Funny you should ask, I just shipped it to the repair center today for the third time in as many years. The first two times it had the RROD, but this time...

First of all it kept freezing up while playing Oblivion - not that uncommon for playing Oblivion if I'm remembering my early experience with that game correctly. I didn't think anything of it, but after one recent it started giving me one flashing red light and the E74 message. I filled out the repair request online and had a box shipped to me. In the meantime I tried the Xbox a few more times. It alternated between the E74, E71, and E79 errors and occasionally either froze up during the startup or had one flashing red light with no error message at all.

Then the other day it started giving only the RROD. So I've pretty much had almost all of the errors the 360 can have. I called support to update them on that and even the rep was surprised with the number of things going wrong.

Here's hoping that instead of repairing the console I have now they just send me a brand new console. Preferably one with an HDMI port and a chipset that doesn't turn into molten slag the moment it gets above room temperature.
No problem for me, until i got Oblivion, it seems to freeze alot.
Seems its more the game , than the machine...
other than that really great game and really great console.

( and i have it in a well ventilated place, that might explain alot.)

A guy i know bought a 360 and it burned a big ring into his disk so he brought it back and bought a ps3 instead.

Im on my original one, it has had a rrod, but i switched it off and on at the plug while it was on which was the reason for the rrod, switching it off/on again got rid of it, and its fell off of a high table and smashed the unfortunate plate it landed on and still works perfectly

It is the game all right, Oblivion is notorious for freezing.

However, it is also a game that puts huge stress on the machine as the world is constantly loading in new textures and graphics.

So make sure when playing Oblivion or Fallout 3 to take a break ever couple of hours to let it cool down! Installing to the hard drive helps too.

I had one RROD after 2 and a half years of no problems. It's 8 months later and I've had no further problems.

I got the RROD about a year after I bought my xbox, I got it back, it's been about 4-5 months and now the disc drive is starting to act slow. I'm hoping it's just a temporary glitch (it plays fine, but I have to hit the button a few times) but I think next gen I'm going with the PS3. It should be cheap enough to afford by then.

Nope, Still using mine since 2005. The only issue it has is that the fan sometimes wont turn off after I press the power button.
Weird I've had mine since Christmas '08 and it does the same thing. Otherwise it runs flawlessly save the few times it's crashed running Fallout 3 but I blame Fallout 3 for that.

I had to wait 3 weeks to get a repair booked because the Xbox support site would not recognise my postcode and therefore I was not able to book a repair.
The Xbox support staff refused to register my unit even though I explained why I was not able to register it myself.

I had a repair booked a few weeks ago but I have not sent it in or played it since.
I will book another repair this week because I want to have it ready fro FIFA and PES.
I talked to someone called John green at Xbox support and he told me a load of lies, if anyone has a complaints address for Xbox support - please tell me know.

I got my xbox 360 elite on release day and haven't had any problems with RROD, EVER!
However, I broke my disk tray when i dropped it. :-(

i think cause of what type of forum this is, we're actually beating the spread of the article, tho i think it's cause we're mostly gamers here and play it more

either way it's looking like the article is correct

I have my original x box 360 pro for about 2 years now no problems. I read somewhere that if you plug it directly into the wall and not a surge protector you won't get the RROD. thats what I've been doing.

Sooo... Approximately 2/3rds of all Xbox owners in the poll had experienced one or more RRODs. Makes me want to consider a PS3 for my next console, to be honest, and I was leaning towards the Xbox initially given the good online integration.

My fifth 360 died this past weekend. And it was quickly replaced on Monday. I've had the RRoD twice, and non related deaths three times.

Here's hoping number 6 will be one of those mythical consoles that actually last for more than 12 months.

My 360 got an E74 error with the bottom right segment lit red. A week later I go a replacement xbox after following the speedy, but initially unhelpful, support line.
