Well there is that Italian/black stereotype, right? That still exists, doesn't it? Then again, I don't know if there's any truth to it. I'd think any polls on the subject would be biased ( and weird.) Anyway, while that doesn't immediately make you better at sexing people up, I'd imagine it could help.

Back on topic: I've no problem with interracial marriages.

In my (perhaps naive) mind, interracial marriage is one of those things that everyone except a few racist morons have decided is perfectly good. Quite clearly this isn't the case in some parts of the USA.

I'll admit I have a little uncomfortable twinge in the back of my mind when I see interracial couples, but I recognize that it's completely illogical (and hypocritical, being white as the driven snow and totally digging Asian chicks myself) and I refuse to permit that stupid primal remnant to be anyone else's problem. If I ignore it long enough, maybe it'll go away.

On every rational level (and most of my irrational ones excluding wherever that twinge comes from) I completely support interracial marriage. Really, we ought to have outgrown the need for such terms as "interracial" by now. Aside from medical purposes, racial distinctions (not referring to reasonable levels of cultural pride) cause more trouble than they're worth.

Alright maybe it wasn't. I was verbally told the amount and up until now I've never actually looked up the count. Its been updated since I posted this, right now its at 1,385. So I would guess you misplaced a decimal point. Still better effort than what I would expect on a forum.

I believe that it is easier to understand when someone explains it that way.
As far as my knowledge of the word 'different' is concerned, it does not insinuate that one thing is inferior to another, which is what I believe drives many racist and other discriminatory thoughts.

I still disagree with it but I can also understand it.

If people want to think of different races as different species, I think it is flawed thinking when paired with my own personal opinion, but as long as they are not acting on it in a dangerous manner, I see no reason to make them change their beliefs.

I do think it would be different if her mother was flat out saying, "No, they shouldn't mix because blacks or whites or Asians or what-have-you are better than B."

It's less interracial and more cross-cultural. Don't underestimate how different cultures can be. Our values, our frames of reference, etc are different. But as long as you can work through them, then it's just like any other marriage.
