans to do so, if they have them. The sheer amount of backlash that Microsoft has received should give them some pause for thought. I would hope. Like I said, I could be wrong on all counts, but I really hope this is something that they don't opt for. Because I'm not sure what I'll do at that point. Buy a Wii U? Create a top notch gaming PC?

They pulled back from the edge, but are still pretty damn close. Sony, however, could easily run off said edge into the abyss if they don't realize that the xbone stopped for a reason. Nintendo is still being Nintendo, which is both good and bad for the same reason it has since it's inception.

Killer Instinct looks sub-par, Sony will have Planet side two and CD Universe online and people are excited for it's line up, Will watching the games all i can here is But i have a PC then start falling asleep and hearing (TV TV TV TV Sport TV MOCAP DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) the killer apps are just not hitting hard enough for Xbox One and it will be the most expansive system and the last to launch. Add to that Wii U will still have a big mark on the casual and family crowd and the fate of the Xbox looks very grim.

Ok, I know the Xbox One is flawed, but with the amount of people on here mindlessly attacking it I have a hard time sympathising with Sony unless they give the absolute perfect conference, people are just blindly following them (literally)

It seems to me like everyone is mad at Microsoft when they've been more open with information than Sony, Yes, it may have been contradictory at first, but it smoothed out a bit since then. Sony has not been very forthcoming with official information, yet somehow Microsoft gets ripped for being more honest about their machine.

Sony could have easily won me over with the PS4 with how outraged I was in the very beginning about the Xbox One. They failed to, and I think they will fail to with many more gamers. If the price is $50-$100 less, Microsoft will have a hard time keeping up, and if it's more than $100, Sony just might be able to really kick butt, even if it's not overly impressive, because at least it will be cheaper and less intrusive.

Anyway, it's way too early to tell. A thousand different things could happen to change the scope of the console wars and I'm certainly not going to place any bets any time soon.

Edit: Just heard it's $400. Plus to Sony. It's charging for online gaming, though. Minus to Sony, since that was a major selling point with the PS3 for many. No DRM, plus to Sony. Still don't think it's the nail in the coffin. Wii U is significantly cheaper with free online and still not likely to shine.

So, the PS4 will cost $100 less, won't limit used game sales/trades and won't require an online connection... yep, they completely OBLITERATED Microsoft. Did you hear the applause they got from just stating "Hey, we're not out to fuck you over"? It shows how completely unimpressed the audience there were with Microsoft's decisions.

As far as the big boys go, PS4 has just won - no question. We've yet to see what Nintendo has though, so nothing can be called just yet.

To be fair, we'd be getting charged for online using Microsofts new console as well and have absolutely no say in the matter since the console requires an online connection. While the PS4 is charging for online play it doesn't require the always online connection, and if the $5 a month is going towards better voice chat and multiplayer features then it's worth it.

In Sony's defense, That's with PS Plus. So, if they go with what they have been, Playstation Plus is a good deal even with the free online. You get all sorts of free and reduced price things with it. So, if they keep that up, it's $5 a month for online play and free/reduced price stuff. I can't really be mad about that.

And, I think I can answer the Poll on this, now...

Very true. Almost everything Sony did was a giant fuck you to Microsoft to show that they are much better. Microsoft may not be creamed, but they have a lot of work to do if they want to tie.

The entire Xbox team must be rolling around on the floor in pain right now.

Okay after the fact I'm indeed confident to give my vote to:

[x] Yep, they've got it all.

In fact I'm now certain that the PS4 will be my choice of console.
I'm not happy that Sony seems to adapt the XBL system in which you will have to pay for online multiplayer even if it just 5? per month, but that is a small downside compared to the DRM and Kinnect issues Microsoft is facing, not to mention that the PS4 is 100? cheaper.

So yea I think Sony will be able to sell 100+ million consoles in about 6 years crushing the competition of Nintendo and Microsoft.

After seeing this:

I say yes. It's been a long time since a game company make me laugh like that did over so little. I still voted the Nintendo option, but Sony is taking customers seriously, which is something MS has forgotten about.

I'm going to make a guess they've been doing that since late May... =)
