my original xbox failed 2 years ago after about 3 years, the cd drive gave out. It was around that time that my ps2 started only playing medal of honor frontline after owning it for about 5 years, and my dreamcast died after almost 8 years. Sega made systems well.

Wow 79% of people are on their first Xbox. I applaud them because mine died after the first week, then again after two months making the total times I went back to Circuit City about that darn thing 4 times (The first three happened in the first week I had it)

It crashed once for no reason and has done a lot of struggling recently despite the fact I never play it.

If I used it more than once a month it probably would have died by now.

MY first 360 died from RRoD about 4 months into its life. Then the newer one died from another error later. Thus I switched to the more hardware stable PS3 about 2 weeks ago.

RROD twice. I don't care, it's covered.

EDIT: Actually it was 3 times. 3 RRODs on 2 consoles. Wasted my vote then.

Yeah, mine just started crashing with no rings at all, lucky for me it was still under it's year warranty!

ALWAYS keep the receipt!

RROD once, and I had the graphics chip melt. I'm waiting on repairs from Microsoft right now actually, number three step right up.

Let's see, I bought my first 360 last November (yeah, I know, a little slow) and it was stolen from from me sometime between December and February while I was on an extended business trip. I finally bought another one at the end of June, and that gave me that beautiful red ring of death about two hours ago. Lucky me.

Edit: Wow, that's what happens when I leave for a few days. I forget to actually read the original posts and click the links and end up with links that were already linked. Duh me.

I think this happend to my original xBox. Twice. I just know it started smoking and the light around the power button turned orange. Sometimes I wonder how long brand loyalty can last...

umm less than that, not sure how you got 79%, unless you're mistaking the (79) as the percentage, that's the amount of people that have picked that

tho right now it looks like the 54% stat is holding up, which is really scary if it is true. i do know the stats are a bit off probly but still it's holding. just have to take out the people who don't have one

Never RRoD-ed. E74 twice, the others 5 times were just minor hardware faults.

Despite it's high rate of failure, I still play it and enjoy it a damn sight more than I enjoy my PS3 or my Wii (when I had it).

One E74 fault for me. Went out and got a cheapo arcade 360 and slapped my original hard drive into it, so it wasn't a big deal.

Sooo... Approximately 2/3rds of all Xbox owners in the poll had experienced one or more RRODs. Makes me want to consider a PS3 for my next console, to be honest, and I was leaning towards the Xbox initially given the good online integration.
I think the key phrase is "in the poll". I wasn't going to bother but I thought "why not" and did the poll. Two and a half years without a problem for my 360. I've used it, my kids have used it and I've taken it to school and let the students in the Game Club I advice (I teach high school) abuse it pretty much every week for the last two school years. I suspect most people who haven't had any problems haven't bothered with the poll. I only did the poll out of idle curiosity and replied to the thread because my own experience was so different to the typical poster... no telling whether I've been lucky or typical of course.

Yes, 2 times where it wouldn't want to play games just DVD's. Then once where it was running so slow, one loading time was 15 minutes, i timed it. But i sent it in and it was all fixed.
